  1. Hey guys, about a year ago I came across some online Microsoft training courses. I don't remember where it was exactly. It was through MS. I can't find it now. I do remember I had to register.....you guessed it I lost it.

Anyone know what/where I'm talking about.

  2. I got a laptop for work. It has a fressh install of Vista on it. How can I go about removing the old user info from ir, registered user, and what not. The user folders has the original users name. Not so bad but bothersome.

Can I create a new user, pull my downloads over, delete original user? Both are admin for now.

  3. My friend bought 1 gig of ram, 512x2. The memory does not show the correct amount. I swapped slots / mixed old and new / old and new in different slots...never the correct amount.

I used an eraser to clean the pins on the new ram. if one 512 is installed it shows as 192 in the BIOS. One 256 and one 512 shows 448. Two 256 or two 512 shows 448 in the BIOS.

    Computer info:

    Sony Viao

    PCG K25

    Factor RAM:

    256 X 2 Total 512 onboard

    Infineon

    HYS64D32020GDL-6-C

    PC2700

    DDR 333

    CL 2.5

    New RAM:

    512 X 2 Total 1 Gig

    Crucial

    CT6464X335.8TDY

What did I miss? Will try them in my machine to rule out bad ram.

  5. I was not due to start work until Monday, I got a call last night to see if I can go to Dallas, TX for a training class on this Wednesday. I jumped on it. Hotel and class are paid for and I will be well reimbursed for the mileage.

I leave this afternoon to be back Wednesday night. It is about 6 hours from my home to Dallas. Guess I need to throw some mp3 cds in the truck for this trip.

It is all working out for the best. The wife may come, she is undecided. the kids are in their early teens so they can hang out at a friends house for a couple nights.

  6. Had the compressor fan go out on my unit a few years back. I rigged a water sprinkler to mist water on the outside coils. The heat was 90+ outside and I had the inside down to 70. I live in a mobile home so you know it is not the most energy efficient home.

This happened to me about 8-10 years back when I worked in the Gulf of Mexico, did the same thing. The office could not get us a tech or parts for 2 weeks. Being on a steel boat in the summer it gets hot quick. We actually forgot about the unit being down until the tech showed up. He did freak when he seen we were keeping the system cool with salt water.

I say keep the filters changed with a decent filter. Find an AC tech you can trust to check your system and not charge for needless service.

  7. XP Home, 512 ram, ??cpu??

I got a call from a friend, he has a Sony Viao Laptop. It will get hung in a reboot loop. It gets to the black screen to boot to safe mode, and what not. The only way it will load in to windows is to select Last known good config. I had him try safe mode, safe mode with networking and Normally. Each would get him looping. But it is not on every shut down or every reboot that this happens. I will pop up a blue error screen but not long enough to see the error, only maybe 2 seconds.

Any suggestion on where to look? I will be in Dallas tomorrow evening will be back home Wed evening. I will ask him to bring it by to check it out then, and to add his memory, will have a total of 1Gig when it leaves.

I will split the proceeds with anyone who wants a cold brew, LOL. Can only have 11 "helpers" though.

  8. I have had no issues with "piggy backing" HDD to do backups and recovery. I have used Kill Disk to wipe data from the drive, then use XP format it from the disk management window. This way no need to install the complete OS, after all XP does use a number of GIGS of space.

  9. Desktop Support, Server support, and Networking mostly. I will need to learn servers. The company is outsourced IT for many small/medium sized business. Clients all along the Gulf Coast area. The company is also a Microsoft Partner. I will have the training tools available as needed.
