What is weird is that after scanning the coupon they still have a person verify you put it in the hole. Why not fully automate it and have the reader integrated into the acceptance slot just like a bill reader or check scanner at an atm . After all the machine already has a bill reader for payment. Do they actually fear that I will steal the coupon and not put it in the bin so I can use it again???? I guess that a lot of stores are still working out the bugs. We had one store experiment with giving you a UPC scanner gun with your cart. First you scan your "preferred shopper card" then You sc

Yeah; here the registration is about $50 a year (more or less depending on weight, whether or not your county collects the extra bridge and highway maintenance fee, etc) then there is inspection (about $40 and you pay pass or fail); on top of that you have to have a valid insurance card (and now they have a state maintained database to verify you are paid up and still valid policy, which you are charged a fee as part of your insurance renewal). They do have the "back to school tax holiday" where certain items (clothes , school supplies ) are tax exempt for three days every August. Food is a b

Well we have a May 9 election There are two major city charter amendments The first proposition seeks to prohibit Dallas from owning a convention center hotel – something the city is today in the process of trying to build. The second proposition aims to all but require Dallas to conduct a citywide referendum each time the city wants to give $1 million or more in subsidies to private developers of hotels, condominiums and retail facilities. Under the amendment, 500 Dallas voters would have to sign a petition to call a citywide referendum on any applicable subsidy. Then we have City Council el

Glad Texas does not have an Income tax and it would require a constitutional amendment by voters to allow one. But we do have high property tax in my opinion ( my taxes are almost as much as my mortgage was fifteen years ago and they keep raising my appraisal); and a 7.5% sales tax. But neither of those requires any real paperwork; just write a check to the county for property tax ; and sales tax takes care of itself. This was the first year in a long time that we had to file using the long form; my OL got a 1099 for "income non employee / other" for money she got for cosmetics testing and a

http://keepass.info/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/keepass/ Has long been one of my recommended free software choices. You can generate and save passwords, and of course save the associated URL and username. All is encrypted and you need to have the program running and enter the master password (you can save this as a key file on a usb jump drive or cdr if you prefer and have a huge long random one or you can save it to the registry so that it is not required ; or keep it in the registry and save your database to a removable drive ). Very useful. Never tried keepassx Might have to try it o

Actually the surpluses began during the Oil Bust days; and the fear that Oil revenue would be worse in days to come was one factor in establishing the rainy day fund. Of course the Texas Constitution is really well written and does a good job of restricting what the legislature and governor and State can do without prior approval by the people. It is normal to have several bond issue approvals on the ballot, along with funding approvals for high dollar items and any change in state agencies. The secretary of State even maintains a list online (nothing there just now) http://www.sos.state.tx.u

Well I have been using online banking since they first told me I could have it for free. Within a couple of months I caught a banking error (they charged me a $20 fee they should not have ). Printing out the transactions list I went to the bank and got my money back. I soon began with the online bill pay (hey since I have free online banking and free bill pay that saves me the cost of stamps and they have a guaranteed two business day on most of the payees ). Easy to do when I go through the daily mail , login and pay the bills as they arrive. I still do not go fully paperless; I like havin

Vista Error - Can Someone Explain?
Pete_C replied to rv56's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Given the reference to a prolonged shut down I would wonder if you have a weak motherboard battery (cmos retention) and when off too long some of the entries get forgotten and when you boot the setup is not what it was when windows was installed (kind of like when you change the bios from plug and play os to non plug and play os so IRQs are different) . Replace cmos battery. -
Not Able To Acess The Internet Browser

How large is your temp internet files folder? It sounds like you have not enough space to cache the entire thing . -
Whether you can use an external (USB or ESATA) drive as your C: boot drive depends on the motherboard. Does it have an option in the boot order to choose USB or ESATA? If so , yes you can buy a corresponding drive and install windows there (Note you will probably wind up doing the press F6 to load extra drivers and load the appropriate controller drivers before the install cd will be able to see the external drive and install to it). Alternatively you could do as matt suggested (probably by far the easier approach) and buy an external enclosure and a new drive and put your old drive in the ext

Specific keys or the whole thing? Are you an admin account? It can be done with a vbscript using regini.exe Have you had a malware expert check your hijackthis log to ensure this is not the result of a virus? You can also try the instructions here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 But this is the normal method http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/reset-th...-in-windows-xp/ using subinacl.exe and a file you create called reset.cmd

Well, I tried the "free electronic filing" several times and each time something went wrong and they failed to notify me until later and then said that to refile I had to pay the full price of using their service. Things like somehow my OLs SSN was wrong (even though I triple checked and it was right when I filed; or the address changed; or .......) Anyhow, after hearing that Treasury Sec Geitner used it and that is how he ended up owing $10,000 in back taxes I decided that the software is just not ready yet. I did however avail myself of the IRS online editable PDF where you can fill in you

I try to. Once in a while I forget that they are having one when it is just a small local thing (have to remember May is city council elections and whether the mayor should be able to issue $500 million in bonds to build a city owned hotel or if any city projects over $100 million should require voter approval before they can start). But if I know it is happening and I can make it I do.

Well they have to do it sometime and there is a possibility of people not being able to access things when they are working on the system. They had the same problem here with the food stamps debit card once. It would have been nice if they had warned everyone that there could be delays and complications when they did the transition; and maybe scheduled it for THE WEEK BEFORE rather than when everyone is expecting a new deposit.

Windows Host Process (rundll32) Has Stopped Working
Pete_C replied to pianodude76's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Is this by any chance the HP Pavillion dv9000 that comes with 64bit windows and not 32bit? In msconfig on the startup tab is it listed to launch anything? Are those things working? Have you been to HP and gotten the correct drivers for your sound card and reinstalled them? (not the ones from the chipset manufacturer; they have to be the modified ones for the HP blessed firmware). -

Good point Marty. One of the jobs of government is (should be) to assess the total social cost of things and spend money appropriately. Spending a little extra money to help install efficient heating and cooling and insulation for those who would not ordinarily install it because they cannot afford to can actually save all taxpayers money by decreasing the need for electricity so that new plants do not need to be built and decreasing air pollution thus reducing health related costs and lowering their cost of insurance in the long run. All too often knee jerk reactions and misinformation lea

State still presumably has a budget surplus since they have a big "rainy day fund" (technically the Emergency Economic Stabilization Fund estabilshed in 1988 by Democratic governor Marl White and a Constitutional ammendment approved by voters and had a value of 1.1 Billion in 2003 ) which has very strict restrictions on how it can be invested (only in Aa1 or better bonds, the second highest possible). So yes, we can go ahead and fund things now even when sales tax revenues are short because we the voters created this reserve twenty years ago. Side note the House and Senate both passed the 2

Here in Texas, there is not really any such thing as seasonal. We have two short growing seasons spring and fall separated by a hot dry summer and winter that isn't bad but can have enough frosts to kill plants. But the only thing which slows roadbuilding and construction in general is when it is to wet to pour concrete. No, I discount seasonality as an issue here. And like I said, more road repair than I can recall seeing and projects which had languished for the last year are suddenly going full steam ahead. Just hope it does not raise the price of gas to much.

Yes, many people villify Bill Gates; but the reality is that he is a realist who succeeded at what he wanted to do far beyond anyone's wildest dreams. He understood not only computers but people, his company did not design the best operating system; they designed one which people would embrace and decided to worry about improving it later. He makes a great point; whether you blame political correctness or religious conservatives sheltering their children from things which they view as dangerous to their beliefs; one of the biggest problems American children face is a warped view of reality an
