  1. Quick question. Does your system meet the requirements for running ICS Software's programs? Which of their programs are you trying to install? They state you must be running Win XP Pro SP2 or higher with all updates.

I have windows xp home edition. Does that matter so much?

And yes, I ran the sfc /scannow but I don't know how to find the file path thingey to register the dll.

I came in on this thread late, but this is what I see. You have home and you need Pro.

I see many business trying to run on Home. Everything was fine at first when they purchased the computer. Now they are starting to utilize more and more of the resources available to them they realize they need XP Pro. Then after a review of their systems you see the reason for their problems are compounded. Lake of ram to run multiple office applications and the lack of resources that Pro would provide.

If your are doing this for your "work" then present your supervisor with the pros of having a machine designed for the working environment, not a home machine adapted to the work environment. It will cost money but it will be the right tool for the right job.

    Edited quotes for clarity.

  2. then put it on the "family" PC for my parents to use (it's one of my computers but my parents, and my brother when he visits, use it)

    WINK WINK

    LOL

I guess letting them use your rig is the least you can do for all the trouble you were as a young'un. Gotta keep mom happy.

I can see where college kids can make a couple bucks for someone else to save, just by going to best buy to pick up a couple copies for the "guys back in the dorm", cough cough.

    P.S.

Welcome to Besttechie.net. We are different from other forums. We are like family. So since your the new guy it is your turn to do the dishes after supper.

  4. I would try to pin point any changes on your machine. Also track the speed so when you contact your provider you have dates and times of the issues you are having. All this is under the assumption your machine is cleaned of spyware and virus. I would use more than one scanner to verify the machine is clean so if the subject comes up you have proof.

Also this could be the burst of the ISP. ISP's use the burst for users to have the speed upfront but the speed drops as time goes on, until certain criteria are met then the bandwidth will burst again.

  5. As far as I know, No, but I am saying this with regards to the HP I had that had a bad connector on the board. It needed the battery to operate.

If the connector on the board is bad I look at replacing the board, even if it is with a used one.

I used this site to purchase a used screen, call them they have a database of parts not listed online. The service was good, screen was just as described.

    Good luck.

  6. The internet is an international network. So this raises more questions as to who has what.

I would prefer the freedom to have what ISP and be able to go where I want with the same priority as somewhere within the realm of my ISP and its partners.

  7. I found this today. I didn't know about it so I wanted to pass it on.

Open a .pdf with Adobe Reader. Go to view/read out loud/enable read out loud. Now click next to some text, it will put a line around the paragraph and read to you.

I passed it around the office and no one knew it would read.

    Have fun.

  8. It is a side by side set up. freezer stays mostly full.

I defrosted the freezer with a blow drier, wiped the moisture from the interior. I checked the coils under the unit, there is some dust but I would say it is about 80% dust free. I turned the thermostat back back just a bit from what it was.

I have a thermometer in the fridge side watching it close....
