Great to hear your forum is back on-line, Ed!

That sounds great, Hitest. You know that Ella also sang with those guys? Yep. I saw Count Basie and his band, Joe Pass, Oscar Peterson and Ella Fitzgerald in Vancouver, BC Canada; they appeared together. What a show! That was back in the early 80s.

Oh man, that sucks, Ed!! I hope you're back on-line soon!

I like that idea of backing up client work stations, that would make for easy data recovery and re-installs, that is a solid use for your Linux box. Bummer that you can't run Linux for the time being; I hope in the future you can pick up a box for Gentoo again. I've got three Linux boxes at home, but, they're ancient units (Pllls), they work okay. I bought all of my linux boxes second hand. I haven't bought a brand new computer in over 11 years. I've been saving my pennies so that I can get a macbook for my daughter ( hopefully she'll let me use it too, lol). I'd love to get new, killer P

Yeah, you probably might only notice a difference if you were doing video editing or some other processor intensive tasks. Do you ever get to work on people's Linux work stations at your shop? I'm certain *nix users will benefit from your experience. I'm happy to hear you're busy at your work site:-)

Yeah, I think it is wrong when PC retailers sell Vista units with 1 GB of RAM or less. People think they're getting a deal with these low cost units.

Very good, accurate stuff, marty! Right on!

Yeah, the mac mini looks attractive, very good specs. Yeah, having a command line interface is sweet:-) I'm going to be getting a macbook in the next little while. OS X is excellent.

Both 2 and F3 work, F3 for more options. This did not solve the issue. In the more options section you're going to need to experiment a bit. If you know the specs for your monitor and video card you can take a best guess as to what setting will work. I needed to mess around a bit to find a setting that worked for me. Good luck:-)

I suspect Knoppix is trying to load a screen resolution higher than what your laptop can handle. You can manually set your x windows configuration. I think you need to hit F3 when Knoppix is booting up or just finished booting up ( or maybe F2) which will give you a screen where you can manually enter your x windows settings. I've done this myself once, it should work for you.
