  1. Hey hitest, After a bit of a hiatus from linux I decided to throw ubuntu on my notebook and was more than irritated with its insistence on setting its install on the windows partition when I had a partition allocated for its use...I didn't want to manually create all partitions it needs but at least thought I could tell it to use any partition on the drive...besides that annoyance and the prism driver for my wireless not working like it did in previous releases I'd still probably recommend it as user-friendly Hi t0c!!!! Good to see you in the Linux forum, man! Welcome back! I should proba
  2. Hey Honda Boy:-) I'm really impressed with the hardware detection of Ubuntu 8.10 and recommend it without reservation. Also, Ubuntu is probably the best in the business with non-destructively re-sizing a Windows partition to set-up a dual boot with Windows/Ubuntu. This way you can keep your Windows partition for gaming/anime.
  3. I guess one of my many concerns about letting them finish each other off is that the situation could escalate and go very bad. That is, Israel will never sit by and let themselves be beaten. When attacked, they always hit back five times as hard. But, if things go bad for Israel they are a nuclear armed country.
  4. Hi Tyme:-) Welcome back, man!
  5. Thanks for that, Matt! Eight years of bs indeed.
  6. FreeBSD 7.1 released! http://www.freebsd.org/
  7. Looks good, Matt:) Slackware 12.2, KDE 3.5.10
  8. I'm currently running a dual boot with Slackware 12.2 and FreeBSD 7.0. To set-up a dual boot with Slackware and FreeBSD: 1. Install Slackware first and leave a partition of un-allocated space for FreeBSD. 2. Install FreeBSD onto the free partition. Do not install the FreeBSD boot loader as lilo will boot-up FreeBSD. 3. Boot into Slackware and edit /etc/lilo.conf. Here is my lilo.conf, adjust as needed. # Linux bootable partition config begins image = /boot/vmlinuz root = /dev/hda2 label = Linux read-only # Linux bootable partition config ends # FreeBSD other = /dev/hda3 table = /dev/hda
  9. Happy Birthday, Antonio:-)
  10. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. just finished blowing out XP Pro and Ubuntu on my Intel Core Duo unit and putting Slackware 12.2 on it. This feels like home to me.
  11. Very cool hitest! Get a good deal? Why not put 64 btt on there? Also, what's with the Windows wallpaper? Yeah, I got a good deal for the used unit:-) Heh, the Windows wallpaper happened as I was setting up the dual boot with XP Pro, I imported the settings from XP:-) LOL, yeah the wallpaper looks kinda weird:-) Heh, I like the wallpaper. I'm happy with it so far. It has a DVD burner as well. It is interesting to have XP again.....although I don't boot into Windows that often.
  12. Heh, that was very weird! Welcome to our forum:-)
  13. Hi Shaunkumz:-) Welcome!! Happy New Year to you as well:)
  14. Finished getting my Christmas present set-up yesterday. Bought a used 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo with 2 GB DDR2 RAM from ebay. Ubuntu 8.10 is snappy on this unit. This is my first fast computer and I'm loving it:)
  15. Ha-ha-ha-ha, great picture, man! Happy New Year, Besttechie.net!! Take a cab tonight if you get faced:)
  16. Pay for view from MS? I don't like it at all. It doesn't have an impact on me as I don't use MS products very much. Sounds like a cash grab to me.
  17. Very nice, Jeff:) Up here in Canada we get hosed with data plans. What does it cost down in NY for a good data plan with AT &T?
  18. I agree with all of isteve's points. It depends on what you like to do with your Mac, but, I would definitely get more RAM; I would at minimum double your RAM to 2 GB. My daughter is very happy with her Macbook, it runs flawlessly:)
  19. The way things are going you may get your wish, TT_75. The escalating violence and saber rattling on both sides is disconcerting. It will take some skilled diplomacy to de-escalate this dispute; I hope Secretary Clinton is up for the daunting task ahead. A lot can happen between now and January 20th. I hope that Secretary Rice can do something about this mess!
  20. Yes. I am following the mid-east escalation with a lot of concern! Obama is certainly stepping into a hornet's nest as he becomes president next month. I hope that he does well. Obama is such a calm person he may ,with the help of Secretary Clinton, be able to get the two sides back to the table.
  21. No need to apologize, marty! I've had the pleasure of knowing you for quite a few years now. I know you're a good guy. Thank you for the nice words. I should have understood what you meant. No worries, man:-) Yes. I've been reading about your health problems lately and my thoughts are with you! Hang in there and please get well soon. Happy New Year!
  22. Thank you, Liz! Yes, as you know having a teenager is a challenge:-) I do make mistakes sometimes, which I do regret:-) Happy New year! All the best to you and your adult children:-)
