  1. Hi isteve:-) Thanks for the tips, man! I appreciate all the help I can get as I'm a complete mac n00b:-) Excellent point, Liz! Yep, I will indeed be checking up on my little one as she surfs the net. I don't want her getting into any weird stuff. She's happy as a clam today:-)
  2. I just finished setting up my daughter's new macbook. I'm very proud of her, she worked very hard and saved up for this unit. The unit is very nice indeed. She's happy now. She has wireless access in her room. Away from me downstairs:-)
  3. Debian Lenny. I've set my repositories to testing. That way when Lenny becomes stable I'll automatically be moved to Sid:-)
  4. Happy Birthday, Barb!!! I hope you had a good day:-)

    Macbook Failure

    I'm a Linux/Unix guy. I'll stick with a macbook, thank you.
  7. This is an article that I've recently published at a friend's website. I've contacted Jeff and he has given me permission to link to this site where my article is published. The article is a re-hash of a previous post that I've done. It is about my favourite distro. Slackware. Slackware Linux Tips

    Macbook Failure

Great show, Jeff! Just downloaded the mp3 stream and played it on my slackware box using Amarok. Oh man, that really sucks about your HD failing, Jeff. I'm not going to play this for my daughter as I've just bought her a new macbook. It should get here in a few days. The airport base station arrived today:-) Dang. This is not good.
  9. Looks nice, Matt:-) I'm paranoid about printers and Linux. Is that Lexmark unit Linux compliant?
  10. Found this link:-) textedit I think it says in textedit preferences that you can turn off some functionality so that it doesn't render the text as a web page.
  11. If it is a .deb file it should be listed in Synaptic. Fire-up Synaptic and type in Songbird into the search window. Synaptic should be able to find the package then you can select it for removal. I just tried to use Synaptic to locate an e-mail client that I use called First Class which is not an app from the repos, but, is a .deb file. Synaptic found it.
  12. This should work sudo apt-get remove package
  13. Very cool indeed, Matt! Slackware 12, XFce 4.4.2. Patched my unit a week or two ago to protect against the recently discovered root kernel exploit.
