  1. Let us know which specific programs and folders you are having a problem with if safe mode does not solve the problem It may be that there is an issue of a shared file/folder or one used by more than one application.
  2. My congratulations also. Time sure has flown by .

    Car Help!

The first thing I always do when I buy a vehicle is go and buy the Chiltons Repair manual for it. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_par...da/protege.html The Haynes will do , but I find the Chiltons to be more inclusive and understandable . Generally you can find them for a lot less than that price at an autoparts store or halfpricebooks. These are invaluable both to let you know maintenance schedules and locations of things like your fuse box, but also for being able to do it yourself and troubleshoot an problem. I would go with a bad fuse or lightbulb being the most likely as well as ea

Give it time marty. They are switching software again this week. Not sure what they are going with ; I don't think they even really know . First they said V Bulletin then they said Jive http://www.jivesoftware.com/ When they do, expect to have to empty temp internet files and delete their cookies and if you have an auto login setup like in firefox where it remembers the username and password since the fields will be different you will probably have to delete that, login and have it remember then new login. Not to mention learning a new version of fake html / BB Code .
  5. Reminds me of my recent adventure with DirectTV. Had a "searching for signal" on the box but everything looked okay so I did the recommended trouble shooting. Unplug box and wait five minutes. Plug in and let it acquire signal . => NO GO Searching for signal. Power off, open slot, remove card, press reset button, insert card and power on. => NO GO Searching for signal. Got out my sat finder signal meter. Getting voltage from box, no signal from Dish. Test at dish, nothing. Replace all coax from box to dish. Try again, no signal from disk at box, signal at disk and voltage at dish, bu
  6. Hi Dave. That is what you get with those cheap three ply boards, cracks. I thought your sister was in Arizona and you were in Canada. That sure is a long way to go to use a computer; they must be rare up there. Sounds like you have a real nice build now. Marsh was talking about trying to get in touch with you. I'll tell him you are back .
  7. While 192 is by far the most common first octet for an internal network, there are others which are allowed er. 127.0.0.1 - loopback address (Although the whole 127.0.0.0 - 127.255.255.255 range is really unusable) 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 - Class A non-routable 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 - Class B non-routable 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 - Class C non-routable 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.255 - Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) Class B, and it's a Windows thing. You will be assigned an address in this range on Win2k and above DHCP clients that can't locate a DHCP server. http://
  8. Here in Dallas a couple years ago they finished building a new major interchange called the Dallas High Five Before the final ramps were even completed they started getting cracks in the decks of the first ramps opened. They say there is nothing to worry about, that the bridge is still sound , and they just paved over the surface with asphalt so people would stop calling in to report that the bridge had cracks in it.
  9. Hit it with a hammer, if that does not work get a bigger hammer; if it breaks it was probably defective and should have been replaced anyhow. My OL does stuff like that all to often; missed the step on the front porch and broke three bones in her foot. I always wear shoes when outside, and at least solid soled slippers when inside. I also learned a long time ago to shuffle when it is dark not walk fast without looking. Get some Doctors Best Strontium Bone Builder , it will make the bone mend in half the time and make is stronger than before. http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c...d=24
  10. Still waiting to find out what this file is win323k.sys But yes, it could well be a RAM problem. While most RAM is backwards compatible it is generally recommended that you 1. Do not mix different speed RAM. 2. Do not go more than one RAM speed over. So if you are supposed to be using DDR2 4200, you could go with 5300, but going up to 6400 is not recommended. IE, running DDR2 5300 on the 4200 bus is copacetic, but trying to run 6400 that slow is likely to become unstable.
  11. XP gets blue screens , they are called stop errors. It is just that the default behavior is not to show you a BSOD, just to mysteriously restart. But if you disable the restart on system failure and enable the admin alert option in startup and recovery section then you get them. I guess that if you did a hot reboot instead of a shutdown there may be some way that the second OS would influence windows .
  12. That is why I still use window units. Even if one fails , the others will keep the house comfortable and you can move em around as needed. Having been through no AC when the power fails a number of times, I would definitely not put all my eggs in one basket (central) . Of course there is always the option of a hotel I guess.
  13. See if you can find this file and right click and choose properties win323k.sys I do not think win323k.sys is a valid windows file . win32k.sys is, but that sounds like a trojan trying to fool you into thinking it is a windows file. Given the errors I would guess you have a rootkit infection. Might want to try posting a hijackthis log on the security board and link to this thread too. Other than that I would say it is probably a bad RAM or Video card memory, or a problem with antivirus or firewall . Sometimes it can be a RAM timing issue if you have an option in BIOS of optimal and sync, try
  14. I normally just hide the shortcut arrow and then create shortcuts to the true file and put that in all the other folders. But the saved search is a neat way to organize things in virtual folders.
  15. First off, it is better to add more RAM than to reduce memory usage. XP has a very powerful memory manager; I think the easiest way to visualize it is to think that it treats RAM and SWAP file as two portions of the same thing, memory ; one being fast and one slow. The reality is that the XP memory manager lets each program think that it has a total of 4GB of memory addresses and can have any addresses it likes . Then it takes these "virtual" memory addresses and remaps them on the fly to real addresses. This way two applications , hardware or software , can think that they are being assign
  16. Congratulations and Happy Birthday Jeff; hope you have a good year and hope your college plans are on track.
  17. Once they get you cleaned , make sure to uninstall all older Java Runtime Environment and get the latest (1.6.01) from Sun Java. Also, delete that snake oil certificate . If I remember correctly, this is a JS downloader trojan ,So make sure you clean all temp internet files too.

    Toogle

At first I thought it was an actual image search engine, like google images. But then I tried one and found out what it did. I guess it is neat in its own way. Kind of like thinking up obscene variants on Harry Potter titles like Harry Potter and The Prisoners of Ass Cabin.

First time I had a car stolen, I spent hours with friends cruising the seamier parts of the city, checking out motel and apartment parking lots for it. It turned out to be a total waste of time. Finally, from what I later pieced together, the original thieves (who had probably been using it as a disposable vehicle for drug running or dealing ) parked it in a seedy neighborhood, and when some black kids started stripping it, gave the cops an anonymous tip as to its whereabouts. Needless to say, the cops towed the now stripped car to the impound lot and notified me, but declined to try to ar
  20. Hope you catch the thief joe ! Sounds good, but how about some strobes and the theme music to "Who will stop the rain" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078490/ Complete with the M16 gunfire of course. Side note; I knew someone who had their home burglar alarm, instead of beeping or setting off a siren to annoy neighbors, just played the sound of a glock pistol having a round chambered , followed by a mossberg 12 guage riot gun doing likewise, then a whispered voice says "Stay down and stay here, I don't want to shoot you by mistake." He got burgled once , but nothing was taken. By the time the p

Well, here is my take on it. First, government is no longer focused on serving the public. It is a bureaucracy bent on preserving itself and to do so it wants to appear efficient. Thus they tout that they are not raising taxes; but this means that services cannot be funded (which they explain that these are just liberal tax and spend programs which should never have been present). Secondly, there is the economy. No it is not in the dumps, but the cost of living has been skyrocketing while for the poorer workers salaries have not. Gas costs more ( double what it was back in 2000 at least) mil
  22. http://journals.aol.com/cutefacedblonde/sn...--snakeoil.com/ I am going to suggest you try the Kaspersky online scanner http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner Click on the thing with the magnifying glass at upper left. It will only identify (not remove) the infection but it will help the guys in the security and hijack forum to help you.
  23. Most of the time when this happens it is not firefox , it is one of the add-ons / extensions you have installed. I would suggest going to tools/ add-ons and disable them all. Then close and restart firefox (or you could just go to start/ programs / mozilla fire fox/ firefox safe mode - which will run it with the add-ons all disabled ) and see if this solves the problem. If it does you can re enable the add-ons one at a time until you find the guilty culprit. It may take some time, if you have a lot of them. Or go to tools/ add-ons / check for updates. It is probable that you have an add-on
  24. Its always reassuring to hear from you missy and Pro Driver (Anthony) , reminds us all of the old days.
  25. I have two sheds out back, they have been burgled a couple times. But what the fools do not know is that they are jammed full of total crap you couldn't sell at a yard sale and have sharp screws through the walls and floors at places you would not expect and probably would not notice by the light of a flashlight if they thought to bring one. That and sharp peices of scrap sheetmetal and broken mirrors and window panes stacked in between. Both times about a third to half the stuff had been pulled out to see if there was anything of value or pawnable in there before they got cut up enough to
