  1. Hi Sidekickcat,

Those photos are beautiful!!!! I love the cliffs--we have sand dunes. Couldn't resist sharing a website of our lighthouse (make sure you click the "additional photos links"). It was featured on The History Channel's "Haunted Lighthouses" (My Grandmother knew the "ghost" well--before he was a ghost, that is.) And we currently have a woman lightkeeper. Don't know how to link, and if anyone wants to fix this to a link, feel free!, but website is

    And Hi Macmarauder,

I read a very interesting article about "why so many SUVs are in ditches during bad weather"---seems the manufacturers oversell them with images of the vehicles flying through snowdrifts. Well, with 4wheel drive, they do GO better, but, they don't STOP any better than a car, actually worse because they are so heavy. In the commercials, the SUVs are apparently equipped with special tires, and of course driven by stuntmen--and you never see them stop!! In my area, SUV and Minivan drivers drive like idiots.

  2. My thought is, even if you do answer incorrectly, its ok. I wouldn't mind if someone answered incorrectly to my answer, as long as in the end i get what i want out of my computer....I mean, experience is only the amount of mistakens you have committed in the past, right?

And if there ever is an "incorrect answer", someone more experienced jumps in for the rescue! Liz

  3. Hi Tg1911,

Just a sidenote to let you know we have a 5+ year old Epson440. It is overworked (2 kids in school and son prints out game instructions and cheats constantly) and it works just as well as it did brand new. Read somewhere (Consumer Reports, or PCmagazine I Think) that the Epson ink is a "bargain" also. An Epson is a great choice. Liz

  4. Hi Macmarauder,

Is that snow or fog??? This year Michigan made national news for a couple of 100+car pileups, once for snow and once for fog. Drivers compared it to driving into a solid white wall.

    And Hi TheTerrorist_75,

Those snowbanks are crazy!! Luckily we haven't had snow that bad in a few years We only got about 6-7 footers this year, but usually they get that high, then melt, then build up again, then melt, etc. This year they stayed.

On a Bright Side Note---I saw a ROBIN today!! Poor thing was just standing in the bare patch above an old septic tank, looking around, not even attempting hop. Need to Google to find out what else they eat, because they sure won't find any worms yet!

And the sun has been out for the past 3 days--still cold but the white stuff is melting. Everyone goes outside and shields their eyes like a bunch of vampires. Liz

  5. Hi Sceeter33,

You heard right! I lurked on G4 boards for a couple of years but never joined due to the "war conditions" over there--We have nitrous oxide pumped in here regularly (thanks, macmarauder) to keep things peaceful! You should recognize quite a few folks here that are generous and knowledgable enough to donate time and advice to many places.. Liz

  6. Well, I went to Staples and bought....100 CDRs. You should have seen son shake his head and say, "ohhhh mommmmm". (Its not like they'll spoil, kids use them and they were on sale!) One step closer to doing this!

    Hi Robroy,

You mentioned copying Updates--Not worried about Mcafee Updates because it was just installed last month, but where do you find the Microsoft Updates? I know I see them on "add/remove programs" but son says, "no mom, they're in a folder" Turns out he knows a lot more that I thought he did--started talking about converting his music to MP3 format to copy and queries (me-??) and such.

    Hi Sidekickcat,

Thanks for the method on Favorites--that IS one area that I do use alot!!! I depend on "my sites" living on the drop down bar until Son does housecleaning, and poof, they're gone.

    Thanks!! Liz

  7. Hi Sidekickcat,

Sounds like our area newspaper!! The Chronicle (or Comical as we refer to it) has a wonderful habit of printing only a portion of an article, leaving off in mid sentence or even mid word, and doesn't reprint themThe following day!! They say "Oh, you got the early edition, the afternoon edition is correct", Like I'm going to go out and buy another newspaper that contains "almost" the same exact thing???? (I would if the article was important to me, of course)

Our little weekly town paper, the Beacon is wonderfully written and edited--supplying only about 7000 people in our 2 neighboring small towns, it can be biased and letters to editor are sometimes ignored, but at least one can read an entire story! And if there is a goof, it is reprinted the following week.

I read somewhere that "multiple 5-15 minute" exercise breaks are just as good as one 30 minute break a day, in fact, I think the multiple sessions are better, seems like it would perk up your metabolism. You go girl! (and hubby, too!) Liz

  8. I hope you get it solved. One way is to get your kid to switch to a different game, one that does work.

    God bless everyone.

well, I'd actually prefer him to be on his schoolwork, walking the dog, cleaning his bedroom, going outside or going out with friends rather than playing computer games!!! B) Liz

  9. [quote name=macmarauder' date='Mar 22 2005,

i wander how the flight attendants would react to your carry on being a parachute. that sounds like something from a hidden camera show.

Well, nowadays, you probably wouldn't get past security, but that sure makes me wish TriggerHappyTV (British version) was still on Comedy Central.....Liz

  10. Hi All,

Well, I'm not the only one dealing with this glitch. Found Starcraft Website and lurked on the Forums. Folks are having same problems as I am with Norton Firewall and Mcafee AV, starting March 19. The advice given so far is turn AVs off!

Received an Email from Mcafee and there were a couple of suggestions I'm not sure I should do---

    1) RIGHT-CLICK on the clock in the lower right corner of the screen.

    2) Click on "Task Manager".

    3) Under the "Process" tab, RIGHT-CLICK on the "MCVSESCN.EXE" you wish to terminate.

    4) Choose "End Process"

**From google, this is the email scanner. Folks have had problems with this, altho my email works fine. Supposed to be fixed soon per mcafee. Altho they say the "main scanner" is supposed to catch anything from email, I kinda like the extra protection.

    1) Right-click on the McAfee 'M' icon by your system clock.

    2) Click on "VirusScan", click on "Options".

    3) Click "Advanced".

    3) In the 'File Types to Scan' box, select "Program files and documents only".

    4) Click the "Ok" button, then "Ok" again.

**I have it set to scan all files, sometimes the kids and their friends download some pretty wacky stuff.....

What do you folks think?? Thanks, Liz

  11. Hi Sidekickcat,

Yeah, I'm like your neighbor--once in a while one of the kid's "new friends" will actually ASK for a drink or something and I almost feel insulted, then introduce them to my kitchen!

And yes, smokers do go through the same as dieters!! Last time I tried to quit was when Son first started driving---WRONG time to quit!! I'm such a worrywart. I just hate the thought of them driving-its so dangerous! Bought both a Tracfone "for emergencies only" for Christmas (daughter quite doesn't understand that "emergency only" concept....) but what a piece of mind that is!

And as Barb wrote, walking is great!! Walking is just as good for you as running, just takes longer and its actually gentler on the bones. Make sure your posture is good when walking, though. My dog usually gets me out, but this winter has been too cold for the both of us!! Looking forward to the thaw.

    And thanks, Robroy and Barb,

Your methods of cold turkey is exactly what I was thinking would work the best! This "weaning" thing isn't working. Hubby used Wellbrutin, but I don't like crutches and am a HORRIBLE medicine taker--I forget to take the stuff! Son's Morris Dance Troupe went to Denmark 2 years ago and I'm still kicking myself for lighting up after the 10 hour plane ride--worst was over by then! If you read the above note, just need to find a stress free time to do this (think kids will give up drivers licenses??)!

    Liz

  12. Hi TheTerrorist 75,

You beat me by about 50 inches of that white stuff--thats wild!, and you're about the same latitude as me!!! (NY, right?) I know upstate and PA gets "Michigan's leftovers", which usually ends up messy. Don't you hate the term "Lake Effect Snow"? Sun came out today, you should see it tomorrow!! Liz

  13. Hi All,

Ok, to take this to a different "path". I......have never backed up (yeah, I know--shame on me.) Anyways, in preparation of SP2, it is in the list of "prep directions". I have a Dell 4550 XP Home edition SP1 and paid an extra $125 to have a tech set it up (after the old Gateway, worth every penny).

    1. I read you must back up "all important data"-- what is "important"? Kids do have quite the music file on Winamp and daughter has journalism projects on Word--I know that's important to them--I use an old fashioned file cabinet.

    2. I swear I remember reading how to back up data in my XP Dummies book, but I can't find it now (I remember a passage about "keep feeding it floppies or cds or something....)

    3. If I can back up using CDs or Floppies, (have a CD drive, a CD burner drive and a floppy drive) any estimate on how many discs to have on hand? Nearest retailer for that stuff is 40 minutes away (rural Michigan here) Have a 60 gigawatt hard drive--according to last defrag, I think it was about 35% full.

    4. Can I do this within XP Home or is a "gadget" necessary?

    5. And the easiest, least technical method? I am a pathetic Noob and my Geek Nephew moved to Tennessee--I lost my helper.

    6. And advice!!! (telling me it isn't necessary would be lovely.....)

    7. Ok, start laughing, I don't mind! :D Thanks, Liz
