Yes, we use this program here at work actually. What it does is make it so that everytime the computer is rebooted, it goes back to the original settings at the time it was installed. It also gets rid of any files that were saved on the computer as well as any other crapware, etc. I'm not sure what all you can and cannot select to change since I was not here when they installed it. Here's the web site for it: http://www.faronics.com/html/deepfreeze.asp

Congrats Hondaboy! I'm glad to hear that you'll be going to community college for a bit. Seriously, that is a HUGE help. You get a lot of classes out of the way and for a lot cheaper (even better with the scholarships!). BTW - Hondas and Toyotas rock!

Yep, you got me Mac! I liked my spankings I just had to have another birthday! lol You're right though, this year sure has flown by.
-
Hi Keith! Nice to know I've been missed.
-
LOL bear! My newest client uses Winders ME too.
-
Thank you everyone! Now that things are calming down, I'll try to be around more often.
-
I bet my power supply from my old laptop could cook that bacon faster! LOL

Since the kids are now gone and the boss and co-worker are away for the week, I've got time to play....and I'm BORED! lol I'm checking out these links now too.

thanks everyone! Finals ended yesterday, so now I don't have anyone to help around here. The boss and co-worker are gone for the week, so now I finally get time to play around! Mom's bringing me lunch today, and tonight we're having manacotti for dinner and a large strawberry shortcake for dessert.

All of our networking equipment is already safely plugged into an UPS in my brother's room. I've just never had the money to purchase one myself. Now all I need to upgrade is the sound card (which can wait) and the Monitor (which I'm hoping can hold off til I find a REALLY good deal at a local store since I prefer to see my monitor before purchasing it.)
-
Yep, I've already gotten that straightened out. this piece only has 2 plugs. One for the PC box and one for the monitor to give enough time to close what I am doing and shut it down.

Excellent! Thanks! I knew I could rely on the great people here. Looks like the free one that was given to me is perfect for my computer. (Bonus is, it's an APC)

Thanks for letting us know. That really is sad. We used to PM each other a lot when I was still a member there.

Hi gang! I know I haven't been around much lately. It's just been a very busy time for me, but I"m still alive. That matters, right? Anyway, I've never dealt with a UPS before, and knew I could come here for some expertise. What I'd like to know is who do you know (calculate) how much the UPS should be able to handle? I have one that was given to me last night, but I want to make sure it can handle my computer. Are the calculations done in the same way as when you are trying to make sure your PS can handle your custom build machine? Any and all help is much appreciated! TIA! Neldy

Ok, I got through the format this time and windows ALMOST boots up. It gets past the screen it couldn't, but stops when the slashed line at the bottom of the screen is loading, then I get this error message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to repair"
-
Yes, I already thought it was a hardware issue. I was just hoping that maybe someone might have thought of something that might get it going without that. The laptop is about 4 years old and was bought off ebay. Unfortunately, since she does not have the money to replace it or anything. The last option is to reformat MY laptop and let her borrow it for school. It's not really what I want to do, but it's all that can be done.
-
Ok, went through the repair options. I only had the first one for some reason. I didn't have the second repair option. Just ran the fdisk util, and right now, I'm getting ready to try to install windows again. Will give you an update when I know what's going on.

My appologies. This is a Dell Inspiron 2650. I am using the Windows Installation CD that came with the laptop.

Hi everyone! It's been really busy for me, but right now I'm trying to work on my mother's laptop that she uses for school and of course I came to the best place for help. Ok, so basics of the issue. Her laptop (running windows xp) would suddenly not boot up. It would get to the windows loading screen and just stay there. I'm sure she's got all kinds of crapware on it, so I decided a fresh windows install would be best in this case. So....I tried a reinstall, but didnt' get far. I was able to get to where it would format the drive, but it would just stay there at 0%. So after about an hour
