  1. Yeah, it is difficult, indeed! They make some really good pizza which I will definitely get:-)
  2. Thanks, Carnevil! It is good to see you, Man!
  3. Thanks, Guys! I appreciate that a lot. We're going out for dinner tonight, I'm looking forward to this; we're going to be having Italian food at our favourite local restaurant "La Cucina."
  4. Happy Birthday, Mikex! The only mystical meaning I get from working is the satisfaction of a healthy paycheck, heh-heh.
  5. Congratulations, marty! I'm happy to hear that you got 8.04 installed! Yes. Ubuntu 8.04 is very good at finding printers, hardware!
  6. Congratulations, TT_75! Good news, my friend! You've worked hard for this.
  7. Thanks for the heads-up, Jeff!

Agreed. I think that MS provided a good marketing opportunity for alternative operating systems with Vista's roll-out. I think that Apple and Linux will continue to benefit from Vista's less than enthusiastic reception.
  9. Very cool, besttechie.net hits 3 K.

Great to hear you got your printer working, marty:-) Ubuntu 8.04 has exceptional hardware detection; I'm running 8.04 on one unit at work. For your information, marty, you can use the ubuntu 8.04 CD to check-out your computer before you install it to your hard drive. Boot into live mode (the top choice) then you can see if your sound card, video card, network card and printer works with 8.04 before you install. If everything checks out then install 8.04.
  11. Interesting. I did a little test comparison on my Linux box. First I ran FF 3.01 with 5 tabs open, also running Thunder bird 2.0.0.16, and my chat client Pidgin with two chat channels loaded. I then ran top and I had 8.6% CPU usage and 306 K RAM free of 768 MB RAM. Then I fired up Opera 9.51. Opened up 5 tabs, loaded up the integrated e-mail client (using IMAP on my gmail account), and loaded up the integrated chat client with the same two chat channels. Ran top again, had 2.6% CPU usage and 327 K RAM free. I'm a huge fan of FF 3.01. But, Opera 9.51 is faster. Opera FTW!
  12. Awesome give away, Jeff!! That will make a lucky forum member here very happy.
  13. Whoa......just saw the blog post, Jeff. Your new unit is sweet. ****drool****
  14. Congratulations, Jeff! Thanks for all that you do in providing an excellent forum for our members! Besttechie.net rocks!
  15. You could try a live cd like Ubuntu. Ubuntu comes with gparted which will allow you to relatively safely re-size and delete partitions on your unit. However, back-up your data before you attempt to delete partitions in case things go badly.

Hey Marty, According to the site openprinting.org, that printer, the bjc 255sp is Linux compliant and should work perfectly with Linux. Found this link: http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?r...Canon-BJC-255SP Did you try to go into the Administration section and add a printer in Ubuntu?
  17. Yep, FF 3.01 is a keeper:-) Nice and snappy on my Linux boxes and on OS X.
