  1. Sultan was always known as a guy who could find really good links, and he always seemed to be a good guy - It is unfortunate to lose a good friend, for whatever reason it happens, God has a plan for each of us.  I think back to 04-05 when I started here, and over the years, things change, but we always seem to have fond memories of our friends - wherever they are, they are watching over us.  BT is a FAMILY, and I am [rpud to be a member  - We miss you bud!!

  2. Good Morning --

I am also saddened by this news.  When I was in Malware Removal Training back in 2007 or so, Don was also working with that.  Because of other commitments He left Training.  I also stayed on until other commitments forced me to give up the training.  Don was a good friend and a hard working kind of guy.  He always seemed to handle any situation with class and style, and as far as I know, never complained about his health issues, and  never missed an opportunity to teach users about life and Technology.  I found Don to be a guy that I trusted and respected because he told it like it was, and always had thoughtful responses, that were informative and useful.

Rest In  Peace Whiskeyman, Your Spirit will always be with us at BT.  Take Care, and I was glad to be able to be a friend to you!

  3. Good Morning Team:

I have been using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit for about 3-4 months.  I have also installed Internet Information Services Manager (IIS) Version 10.0.  I will tell you a little story:

Many of you know from my postings from about 2011 forward that I was working on my Linux Server (Debian 5.0 - Lenny) for a LONG while, setting up web and shell based services.  In July of 2013, the server went down for the last time, and has not been connected to the Internet or the Intranet since.  I have renewed BBUS's Domain for 2016, and would like to continue to serve a page to people.  This time, would like to run it off of this PC (BRIAN-PC).  Why you ask?  This is because someone broke into our offices and removed all computers that were in the basement of this location.  This really made me MAD, as I had put so much time into this machine, and it actually WORKED well.

Now, I want to move forward and try to serve a page.  I am really at a crossroads here, because when I installed IIS, I configured it as I believe it should be, and when the server is ON and running, if I am sitting in front of BRIAN-PC, I can go to http://buddy-baker.us, or http://www.buddy-baker.us I can get the site to pop up, because it seems to resolve to my PC.  I have opened ports in testing phases, Port 80, and Port 9000.  Doing this brings up the site on the internal IP, as long is it is bound to the site.

However, If I go to my roommate's Apartment across the hall, I go to http://buddy-baker.us or http://www.buddy-baker.us, or https://buddy-baker,us or https://www.buddy-baker.us I get nothing but a "Waiting for Response from buddy-baker.us" and then it just goes to an "Oops..." Page.

It seems that when I PING buddy-baker.us I get 4 rounds from 75.133.xxx.15.

So there are other things I have noticed as well.

    1.  I have opened port 80 for 192.168.0.10 - I also opened port 9000 -   These ports are forwarded to the external IP of buddy-baker.us  -  They seem to respond OK

    2.  The "oops Page" is telling me it cannot display the webpage when I do further investigation, it shows a time out

    3.  Even though I have opened port 80 and port 9000, if I use a port scanning tool, it shows ALL ports closed.

    4.  for XBOX ONE - One of the ports it needs for operation is port 80 - I KNOW from past experience, that this is because of the use of MS Edge.  Since I don't use MS Edge on the xbox, and because you cannot have the same port open for 2 different IP addresses at the same time, I REMOVED port 80 from the XBOX ONE's IP Addresses - It seems that there is a plethora of ports that it uses.

    5.  I added an INBOUND Rule to ALLOW Ports 80 and 9000 through the Windows Firewall.

    6.  SSL (https://) is NOT available right now, because it has not been installed

    7.  I have tools called Remote Access Manager, and File Server Resource Manager - I also have placed the Event Viewer, the Performance Monitor, and the Component Services on the Desktop and pinned IIS Manager to the Taskbar.

    8.  I have also tried to figure out how to fix this problem  - There is Little to NONE documentation for IIS 10.0, so  most of what I have read concerns older versions (7.0, 7.5, 8.0) and these are different in some ways.  I have even tried to go to YouTube and while it has the instructions for setting UP IIS, it does not seem to offer any configuration help - and Yes, I have googled my heart out on this,

Can someone give me a hand here??  I have Screenshots of the Router/modem as well, so you can see it.

    Thanks Team,

    Brian

  4. Good Evening All:

Decided this month to finally bite the bullet and upgrade to the Xbox One:  Got the 500 GB System Bundle (Halo Master Chief Collection).  I Bought the Following Games and Accessories:

Games:  Halo, Master Chief Collection (Bundled with System)

                   NHL 15 (EA Sports)

                   NBA Live 14

Forsa Motorsport 5: (Game of The Year Edition)

                   Ryse: Son of Rome

                   Call of Duty: Ghosts

    Accessories: Xbox One Kinect Sensor

Xbox One Charge Cable and Battery

Now, I have to figure out if I am going to have problems on my network with this new machine.  I am upgrading to save me the agony of not being able to play a lot of the newer titles on the machine.  Forsa Motorsport 5 is one of my favorites, and I have Forsa 4 for the 360, so I probably will get Forsa 6  - NHL 15 is for my Hockey Fix, and NBA 14 for the basketball nut in me.  I have Call of Duty Games, so Ghosts was a no-brainer, and Ryse: Son of Rome was recommended by a friend, so I should have a lot of fun with this!

I get the system on Friday, so I am READY:  If there are any of you that may play on xbox live, let me know ;)

  5. Hello All:

Also, there may be drivers or programs that are not compatible NOW, but as Win 10 starts rolling out, they may add drivers for Win 10 that are not available now.  I have a unique dilemma that my roomie and I are trying to solve.  He is running Windows Vista, and I am not sure whether windows 7 or 10 will RUN on his machine, which is a Dell Inspiron 537 Desktop.

I would WAIT - Its NOT urgent that people go right to 10  - but for those running older computers like my roomie, he will have to either upgrade his desktop or go to his laptop, which is running windows 7 - 8/8.1 and 10 MAY be too much of a change for him, but vista is too old and not really feasible to run much longer.

    Brian

  6. Hang in there TT - I also have been having problems with my neck, Back, shoulders, and head, because of my posture - I am in PT now to help with this, and I feel better each time I go - My back has been cracking each time too hehehhe :D

    Take Care :)

    Brian

  7. You can, and probably SHOULD wait to download Win 10 - The reason is due to the fact that we are all running at LEAST Windows 7, and it is not really known whether drivers for some of devices that are running on win 7 will be compatible with it.  Additionally, there may be some drivers that may not be compatible with 7 or 8.1, and even now, with my 8.1 laptop, there are devices that appear to be non-compatible, because it will say that something appears to be incompatible.

Add  the fact that Windows 10 will REMOVE specific functions as well:  Such as Media Center, Windows Media Player, and the fact that Updates for 10 cannot be delayed for Home users. We are not sure what 10 will do, but I would not jump into a 10 upgrade right off, because there are things you may lose, and it's just too new.

  8. Good Morning Everyone:

I have been a Windows user for a long time, Prior to that, I had Dos, and Apple II Computers.  I recently updated my laptop to a Windows 8.1 machine.

We all know that there is a way to access safemode from Windows 7 machines.  However, Windows 8 machines have a crazy way to access safe mode - you can't just tap 'f8' anymore - there is a much harder way to get to the boot menu and safemode with Windows 8/8.1.

I am going to show you how to put the 'f8' key function back for Windows 8/8.1 machines.

FIRST STEP:  ACCESS YOUR COMMAND PROMPT

    1.  Press Windows Key +S - This opens the search box on the right side of the Start Screen.

    2.  Type 'cmd' (w/o the quotes) and it will come up.

    3.  RIGHT CLICK the command prompt option, and select 'Run as Administrator'

    4.  The command prompt window will open and it will say "Administrator: Command Prompt" in the Title Bar.

SECOND STEP:  TYPE THE FOLLOWING LINE

    bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy

    5.  Press Enter

    6.  The computer will say "Operation Completed Successfully

    7.  REBOOT TO TEST:  Press Windows Key +C to Bring up Charms Bar.  Click Power - Select "Shutdown and Restart"  Allow the computer to Restart.  When the computer restarts, tap 'f8' and keep tapping as you would for a Windows 7 entry into Safe Mode.  If done right, you should see a Windows 8.1 Advanced Options Menu, and you should now be able to select the Safe Mode Options you want.

    8.  Until Changed, you will now be able to access the Advanced Options Menu with Windows 8/8.1 by tapping 'f8' repeatedly.

    9.  To return to the Standard (Windows 8/8.1) way of accessing Safe Mode w/o f8:  Repeat steps 1-3, and when the 'Administrator: Command Prompt" window opens again, type the following line

bcdedit /set bootmenupolicy standard  <Press Enter> The computer will say "Operation Completed Successfully"

  9. I have heard that Windows 10 may go the way of the Subscription, even though the article that Chuck posted says that Windows 10 will be free to those who have Windows 8/8.1 - I wish that the program would be FREE and the updates - Paying for the use of the software every year can be a financial burden to those who have limited incomes (Like me)  Buying windows PRO/ULTIMATE is not cheap, but windows 10 should be affordable, and you should be able to buy it and have a license that does NOT need to be renewed, because you bought the software ONCE - this is what they should do ;)

    Brian

  10. Chuck:

Thank You for your advice  - will take it into serious consideration - It's been a while since I was actually doing Malware Removal Training at Geeks to Go, and I had to leave because of personal issues, but wanted to make sure that I had my facts right..........This New PC is the BEST I have owned to DATE - with 6GB and a TON of Hard Drive Space, and a LARGE Monitor, I should be all set ;D

Thank You, My friend, for all your help - also to the others who have helped me as well: Will keep you advised as I continue to work with my new PC ;D

    Brian

  11. Chuck:

I have a couple of questions:

    1.  If I have MBAM Premium, I KNOW that is an Antispyware application, and should not run along side AVAST 2015, but should I also DISABLE MS Security Essentils?  This thing had MSSE when I turned her on, and I am thinking of just running ONE or the other, but not sure if MBAM Premium can handle the AV portion, but she CAN stop you from running to harmful sites and stop malicious programs.

    2.  What would you recommend I do for protection?  I will take all suggestions I can get on this one, as I want to make sure I am not having any problems.  I am leaning towards MBAM all the way.

  12. Good Evening Everyone!

My New PC arrived yesterday afternoon, and she is a DELL Studio XPS 435 MT - She was running Vista Ultimate, and I was LUCKY, because my cousin reloaded the whole OS, and then ran the Windows 7 Ultimate (64 Bit) Install for me - I was happy to find the 7 Ultimate upgrade package in my new box. so, I am fully legal on my new PC, and I also took the unprecedented step of upgrading all the way to MBAM Premium, so that I will be protected from a bunch of threats online, and also running avast as well.

The Monitor is a Dell Model 2408wfpb - so now, I am using a 24 inch monitor and this is COOL :D

    OS: 7  Ultimate (64 GB)

    Memory: 6.00 GB

    Drives: (C:) 500 GB (416 GB Free)

                (D:) 500 GB (435 GB Free)

    Processor: Intel i7 940 @2.93 GHTZ

Nic Cards:  1 is able to do GB internet, the other is wireless

All in all, a GREAT Machine - I may have questions about a couple things for someone like Pete :)  We shall see ;)

  13. Hi Brian

    Just a question

Why not just bite the bullet ! and go for win 8.1 ?

I like win 7 too, still have it on 2 laptops with it installed, brought myself a new desktop #All in one HP# came with win 8 upgraded to 8.1 still did not like the desktop found a free program to give me back the good old start Menu so its looks like win 7 on start up but gives you the choice of using "Metro" in win 8.1.

Gives you all the upgrades of win 8.1 but looks and feels like win 7.

Apon saying this I now wonder why I ever tried to test out Win 10 on my main pc when I already have the start menu back on win 8.1.

    Regards

    WW

    Good Morning WW:

The Problem is that the machine I will get will mostlikely NOT be able to support Windows 8.1:  I have all of the media for EVERY VERSION OF WINDOWS #except 8/8.1# and what I want to do is to take the machine that has 2 EMPTY hard drives, load it with VISTA #Because the machine will have the original media - it came with Vista Originally# and then upgrade it to 7 Pro.  My question is:

Is there a way to get a key for windows 7, or is there a way to transfer this version on my current machine over to the new one.  I think the newer machine may be slower, or a little older, but I will know when I get it.

I NEED to be able to run this new one legally.

    Brian

  14. Hello Whitewolf:

Brian here:  Instead of trying to install Windows 10 from install media on a partition, try running a windows 10 Virtual Machine on Windows 8.1.

(This will make it so that if there is a problem with the install, running it in a VM will make it easier to remove Windows 10 - If you install it to a partition, you may foul up windows 8, or whatever primary OS you are running - a VM, in my opinion is a safer bet)

    Good Luck!

    Brian

  15. Good Morning Everyone:

I have just been offered a newer Dell Desktop PC from my cousin, which I accepted last weekend.  I will receive it sometime during the Thanksgiving Holiday.  It has 2 500 GB Hard Drives (I believe SSD's, Not sure though)  It also has original disks for Windows Vista - I want to UPGRADE that to 7 Pro when the machine lands here.

My cousin will replace the current Hard Drives with 2 BRAND NEW 500 GB Drives, and I will have all of the drivers and whatever I need, BUT:  Since I do not own multiple Win7 Product codes for more then the number of machines I own, I am wondering how I can purchase a new Product Key for   Windows 7 Pro, and if so, how much it would cost me?

Any Ideas would be helpful, as most of the limited research I have done seems to point to Windows 8, and I DO NOT want 8 on this machine - I could get specs after the machine is here if that would help.  I want ALL My Machines running Pro Versions, because I have to connect to each computer I own, and others on occasion.

It should be noted, that I DO HAVE all of the Windows Versions from work (because we made ISO's from my downloads) but I want to get the KEY I need - There is NO Intention here of being illegal - I just need a place to get legit keys ;)

    Brian

  16. Pete:

Thanks again My Friend, I will Look Into this the next time I am in the Building - I would have to be in the building to see if this would work, but At LEAST it sounds like there may be a workaround for these issues. As Said Before, I am hesitant to install an XP Virtual Machine because there are NO UPDATES, and because we have 2 webservers connected to the network in our basement - I will look into this and inform my family of this information.

    BT **IS** The BEST!!!!!!
