It seems that President Obama will soon have enough votes to pass the stimulus bill. I am uncomfortable with the idea of the USA loaning 800+ billion to help revitalize the economy. However, it is also clear to me that Obama must do something as I think just sitting around and hoping that things will sort themselves out seems dangerous. Banks keep failing and almost 600,000 Americans lost their jobs in January. I have a keen interest in this issue as my country is linked to America. I know the GOP hates the idea of government intervention. Is there a middle ground here? Moving from a rec

I use MBAM at work; I'm happy with it.

What does a Liberal bias on my part or Matt's part have anything to do with the facts at hand? Bush never admitted to making mistakes until his last days in office. Obama has admitted to an error in the first weeks of his presidency. We don't need to spin anything.
-
Oh? Clearly you were making an attempt to divert the argument away from Matt's claim that Bush didn't admit to making mistakes. You were making fun of Matt's age, trying to discredit him, attacking an aspect of the man, not his argument. Hence my claim of ad hominem is true. I'm okay with the fact that you can't admit that you made an error in logic. I find it refreshing that Obama admits to making mistakes. It is a nice change. I am old enough to remember every year of the Bush presidency. He only admitted to a few errors in the last days of his presidency.
-
Attacking the person rather than the argument doesn't negate the opposing point of view. It is called an ad hominem argument, Bubba Bob. A classic error in logic on your part. A debate can only work if you counter the claim made. Making fun of Matt does not diminish his argument. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

Obama: $500,000 Salary For Top Executives
hitest replied to Besttechie's topic in World and Politics
If a company is in danger of going into receivership and uses taxpayer money (bailout) to remain afloat then yes I think a cap on executive salaries is in order. I think the cap on executive salaries should remain in effect until the company has paid off the loan. -
I can think of one reason to legalize some drugs like marijuana. People will use pot whether it is legal or not. At the present time pot is illegal which means the people selling it are criminals: pushers, gang bangers, bikers, mafia, etc. Drug profits are huge and this sets up drug wars between rival criminal factions. People get caught in the cross fire. If some drugs (pot) were regulated for purity and the distribution was limited to adults this might remove some of the criminal elements in the drug scene. However, I can see no reason to legalize some drugs like methamphetamine. Many

It appears that the cease fire is now on shaky ground as Israel is threatening a disproportionate response to recent mortar attacks. Clinton will be earning her pay soon. http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/02/01/mid...st.3-420507.php

Happy Birthday, isteve:) I hope you have a great day!!

Ahem........well, I'm a school teacher.....so of course I've never inhaled:) Legalizing pot is a tough one as the issue is so divisive. However, pot can ease the suffering of patients with chronic pain. I think that pot is a drug like alcohol. It should be regulated, legalized. This would get rid of the criminal element.

You might be right. Time will tell. I certainly don't envy Obama. I hope this package works.

I'm not that comfortable with the stimulus package and I am a Liberal living up here in Canada. I guess the question becomes what happens if Obama does nothing to correct the financial mess left by Bush? Will the market completely collapse if Obama lets the market sort itself out? Obama is trying to save the US economy. Frightening times indeed!

Having several accounts is also a great idea if you want to use multiple ipods on the same macbook. My wife and daughter are able to synchronize their two ipods on the same macbook.

Well-said iccaros. The only way to activate a trojan or malware as a user in OS X is to install the software. As long as you're not running in admin mode in Unix (which is a really stupid thing to do) you are for the most part safe in Unix/Linux/OS X. Running as a regular user you will be prompted for the root password to install software. So if you install software from trusted sources, keep your Unix system patched and up to date with the latest security fixes you are in good shape.

A very Happy Birthday, JSKY:-) Enjoy!!

Yes. I think it is possible that Bush had another motive to go to war (oil, revenge). That is difficult to know. Agreed. Bush did not feel bound by the UN ( it will be interesting to see how Obama handles himself on the International stage). My main previous point though was that Bush bears some of the blame for the present financial crisis. He gave the executive order that started Shock and Awe which resulted in billions being spent on a needless war and America going deeper into debt. His actions completely de-stabilized the mid-east allowing Iran to become a powerhouse. Prior to the

Yep. All of the spending on the Iraq war did not need to happen. As commander in chief the buck stopped with Bush. Bush could have waited a bit longer to let Hans Blix look for WMDs. Eight billion+ per month continues to be spent in Iraq. I hope Obama is able to end the war in a timely manner.
-
Agreed. I wish him well as he takes on the s**t-load of problems on his plate. I don't envy him one bit.

A minor point. The Bush administration did not hold true to the conservative maxim, that is, to be fiscally responsible. The Bush administration spending policies made Congress seem like a light-weight. I mean come on,man:-)
