  1. Good Afternoon Everyone: I recently installed Wordpress 3.01 from wordpresses website. I followed the instructions and made the wordpress database and set the permissions on it as required. I then moved the wordpress install to /var/www/blog for use by BBUS. Now, I have a question relating to the permissions for the wordpress files. They are all Owner "www-data" Group "www-data" and the directory is also set up the same way, like this: drwxr-xr-x 5 www-data www-data 4096 2010-09-03 11:56 blog while the rest of the directory under blog/ is owner "buddy" Group "buddy" Should I chown this di

Very Nice Pics: I'll have to get my Video Camera and my Still camera to get a few shots of some scenery around Vermont. It can be very beautiful this time of year. My favorite time of year is when you can see the leaves change and the weather gets a little cooler. When I was younger, I used to fish and camp at Lake Groton VT and I used to like to get up to a camp breakfast or a dinner cooked over a open fire. Those were the days. Vermont is a very beautiful place to live, work and play Brian
  4. Joe: The only thing I would say is to be careful with bestbuy. The reason I say this is when you go to a store like this, they have all the TV's lined up on shelves or on the wall, and they have the lighting set up so the TV looks really good in the stores, but when you get it home, and set in the place you want it, it can look worse then it did in the store - Be very careful about this, because your living room or bedroom is not going to be lit like they have it in the showroom. Second, When I got my first LCD/HD TV, I got a DYNEX 26" - Problem was, this is a bestbuy brand, and I had nothi
  5. JDoors: I've had to do this multiple times, and I can tell you from experience that Most of the time it was painless, but on rare occaisions, you don't have as much control over bringing your mail over to your new provider. When I switched from Fairpoint to Charter, I had to start a week or so earlier then I wanted to close down the other accounts. I simply changed a few of my internet related accounts a day, and then forwarded my mail from the old accounts to the new accounts and soon I had all of my older mail in my new accounts. I then went in and verified that all of my mail was being
  6. Hello All: I was just wondering if there is a way to grab all of my Godaddy Email by using PINE or ALPINE, and then be able to send mail using my PINE mailer as if it was coming from the Godaddy Servers? I believe that I have seen this done using a domain, but don't believe that Godaddy either knows enough about linux to set this up, or they simply don't want to deal with this. What I want to do is to be able to grab all mail from [email protected] and then have it come down to my mailspool, then be able to compose and send mail using PINE on my machine - Has anyone had any luck doing this wi

  8. jcl; since I am not able to compile myown kernal, is there a way that I may be able to troubleshoot this system - It may be older then the IBM Netfinity I had before Brian
  9. jcl: is there a malfunction in the kernal that does not allow the USB drives to be detected? Is this something that can be worked around, or can I add support for USB devices?? It sounds like without this usb section, my usb connections are dead..... Brian'
  10. Hello everyone: I have succeeded in installing Lenny on my new server, but unfortunately, it appears that again I CANNOT find my WD Mybook drive once she is hooked to the USB, however, I can see that a 4 port USB HUB is available when boot up is complete. I have a complete run of "mesg" and I post it here for your parusal. I need to be able to activate my USB devices/hubs, so I can get access to these drives. 11. jcl: Agreed - however, it seems that Apple should have realized that if they say that their machines dont get viruses, that some dope or group of dopes is gonna find a way for a virus to attack Macs - It may be true that Macs have less chance of being infected, but anything is possible, because if you can get into a machine with malicious code, it can be infected..... Brian
  12. Jcl: Thanks for that information - I am not sure how long the IBM server will stay up, but I am willing to try anything to get this data over there. Even if I have to manually create logins, groups and some passwords, at least that way I can read the info using nano I will keep you advised as we move forward Brian
  13. Good Morning all As many of you know, I have had a linux presence on the web on Buddy-Baker.us (BBUS) The original server was an IBM netfinity with SCSI drives and she has served me well. Starting in about February 2010, both Dan and I began noticing that the server (Heather) was not staying UP longer then maybe 3 days before she would power off. After checking the server, the server room power, the UPS's and finally the power cords to the server, it was determined that the server was shutting itself down, because it would do it every hour after awhile, then it went to about every 15 minu

  15. Full story here: http://news.softpedi...rt-151382.shtml I have heard of the stories of how Apple thinks that they are somehow "immune" from security holes, and I have even heard of stories in which, in some early apple ads, they SAY that "they don't get viruses" and that is why they are better - well, Apple removed that ad from the air when it was determined that Macs CAN get viruses. My feeling is that you would NOT want to announce that Macs don't get viruses, because someone is gonna find all the holes and then make viruses, and then they will have to work hard to plug the holes. Case in
  16. Hello There: I had an HP all in 1 myself and as you stated, it worked well with Windows XP. The problem that I ran into is that when you upgrade to windows 7, the functionality of the printer is limited (for Example, HP Director will not work with 7 at ALL, and there is an updated software for this function) Unfortunately, I had to REPLACE this all in one with an HP Deskjet J4500 series printer, which had all functionality that I wanted. The PSC2400 all in one would only do certain things, and NOT others, and it was almost impossible to get windows 7 drivers for, and the work-arounds were a
  17. Joe: I send my prayers and well wishes to you and your partner for her recovery - It ius good to hear that she is home, and it sounds like she is well on her way to a recovery - I almost died myself when my appendix burst, but lucky for me, I had some friends that were able to get me the help I needed. During this time, I became aware of how many people have helped me over the years, and how short life can be - It just goes to show you that you never know what will happen, so you have to enjoy life every day, and live each day to the fullest, remember to tell your family/friends and signific
