  2. Hi Joe, marty! Hey, thanks guys, I had a very good day.
  3. I smiled and chuckled when it happened :-) Heh-heh, you would chuckle. Anyone like you who can hack Gentoo or LFS has my greatest respect. Did you recover your laptop yet, shanenin? Re-install?
  4. Yeah. Well-said. Trouble-shooting can be fun.
  5. There is a freebsd port for linux-flash called linux-flashplugin7. Strangely enough my re-install worked. I did have some corrupted libraries. New install of FreeBSD 7.0. Linux flash7 working:-) Edit// added later: Yeah, I also find it odd that there isn't a BSD version of flash, I need to run flash in linux emulation mode. I hope at some point I'll be able to run flash natively.
  6. Join the club. I've been frustrated with trying to get linux-flash installed on FreeBSD, I had lots of errors. So I blew out my FreeBSD partition with fdisk and did a clean install of FreeBSD, this time I only did a base install. I'm using pkg_add to install xorg and kde. I decided against compiling as it takes forever. After this I'm going to boot into Slackware for the next little while, LOL.
  7. Not yet. I'm going to take another swing at it today. I may end up doing a re-install as this install seems buggy ( I had a few packages fail during the initial install). I recall that the last time I installed FreeBSD 6.3 I compiled the entire operating system. This time I used pkg_add. Using ports to compile the entire system should build a more stable system. The only problem with compiling the entire system is it will take a lot of time. I'm having fun with this.
  8. Slackware is a very robust version of Linux that allows you to install software using a variety of methods. You can compile software directly from source code and you can install pre-built Slackware packages (packagename.tgz). I'd like to discuss a third way of installing software which is to use Slackware build scripts to create Slackware packages from source code. An important consideration when using build scripts is to use scripts from a trusted source. I highly recommend the build scripts which are maintained by Robby Workman et al: slackbuilds.org Creating packages with build scrip
  9. Happy Birthday rhema7, deaf_girl!
  10. Awesome! Welcome back to Linux, shanenin!
  11. The linux_base-fc4 package compiled properly, but, nspluginwrapper failed with errors in a variety of libraries. I think I've got conflicts in my libraries that I'll need to de-bug (which is weird). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Matt:-) I'll keep plugging away at it:-)
  12. Dang it! Thanks, Matt! I did install linux compatibility, but, forgot to compile linux_base-fc4. Compiling now. Hopefully these met dependencies will do it:-)
  13. Hi Guys, I did a full install of FreeBSD 7.0 using the three install CDs. In the past with FreeBSD 6.3 I was able to install linux-flashplugin7 so that I could surf flash enabled sites with Opera. However, I haven't been able to install flash this time. I've navigated to the linux-flashplugin7 directory in /usr/ports and invoked make install clean which eventually fails with Error code 1. Maybe I've got a library conflict somewhere? I've also tried pkg_add, but, that fails too, it won't let me download the source package. This isn't a complete disaster if I'm unable to figure this out as
  14. Thanks, Brian. I had an awesome day, yesterday!
  15. Thanks, Pat! I did have a very good day yesterday.

  17. Here's a birthday card my 14 year old made:-)
  18. Hi sultan_emerr, JSKY, and Liz Thanks for the kind birthday wishes! I had a great dinner.......I'm absolutely stuffed. Chocolate cake....later.
  19. t has been awhile since I've run FreeBSD so I thought I'd try the latest offering from the stable branch. This is FreeBSD 7.0 running KDE 3.5.8. I'm liking KDE a lot again:-) I set-up a dual boot with FreeBSD 7.0 on one of my Slackware 12.1 boxes. It is all good.
  20. Thank you, Barb!! Cold beer and pizza........awesome, my favourite!!!
  21. Thanks, TT_75! LMAO. Good idea. I need a lot more real estate now to fit all of the candles.
