  1. you could try resetting IE to factory defaults

also make sure IE is not using a proxy. Sometimes Spyware will make changes to that setting. If that is the case, you may want to post in the malware removal section.

    1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options(you can also get there through the control panel), click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.

    2. Under Proxy server, make sure use a proxy server is unchecked

  2. this past three days my shop has been hammered by clients who got infected with "antivirus system pro". I have never seen an infection so prevalent. It seems to be infecting people who are very careful on the web. As of now, I have not been having any luck with successfully removing it. Has anyone else seen alot of this infection lately?

  3. as TT mentioned. I think the linux partitions may me the issue. You should not have to format it, but you do have to delete all the linux partitions before the xp installer will work properly. It may be the same with Vista also.

As to ubuntu not working, that is odd. since none of the discs will run, could your optical drive be bad?

    edit add later//

I do not think it is a driver issue. Both Vista and Ubuntu have good SATA support.
