  1. Yeah I have been keeping an eye on the curiosity rover site and checking for new pics. They are still testing systems (supposed to be testing the rock vaporizing laser today) . Wish they would hurry up and finish and get moving. The Glenelg site looks very interesting. From the satellite image it looks very interesting. Perhaps a dry lakebed with a shore line, an inflow with delta and two different terrains on the shore http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/multimedia/pia16065b.html
  2. Ditto that. Hard to believe TechTV and the CFH boards were so far in the past.
  3. Very interesting. The spiral formations are intriguing. I can think of several ways in which they could have formed. Hope the Mars Science Laboratory / Curiosity rover makes it there safely. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/index.html We will know on Aug 05/06 http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/msl/news/msl20120626.html Landing is supposed to be here 'Mount Sharp' Inside Gale Crater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gale_(crater)

Saw your thread on G4. The ranks grow thinner, RIP Marty. Did not see this coming so soon.
  5. I dunno, looks like a Tie Fighter to me, Oh Yoda, wookie hairy......
  6. 1. Multiple antimalware / antivirus /anti spyware is not necessary, and can in fact lower your actual protection. 2. Spybot S&D is no longer recommended. It has known conflicts with many antivirus and anti malware programs (including Avast) which can cause problems from very slow boot and very slow / blocked internet pages and worse. I advise going into spybot and disabling the protections it has (internet control panel lock, IE protection, tea timer) and then uninstall it. IT has already damaged your avast install by blocking the webrep bho O2 - BHO: (no name) - {318A227B-5E9F-45b
  7. Are yoiu talking a netbook? Whatever, I would also check in BIOS and look for two options. One is "Enable legacy USB support" and the other is "allow booting from usb device"
  8. Damn, had completely forgotton about those. Much faster than more complex word processors like word. I bet more people would use them if they knew that they existed.
  9. Finding out how rare this is makes me realize just how hard a task it is to detect alien planets orbiting other stars by the transit method. For every one they do detect each year there must be hundreds that just passed at the wrong angle or when we were not looking.
  10. Basically it refers to the size of the data packet that the CPU can handle. In 32 bit (X86) systems, the processor handles data in chunks of 4 Bytes (32 bits) at a time. Each instruction set or chunk of data can have no more than 32 characters. This also limits the number of memory addresses etc. With a 64 bit processor, each chunk of data is 64 characters. This allows for a significantly larger number of memory addresses, faster processing and transfer of data (almost twice as much data per CPU cycle) Now a 64 bit processor can handle 32 bit data, but not the other way around.

Hi Marty, good to hear from you. Getting hot here in Texas (highs in the 90s). Good to see you are still around. Things are slow here, and at G4. Life is getting slow.

Yeah, you just have to tweak 7 a bit to make it more classic and user friendly., I do not like how hard it is to disable hover mouse though.

Looks like there is an increased probability of a major quake on New Zealand's north island. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10807316 Many times the stress on the rocks causes magnetic and electrical field effects which result in mysterious lights and in some individuals hallucinations just prior to a major quake. Or it could just be mass hysteria or too many sheep and not enough human contact.
  14. Yeah, I am trying hard not to over do it. I try to do minor stretching before getting out of bed and the throughout the day gentle stretches until it just barely hurts. Still feels stiff and aches a lot. But hey it sure is a lot better than breaking it. I use a little muscle rub with menthol and methyl salicylate when it needs "limbering" and when it really hurts three advil and two extra strenght tylenol square it away. Still regret not being able to run in the morning. Thinking of making some Gazpacho, it is a tad warm today. Grilling weather too, Did a propane exchange ($14.99) since t
  15. Easter was not happy. I slipped and sprained my ankle. My ankle is mostly healed, but I have mild tendonitis in the Achilles now; a constant ache, especially if I bend my foot so that it stretches or compresses the achilles tendon. Today we went to a neighborhood art fest / artist sale in the park. I bought my wife a silver and turquoise bracelet and a matching one for her mother (mother in laws day coming up). Then we made a batch of home made chili verde (roasted tomatillos and jalapenos, cilantro stems and all, and garlic and cumin blended to a smooth sauce) and a batch of red salsa (t
  16. Just buy a wifi router In each computer, right click "My Computer" choose properties => computer name => change and give them all the same network (Room222 for example)apply and restart. Now go to the folders you want shared on each computer, right click and choose sharing and security , choose the permissions (read only, read / write.., full...) that you want to give oher computers on the network. Or you can just go to my network places, and under common tasks choose set up a home / small office network and follow the prompts and let windows guide you through everything.
  17. Albertsons market has bone in pork sirloin roasts for 99 cents a pound. I bought a five pounder, injected it with Mojo Crillollo and Adobe seasoning and made pot roast with potatoes and carrots yesterday. Made extra carrots for the dogs. Today I took some leftover pork and made Pork Carnitas. Cut it thin, added a touch of water and liquid smoke and reheated it, then sauteed some bell pepper, onion, jalapeno , and garlic. Put in flour tortillas, with grated white cheddar cheese, cilantro, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and some hot sauce. Very tasty. Joined a new "dog behavior and traini

Hi marty. YOu can get a "slim" dvd drive if that is what you are asking, or get a USB one. http://www.google.com/search?q=slim+dvd+drive&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1020&bih=566&tbm=shop&prmd=imvns&tbs=cat:377,pdtr0:731232%7C731233&ei=_bslT57dM8WqsQL099WMAg&ved=0CJgCEMEJKAE http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=slim+dvd+drive&hl=en&biw=1020&bih=566&prmd=imvns&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=4968329554833005145&sa=X&ei=_bslT57dM8WqsQL099WMAg&ved=0CJ0BEPMCMAA Or are you talking about one of those mini disks? If so the normal drive
  20. Okay, for some reason Chrome works better with the flash player built into Shockwave player than the Flashplayer most people use. You could try uninstalling adobe flash player and downloading Adobe Shockwave flash player. That worked for my wife when she had problems with chrome and facebook.
  21. Have you tried emptying cache and cookies? I really can't tell from the video what your problem is, do you mean the page going blank? Sounds like an ad server / blocked ad issue. Do you have no problems if another browser such as Firefox or Maxthon or Opera or IE is used?
  22. I would use TESTDISK to check for and recover the partition table and Master File Table. From there the drive should be as it was before this problem. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
  23. Darn and I got 1.6.0_29 OOps, make that 1.6.0_30 it just updated.

What , trying to get one of the last copies before Window 8 comes out?
  25. I think I am uninstalling it. I never use it. I did however run across another browser listed in PC mags best free software 2011 http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2381528,00.asp 43. Maxthon http://www.maxthon.com/ Windows | Mobile Maxthon uses two Web-rendering engines (Trident like IE, and WebKit like Safari and Chrome) so you never have to worry about not viewing a Web page properly. Add to that fast performance, multi-touch support, integrated tools like an ad blocker and RSS reader, and syncing of your settings with the Android version, and you've got a freebie worth a look.
