  1. No, I have not but I will look into that.
  2. Two Mexican detectives were investigating the murder of Juan Gonzalez. "How was he killed?" asked one detective. "With a golf gun," the other detective replied "A golf gun?! What is a golf gun?" "I don't know. But it sure made a hole in Juan.
  3. Well, I gotta tell you, I've just about had it with SP2 My latest try was to make a slipstreamed CD using my XP Pro CD and my SP2 CD. My XP pro has SP1 already in it. I used a program called Autostream to make the slipstreamed .iso and then burned it out to a CD with Deep burner. I then went to install it on a clean, formatted (ntfs) 80 gig HD that I put in the machine all by itself (set as Master) and did a clean install. All went fine until the computer had to restart and it hung up on the black "Windows XP Pro" screen. It just hung up for about 5 minutes. I shut it off and restarted it
  4. Ugly Bus To Paradise A bus carrying ugly people crashes into an on coming truck, and everyone inside dies. They then get to meet their maker, and because of the grief they have experienced, he decides to grant them one wish each - before they enter Paradise. They're all lined up, and God asks the first one what the wish is. "I want to be gorgeous," and so God snaps His fingers, and it is done. The second one in line hears this and says "I want to be gorgeous too." Another snap of His fingers and the wish is granted. This goes on for a while with each one asking to be gorgeous - but when God is
  5. The way my sweetie's hair smells right after a shower and then a blow dry..........Ooooooooooo I just love it!!!!
  6. Well, for what it's worth, In MY area, I have cable service from Charter and they are fast, the service has been reasonably good, and the cost is $29.95/month
  7. Chappy, I'm going to try this to see if I can FINALLY get SP2 onto my computer. You can see my problems in other posts in this forum. I've got a spare HD to fiddle around with and if I can get it to work, I'll transfer all my stuff to the 'new' drive and FINALLY be up to date. I'll let y'all know how it goes. Thanks.............jim
  8. Well, I tried that and I couldn't do it thru the security console because the machine would lock up and I couldn't get to the windows update page because the computer would loop back to boot again every time I tried that! Just for the record, I have a legal copy of WinXP. No copies or cracks going on here. I wouldn't give a rip about it except I heard that there will soon be a SP3 and I probably couldn't upgrade to that without SP2 being installed. Under SP1, everything works just fine.
  9. Actually, No I wasn't but as the only user, I have administrator privilages.
  10. I have had it with SP2. I have tried 4 times to install it and get it working and I can't do it!!! Here are the specs: AMD 2500+ Barton (1.8Ghz) 512 RAM Nvidea GeForce 5200 XP Pro SP1 EVERY time I install the SP2 (on CD from MS) I get the pop up that says "your Automatic Windows Update is not turned on" Well, of course it's not. It wants to automatically download SP2. If I click on the "balloon" like it wants, it tries to open the "Security Console" and then my computer hangs. Completely unresponsive. I can't open the console from control panel, either. What happens is the window tries
  11. "What also bugs me is I just can't seem to remember things anymore..." You know, they have a name for that now. It's called 'CRS disease' ( Can't remember S**T) Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
  12. OOOhhhhhhh Sweet revenge, that. Yeah, tell her your real sorry and you'll fix it back to the way it was before. Then do it and get the heck away from her!!!! Kinda snotty but hey, she started it!
  13. I had that problem too and the only thing that FINALLY fixed it was a reformat and reinstall of WindowsXP Since you can get it running, I would suggest that you back up all your inportant stuff so you won't lose it if you do have to reinstall. I don't have a clue as to what was causing the problem, I only know how I managed to fix it.
  14. the subscripton link on their web site is one year, with all the special issues, for $20 Many times, the little postcards that get inserted in their magazines offer substantial discounts off their regular rate. I would suggest looking thru an issue and see if there is a card in there that might get you a year for like $10 or two years for $20
  15. The jumpers were probably set wrong. The hard drive that came with your new computer should be set as "master" and you need to set the jumper on the one from your old computer to "slave". Look by the jumpers--there should be a marking to tell you where to put the jumper. The other thing is to make sure that the ribbon cable plug on the END of the cable is plugged into the HD that came with the computer and the old HD is plugged into the middle of the cable. That SHOULD get it running and the old HD should then show up as drive D:
  16. Older OS's didn't recognize large HD's and therefore, the need to partition. YOur couputer sees each partition as a seperate "drive" and that's why you have a C and a D drive even though you only have one hard drive. If you are running Linux, it's helpful to have a small partition that is formatted FAT32 so that you can transfer files between Linux and Windows.

    Homecoming

Hey, you know, you could ask your Dad to help you tie that tie. Most fathers feel kind of left out of their teen's life. I doubt that he would turn you down for help. Have a GREAT time at the dance.

  19. Hey Shanenin...........no problem I didn't take it personally. I have ALWAYS had my computers set to show hidden files. It was just that I noticed these folders and wondered what they were all about. I kind of figured that they from Windows update. It has been a couple of months since I installed any updates so I THINK I could safely delete them. I may just dump them to a CD to be safe, first. Thanks for the input!! jim
  20. IF the printer icon shows in the task bar, double click it and then check the menus and make sure that "pause printing" isn't checked. That happens to us at work sometimes and then print jobs just stack up. Don't know if that's your problem, but it's worth a quick look!
  21. That is exactly what I thought too. I just wanted confirmation! Thanks...........Jim
  22. I keep hidden files visible. I want to see what's there. I'm just trying to clean up un-needed files.
  23. In my C:\Windows directory, I have a BUNCH of files that look like this one: $NtUninatallKB817778$ I assume that these are some kind of uninatall information. I'm wondering if I can safely delete these? What do y'all think? Thanks.....Jim
