You're running Win 98, right? One thing you can do when the computer is booting is get rid of that Win98 log on screen and watch what's being loaded. You can do this by just hitting the Esc key when you see the Win98 screen. Then you see what's going on in the background. Sometimes programs get errors when they load and it might show up here. Just a random thought but it might be worth a look for a few bootups. Hope this helps. See ya............. Jim

One area which I REALLY dissagree with M$ is this: I bought XP Pro--no pirating here. I own more than one computer------I SHOULD be able to install it on ALL my boxes without any penalty or additional fees.

Hi Shanenin MOST central air units are run off of 220 volt AC. If that's the case, you sure don't want to be hooking two of the wires to the same terminal in the box. I'm no electrician but I know better than to try to rig up something like that. That green wire is supposed to be the GROUND connection and the white is the Nutral. I don't think you should combine them. Good luck........Jim

Actually, what I'd like to do is set it up so there is about 20Gbs available for the Linux install and leave the other 60 Gbs abailavle to use with Windows XP. So, if I do what you suggest, I should allocate 20GB for Linux and leave the rest alone? It's already formatted to NTFS right now.

I have a second drive in my computer that I have used for Linux before. It is 80 Gigs and I would like to use this drive to store back-up information from my C: drive (which is Windows XP pro). I would also like to have Linux on that drive. Is there a way to partition that drive so I can install Linux on one part of that drive and still have the other part of it available to Windows XP to use for backing up my data? And if so, how do I go about doing it---is this something I have to do before I install Linux or is it something that I do AS I'm installing Linux? Thanks..............Jim

In XP, go to control panel and open administrative tools In there, open computer management and then click on disk management from the choices on the left side of the screen. Your computer will recognize that there is a drive and partition there and it will show it as healthy. Because it is of a different file system than windows, you will not be able to read it or do anything with it in windows but the computer knows it's there.

I edited the /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh file and inserted the line HWCLOCKACCESS=no That did the trick!

Whenever I boot into Linux, (Ubuntu 5.04) and then go back into Window$, I noticed that my system clock is ahead by 5 hours. I was wondering if there is some setting that I need to change in Ubuntu so that the clock doesn't change when I log off. This is not a BIG deal, really, but there must be some way to fix this easily. Anybody got any ideas for me?? Jim
