AVG was falsely reporting a trojan (Flooder.Ake) then deleting a critical system file thereby causing your PC to keep rebooting. It was stated not to allow AVG to remove this "trojan". Some people had to do a repair install because of this. There were a couple of files to rename temporarily to stop AVG from detecting the "trojan" until a newer update for AVG straightened this out. An old friend from TechTV TeMerc is looking into it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Found it posted at Grisoft's AVG forum. http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php...7,backpage=,sv= -

Try running Windows Memory Diagnostic. Also try; Go to Windows Live Onecare Free Scan (using Windows Explorer only) It will say "Get a free PC safety scan" http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm Make sure you click "Full Service Scan" in the middle of the page and not the "Try It Now Free" on the right side. Allow it to download the Active X components. Choose "Complete Scan" in the window that opens Click "Next" Do not click on anything else that offers you a free trial or to sign up if you live in the US. Allow it to scan - it may take quite, maybe two hours or so depending on how bi -

Thank you all so much for helping out. Terrorist, as always, I can't thank you enough for taking time to check this out for me. I am now torn --not knowing whether or not she will be offended that I am not positive about this tech guy she seems to like. My guess is that he is getting some kind of kick back or would never ever have suggested this. She is a senior citizen like me...just not as aware of things, so is, I'm sure, easy to take advantage of. I need to figure out a way to tell her and will! Appreciate the link --that will help in my endeavor!!! Thanks again, nancy Just e -

I would tell your friend to return the product and demand the money back. Have her print out the information below to bring with her. Tell her to stop doing business with that individual. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#ss_note -
i'm going through all of the old tips to keep car/truck doors from freezing. These include placing a magnet over the lock opening to stop the water getting in and freezing, rubbing corn oil over the doors gaskets so they don't stick, keeping windshield washer solvent with anti-freeze in a spray bottle in the trunk or box to remove ice buldup and mix 3 parts white vinegar to 1 part water in a spray bottle to apply to the outside of the windows, which should prevent frost buildup. Must not forget to clean your wiper blades with undiluted vinegar so you don't get those black streaks. Naturally th

It sounds like they had the problem at their end (switch) in the first place. I have had that occur twice in 5 years. I went through the same deal with tech support changing this setting and that only to find it was their problem. I always reverted the network settings back to default once they fixed their issues. I also flashed my modem (Speedstream 5200) with firmware I read about and discussed with tech support to change the modem into a router and no longer use their software.

We're getting more white stuff right now. I had to drive in a near white out last night to shoot pool. Between people in front of me tapping their brakes, and a-hole behind me trying to do 60 and a couple of cars coming from the other way with those d@#n blue headlamps blinding me it was a normal first storm drive. My GMC winter rat amazed me the way it handled the slippery roads. I did find out I need to clean and lubricate the door mechanisms. Both doors were stubborn opening once they froze. No wonder so many people break the door handles used on those years GM trucks. I also need to fix my

I am looking at the lake effect band heading my way on NWS. Looks about seven inches headed for me with wind chill at 11F. Nice weather to install a hot tub at the job I'm doing. It is going to be cold on that deck overlooking the lake. Nuts. I drove over to the spa joint and asked when they were going to deliver this morning. They said no way this morning. Must be they're afraid of a little snow. hehehehe

I don't mind the snow as long as it doesn't come down like it did here in March two years ago. Just up the road from me in March 2004

Using Hjt Or Msconfig To Stop Startups
TheTerrorist_75 replied to shanenin's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
That is because many program need to be running to be identified and deleted properly. It has nothing to do with system resource problems. -
Let it snow. Between the saturated ground from all of the rain this year and the strong winds it is dissipating as fast as it falls.

Using Hjt Or Msconfig To Stop Startups

All I can say is if you're comfortable in using msconfig do so, if not leave it alone. If a program is causing system resource issues due to it being poorly written get rid of it. I believe during install a program should ask if you want it to be in Startup. Many programs automatically install into Startup to make use of them "easier" for some users when they can be adjusted manually. -

We lucked out. The most powerful part of the storm skated just to the south and along the lake shore north of me. Now it's time to sit back and wait for the predicted lake effect snows with 60 m.p.h. winds later tonight. I went to the store before the storm arrived and stocked up on some goodies, gas and cigarettes.

Please keep it there. I have two more weeks worth of work outdoors to complete. The hot tub arrives Monday for me to install on the raised patio I just finished laying pavers on yesterday. I still need to cut the edge pieces, sand and tamp. I also need to finish the fourteen feet wide stairs leading up to the raised wooden deck six feet above the patio. It's bad enough that the severe thunderstorm line is approaching from Ohio with it's high winds causing damage in western NY already. We have had so much rain this year that the large trees cannot support themselves in the saturated soft ground

Using Hjt Or Msconfig To Stop Startups
TheTerrorist_75 replied to shanenin's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Poorly written programs cause memory leaks. Using msconfig isn't gong to cause catastrophic failures. What are system resources, and why do I run out of them? -
Using Hjt Or Msconfig To Stop Startups
TheTerrorist_75 replied to shanenin's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I never had a problem using msconfig on Win98SE as long as I knew it was safe to stop a program after researching it. Many OEM computers install their own applications which could cause a problem if stopped using msconfig. One should check to see if the program can be stopped within itself first before resorting to using msconfig or another startup program. -

Need Xp Compatibility Test

That is a Shuttle Skywalker AI61 with the old AMD Slot A Athlon T-bird. That is the exact same setup in my other PC except the 750 MHz Athlon has had the smd resistors reworked to overclock it to 1GHz. That Bios should recognize larger hard drives. I run 2 20GB Western Digitals on mine. Have you tried running FDISK and selecting the option to see if it shows multiple partitions?
