The Ranting Game

Recommended Posts

Bozodog, we've done that!!  My only hope is that when she is ready, she dumps him, don't want to deal with some jerkguy breaking my baby's heart!!  Fortunately, as often as she gets mad at him (late last night, matter of fact!)  I have a feeling her heart won't get broken.  Ahhh, it's a waiting game, and hopefully there isn't a marriage before the game ends!

How old is she? I am always interested in hearing what works, I have a 12 year old. I don't have a lot of personal experience with raising girls, there are primarily Boys in my family.

... we have a Condo developer that wants to "move existing wetlands" to a public park--and I bet he gets away with it  ...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm OK with "moving" wetlands, and as long as it's a public park it'll never be up for development again so it becomes permanent wetlands. Um, it does become a permanent taxpayer financial liability however, so I hope they take that into consideration (grab all they can from that developer while they're hot to build).

... I would love to see a Walmart in my town ......

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Note: The following sounds harsh and I apologize for the tone, but the same thing is being played out all across the country. Wal-Mart IS fulfilling a need and has become very successful doing so, I just hate seeing the fallout from it (and I have seen it documented and personally through friends & family).

So you'll save a dollar or two on a few household items and you'll get a larger selection of merchandise. Meanwhile third-world workers including kids are slaves who never see daylight, hundreds of thousands of American workers are losing their livelyhood, businesses are bankrupted, families are breaking up from the stress, and millions more lose future opportunities to earn a decent living.

But at least your kid'll get the right calculator for school. :(

You are right, JDoors, and I didn't see any harsh tone at all

I would just like some competition for the stores in my town so they'll clean up their act!!! I know this can be done. A few years ago, a "Hot and Now" (39 cent hamburgers, good ones, too) opened up. Guess what? Suddenly the McDonalds and BK had significantly faster, friendlier service and noticably cleaner restaurants! (Our McDonalds is known for having one cashier at noon) When the Hot and Now closed up (bad management), guess what?? Back to long lines, rude treatment and dirty floors at the other hamburger joints...

You have a 12 year old, Brian?? Oh, my sympathies ;) One thing that worked like wonders when Daughter was that age (she's 22 now) was when "the hormone mood swing thing" kicked in, I sat down and told her that it is temporary and she will outgrow it by 15 (ok, it took me till 16, I "tweaked" it) Mind over Matter. About 2 weeks before her 15th birthday, she threw one of her temper tantrums. When it was over, she sobbed, "well at least I'll be 15 soon". Guess what??? That was her last big whopper tantrum!

And there were plenty of times that Hubby walked into the room with me saying "Just be nice to her today--no matter what she does, bite your tongue, use earplugs, run for the hills--don't start anything!!"

I grew up in a family of five girls (stairsteps--imagine 5 between the ages of 13 and 18) Now my Son is the one who throws me for a loop!!!

Just don't let her grow up too fast!!!

Not a problem Liz. Her mother and I vowed we would give her a childhood and it has been a happy one for her so far. She is not exposed to the media and the internet, and we made a clear separation between school life and home life (no calls at night). To give you a hint, we just had to explain to her what 'getting high' meant (she heard it in the hall at junior high). Hopefully I will be able to put her back in private school next year, public school isn't living up to our expectations.

If your 22 year old has a boyfriend that isn't treating her right you should suggest she listen to Dr. Laura. At first I hated her guts, and overtime it sinks in. Life is too short to waste time on bad relationships, and young women tend to hang on to bad relationships. Dr. Laura spends a lot of time talking about how to see a good or bad character in a mate. And once you have found one, how to keep them feeling loved. She has books out on the 10 stupid things men do to mess up their lives, and one of my favorites, "The proper care and feeding of Husbands"...:)

you guys still haven't gotten the hang of a really good ranting. so here's my rant.

i open up the bread stick my hand in and what’s this? half the loaf is already gone but here’s an end piece. what the hell?! i thought they outlawed those by now. what the hell are they and what are they good for? they’re completely useless. nobody wants them, no one will eat them. it doesn’t even look like a delectable slice of bread. you ever notice that end pieces have this crease in the middle of it with both ends puffing. it looks like a sideways ass. yes bread ass ladies and gentlemen. brown puffy ass. what must my family be thinking when they get a slice of bread.

“i’ll just get a slice of bread here.

(opens bag of bread and sticks hand in)

Ooo what’s this, and end piece? Ewwwww!! i’ll just grab one a couple of slices back and leave it for someone else in my beloved family. they like end pieces anyways. i’m doing them a favor. :) â€

one time i had the door open and saw some birds on the lawn so i took the end pieces and tossed them out there, and the birds hopes up to it and pecked at it for a second. then i swear one of the birds lifts his head and gives me this look.

“end pieces? what are you kidding me? hey guys come look at this joker, he’s to cheap to give us bread crumbs!“

o what do you do? you take the end pieces and stick them in a bag and there’s 2 to a loaf of bread so the bag fills up quickly. so now you’ve got a bread bag full of end pieces. so what do i do with them. throw them away right? Nooooo don’t do that. cause then they might talk to the other completely useless food products like corn. left over from toco night. corn! yes corn. you’ve already herd my rants about how corn is plotting to take over the world and i for one don’t want my end pieces talking to corn. there’s enough troubles in the world as it is. they might get to know each other and bread might join the fight for global domination. and i can just leave it here for ever. it’ll get all moldy and stink up the place. so i figured that i’ll just dump the end pieces into the compost pile and every thing was fine for a while but thennnnnn. all hell broke loose and things got a little weird.

ok i dumped the bread into the compost pile and every thing was fine for a while. for some unknown reason someone dumped one of those old 80’s light drawing toys. you know. it’s a board with a bunch of holes and you stick in these little light bulbs to sketch out pictures like happy faces or words like i love you. anyways the other night i noticed a light shinning directly into my room. i got up and looked out the window to look. the toy would light up and it said.

“you’ve f**cked me for the last time human. the corn told me everything.â€

what the hell who put corn in there?! AHHHHH jeashhh i knew that this would happen. so now every night there’s a new friendly message on there.

“i’m going to kill you. i hate you. your in for it now.â€

and now i’m to afraid to go over there. like i might get attacked by a nuclear bread butt nugget attack or something.

Dry them and store up enough to make Stuffing/Dressing. (Don't add corn! Ha!).

The only time a crust is good fresh is when it is fresh homebaked out of the oven.

Unfortunately my Mom always said don't eat the crust until the rest is gone because it keeps the rest of loaf from drying out....I would sneak back to kitchen and eat it anyhow slathered with great gobs of butter, unless Dad beat me to it.

Pat.

God bless everyone.

Ahhhh, this is why I miss you when you're AWOL, Macmarauder  .....Welcome back.

Oh, its a Light Brite--hours of yardsale based fun for the kids, hours of pain for me sucking the darned plastic "brites" into the vacuum cleaner or stepping on them.

Ducks...that's your solution...put the bread crusts in the freezer then go feed the ducks when the bag gets full. Hijack a kid to help!!!

Yaaaahhhh! New Rant, just like the old rant!

Tech support!

I boot up today, walk away to pour the coffee, return and my firewall has plastered alerts all over the screen. "This application is requesting access to the Internet; Allow, Block, etc." Hey, I allowed that application years ago but then computers suck and things go wrong all the time so what the heck, click, "Allow."

"This application is requesting access to the Internet; Allow, Block, etc." Look buddy, I just clicked allow ... ok, relax, click, "Allow."

You can guess. The same alerts popping up repeatedly, an endless loop.

Thought I'd try their website, see if a FAQ or a search can turn up an answer. FAQ's have, in my experience, been of practically no use whatsoever. It may be that I have JUST enough knowledge that I would have already tried anything listed in them. Searches just turned up their FAQ's. On to the 'live' chat!

First guy: Pretty good, when I explained the problem he almost immediately began to list what I needed to do, but the alerts kept popping and interferring with my connection (they block it until I click 'allow,' but the problem is they block it again and again). Before I got an answer their service cut the connection. So I tried again.

Second guy: Less good. I explained again and he started me down the path of the noob. Got nowhere before the alerts interferred and the service dropped my connection. Again ... :\

Third guy: I was learning how to get around the problem of having the connection dropped (turn off all the programs that automatically connect so the firewall won't interfere trying to block them). He tried 'sending' me to pages that were supposed to help but the first one said to e-mail the contents of an error log to their tech support -- Umm, I told him the firewall's blocking my e-mail program so how was I supposed to do that?

The second page was an uninstall the firewall page, which I printed. The third ... hey, I can't remember.

Uh-oh, here come the alerts again and sure enough, the connection drops.

So, I'm on my own ... I Add/Remove Programs, uninstall the firewall and reboot. Now I'm online without a firewall (ack!). I go to their site to redownload the program and CANNOT figure out where it is. Still online without a firewall (ack!). I finally find it (under the "My Account" link ... yeah, right where I'd put it), download, install, reboot.

Same problem!

Another option on the uninstall page was a manual uninstall, it actually said if the auto-uninstall doesn't work, do it manually; Safe Mode, delete registry entries, search the drive for particular files and delete them, more files, reboot. Online without a firewall again (ack!) but I know right where to go so I download, install, and reboot.

I get a DOS screen with random colored characters!

Ack.

Reboot, and everything's fine. Of course I have to reteach the firewall which applications are safe all over again. Two hours wasted.

[\rant] :)

Bozodog, I get confuzzled with our ONE remote! OK, we have a remote for the DVD player, but I hand it to one of the kids and say, "YOU do it"

My rant

Geez, the drivers lately are so worked up over Christmas Shopping that they're as bad as the summer tourists. I only went to the mall once this "shopping season", on a Tuesday afternoon before the crowds get out of work, and I think I sprouted a dozen grey hairs just in the mall parking lot. Hang up and drive, people!

End rant

Ooooo.. robroy. Nope that wasn't me... I do my best to keep the rubber side down. Besides, it was probably a soccer mom with a cell in her ear that caused it.

Yeah, Liz. What is it with folks that bring NASCAR to the parking lots? And those freekin' phones!

Well our mayor instituted a setback toward the WalMart project. We have in NY a program called Empire Zone which grants businesses breaks. The town that is trying to get WalMart to build had these benefits, which are supplied by the city, applied for 125 acres. They tried to slip the property that WalMart wants to build on into this tract. The mayor took away all Empire Zone benefits for the town period and gave them to businesses in another town and part of the city. He also stated he will not extend any sewer or water service to the town. The town has threatened to sue so the mayor replied he hopes they have deep pockets because he will retaliate with a lawsuit against the town for polluting our lake.

Score one for your mayor... Like WalMart needs a tax break??? Phaaa! Our sister town of Portage, fought like hell to keep them out. Not bacause of the mom 'n pop shops. But because the "eliete" there thought it was too "hokey" (but there are sure a lot of hummers, lexus', and SUV's in Sams Club lot.) They made WalMart jump through hoops to get in there, and I'll bet it's the best looking WallyLand in the world... Brick and wrought iron fences, a nature walking path, nice plantings and set way way back off the road.

Call me cynical (because I am) but couldn't you say all that purtiness was subsidized by taxpayers? Give 'em mulit-million dollar tax breaks then say make it purty we don't care how much it costs? Neither do they, they're not paying for it.

At least that's the way it worked here. The local paper broke down the amount of tax revenue businesses hand over to the town and Wal-Mart was fifth on the list due to tax breaks. Meijer, a competitor, was number one.

I don't remember where this happened but didja hear about "shopping cart rage?" A lunatic got mad, rammed his cart into a car in the parking lot, when that didn't do quite enough damage he picked up the cart and FLUNG it on top of the car.

Grrr!!!

That's going to be us the next time some ditzy dame in a parking lot way to small for her huge SUV tries to run me or my husband down as if her time is more important than letting people get to their car in one piece.

I hit one car in driver side window with my heavy purse (to bad the window didn't break!) for nearly running over my toes (about four inches or less from my foot) (car left dirt against my pants leg at knee) as she tried to cram her car past the car waiting for another car to pull out of parking space (probably wanting to steal the parking space which was to small for her anyhow). My husband said if he'd had a cart it would have been decorating her windshield. And she never even acknowledged, maybe didn't see or hear us over her noisy radio and her cell phone plastered to her ear, that we were having any problem with her driving like a selfish idiot.

The sad thing is I had had the bright (not really) idea to look for something at Walmart (NE Portland) last month. Website for the product said they carried it which they didn't but that is besides the point. Only been there about four or five times, all bad experiences in parking lot or in store, with lunatics trying to mow everyone down to get ahead or grab something or just being idiots. It is a dirty smelling, dirty looking store, very small tight parking lot that is only fit for small cars not the trucks or SUVs that go in anyhow, and I dislike Walmart in general so am never going to like shopping there. So this time I told hubby to not ever let me talk him into going there to look for anything ever again and he readily agreed. Lesson finally learned while I still have all my body parts intact.

There's a Winco grocery store in Tigard on my list to avoid too, for the same type of idiot drivers who could care less if someone gets hurt by their careless driving. In fact that is the parking lot my hubby decided that a shopping cart might be the only defense we had. Though a tank might be a better answer.

What's with people and their selfishness while driving, their utter disregard for people (especially pedestrians), and their deliberate lawbreaking? Don't they even think of how maybe it might delay them further if they do end up hitting someone or something? All I can say is they will get some of their own selfish irresponsibility right back to them if that is all they ever do themselves. What goes around, comes around. I just feel bad for the kids in car with them, seeing and learning their bad behaviour.

Ok end rant...it's supper time so had better eat and calm down. I still shake thinking of how close that car was to injuring me. Sigh!!!

Pat

God bless everyone.

You have to let those maniacs go, sorry to say.

When I worked security at a casino I drove past two people "talking" to each other at the entrance to a parking lot. I had the gut feeling I should turn around and check it out. When I got there one of the guys was laid out on the pavement, out cold.

Turns out the guy who got knocked out was almost run over by the other guy in his BMW. As he lept out of the way he hit the BMW's door. So the guy in the BMW stops his car, gets out, exchanges words with the guy he almost ran over, then decks him.

People who drive like that are freaks of nature, like rabid animals. They are completely, totally, unaware of their surroundings. They will never, no matter what you do, no matter how you wish the universe worked, never, ever, take responsibility for what they do. IT WILL ALWAYS AND FOREVER BE YOUR FAULT.

No encounter in a parking lot can change those people's personality. Years and years of therapy has a chance, but you have NO chance in a brief encounter. You will not change their minds or 'teach them a lesson' no matter what you say or do. The only outcome will be that person heaping more abuse on you, possibly physical harm. They will go home thinking THEY were the ones who encountered a maniac that day.

It's tough to turn away when you've been wronged, but you wouldn't pet or pick up a rabid animal, would you? Than kind of anti-social behavior is your clue that they are the equivalent of a rabid animal. Dangerous and sick. Protect yourself, get away from them immediately.

I don't mean to say you have to cower in fear, but be aware that they've already exhibited dangerous behavior and know what you might be getting yourself into.

A soccer mom in her big SUV, with a cell phone in her ear and the rear view mirror adjusted so she can see her mascara, is not exhibiting dangerous behavior. It's spoiled, selfish, stupid behavior. But, to retaliate would probably find you in court, being sued by her spoiled, selfish, stupid husband.

When you risk being run over, it's dangerous. You're supposed to pay attention to your driving, if you don't, it's dangerous.

WHY someone's doing something dangerous doesn't make it not dangerous. It could be selfishness, stupidity, inattention, poor skills, whatever. Driving a two ton vehicle is dangerous even IF you're paying attention.

Semantics. :)
