My thought was after removing sp2(temporarily), you then would be able to remove IE8. Then after reinstalling sp2, you could then reinstall ie8. Just a thought.

did you try uninstalling sp2 before uninstalling ie8

according to hjt, it is running from C:\program files\internet explorer\
I was a little unclear in my post. this was originally happening with IE7. After installing IE8 it was acting the same way.

I have a friend who's computer all of the sudden lost her ie link. It was missing out of the programs menu. When I tried to make a link to it, I got an error about the file not being there. When I navigate to program files\internet explorer, iexplore.exe is not there(visually). when we run iexplore from the run menu it works. I can use either "iexplore.exe" or "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe". Using that logic, the executable is there. I upgraded from version 7 to 8. everything works, but the executable is half missing. Any thoughts?
I have tried unhiding files, that does not help. Also when I do a windows search, it does not find it.

You have an option in Outlook to export(backup) everything up to a .pst file. This file can be used to import all your data back into 2003.

We recommend avg free to most our clients(we just bought some oem norton 2009 av), mainly because it has most all features needed and it is an easy quick install. I am not convinced the paid products are much if any better, they all suck. I have not noticed any issues with AVG till today. We had AVG 8.5 installed with Vista Premium Sp1. While running a scan using mbam the computer was really unresponsive. I noticed the AVG resident shield process that you mentioned was pegging the cpu. I'm sure this was because every file the mbam was scanning was being also scanned in real time using AVG. I made a point of watching the process manager while clicking in directories, I noticed the avg resident shield process is kind of a cpu hog(as you stated). I am not sure that is such a horrible thing. Most of the time on the computer we are not running multiple scans or bouncing around in different directories. My opinion on it is in the middle, I don't know :-|

when you open folders it is scanning for bad files in that directory

Even being a Celeron, with that much higher clock speed, it will be faster then the P4. for what your doing a PII would probably be just fine.

their should be documentation that shows you how to log into the router and change settings. typically you will just enter in your web browser http://192.168.1.1 . You will then be prompted to enter the user name and password. Then once you are logged in the settings are easy to change.

just make sure the ssid is different on both routers. The default for a linksys is "linksys". Change it to something unique. If both routers are using the default ssid, "linksys" and different passwords, the computer will have problems connecting at both locations.

I thought about it before posting. I answered it as a technical courtesy. I also mentioned only do it if your parents give it the ok.

if they are both linksys routers, you may want to change the default "ssid". This way saved passwords won't conflict.

Without installing software on his computer, you are really making this hard :-) . I don't think it is possible.

this would work. install the server on his computer and the viewer on yours.
This info should be used for ethical reasons. Since you sound like a minor, I would make sure your parents think it is a good idea.

My first thing to rule out is the amount of RAM installed. at a minimum you need to be running 512MB. With today's programs seeming to be ram hungry, 1024MB is probably more appropriate

yep, you are running as a full admin. Just for kicks, do you have an xp machine to see if you can get that to network? That would rule out the mac as being the issue.

I was not sure if running a program as admin was the same as logging in as an admin then running it. I am at a loss to why you are having issues.

all a switch does is causes a quick short. By shorting the two wires, it is the same as pressing the button of the switch.

That probably gives you the same privileges, but just to be sure try logging in as your admin to run it
