No you cant do a repair install through a usb-ide adapter. Did you try this method?

their is a chance you computer is running 64 bit vista as opposed to 32 bit vista. That may be causing the incompatibility. I would rule that out first.

I have seen three computers in a short period with the same symptoms. After trying to log into any account, the same thing happens. The login process starts then immediately the account logs out. I have a hunch this issue has been discussed in the malware community's back rooms. I would love any information you malware experts could enlighten me with.

I have had three computers in the last month with that same issue. I am pretty certain it is the same spyware infection causing the damage. No matter what account you would log into, including the administrator account, it would start to log in, then immediately log out. I have even pulled the hard drives out and tried to clean them using a usb-ide adapter with no luck. I had to reload all three of them. I would love to hear a solution(short of reloading or running a repair install) to this issue.

I did it like this and the bios nor the windows disk still does not see my drive. The bios saw my drive before....

If it is not even showing up at the hardware level(in the bios), this does not seem to be nothing to do with sata drivers. Are you using opt1 as shown in the diagram?
Their is a chance your new drive is bad. I get DOA drives all the time. For testing purposes, you should see if it works with your usb-to-sata adapter.

Windows XP cant see SATA hard drives(controllers) by default. Most modern motherboards will allow the XP installer to access the drives in IDE mode. I am not sure yours can do that. You may want to look in the bios for an option like that.
You may have to load the sata drivers manually. Here are the via floppy sata drivers you need.

if what you described worked for you. You might be on to something. It does not make sense to why that worked, but their is so much I don't know. I would definitely try your advice.

If I understand correctly it seems to be be fully booting. The problem occurs when logging in. That to me seems to rule out the mbr as the issue. Just my opinion :-)

I am not a big fan of repair installs, but in your case this may be the easiest route. This should fix windows without damaging any of your data. How to do a repair install.
Assuming this completes correctly, you should be able to easily transfer your files. After doing that, you will probably want to format(erase) and do a clean install.

I have had that same loop thing happen several times after removing spyware. I was not able to figure out a way to fix it. I ended up having to reload the operating system on the computer.
I think you first priority would be getting the data off. You could do this with a software or a hardware method.
Hardware method: buy a sata to usb adapter. This will turn the hard drive in the broken computer into a usb hard drive. This will then allow you to get the data off plugging it into another computer using usb.

Malwarebytes has a paid version which has realtime protection. I installed it on a client machine once, I have not heard back, so it must be working well.

My experience when I can't get malwarebytes to install is usually do to a root kit. 9 out of 10 times if I run combofix first it will remove the root kit, then malwarebytes will install fine.

is it an option to connect it to a pc with a parallel port then use printer sharing?

open up a command line and see if your pings are steady
ping google.com -t
try rebooting in safemode with networking and try the same thing. See if their are any differences. This should rule out software causes.
My hunch is the problem is with your modem, or more likely outside the modem with comcast.

kings can only jump diagonal(all directions), so I think your method of 9 would be the limit.

My son was messing around trying to see how many pieces could be jumped in checkers consecutively with a king. He was able to set the checkers up with two rows of 3 and one row of 2, for a grand total of 8 pieces that could be jumped. Are their any other configurations that would allow for more then a 8 checker jump?

I am sure the AMD is slower on head to head benchmarks, but for what you are doing, it has plenty of power. I would support AMD. Imagine if they went out of business, then we would be paying a small fortune for the intel procs. Plus you are saving money.

spinrite runs from a live disc. So long as your computer can boot from a cdrom it will work. The only down side it its cost.

You do not need to create a raid device. The problem is the Windows installer does not know how to use your sata controller. That is why you have to load the sata drivers during the install. One method would be to temporarily install a floppy drive. The second method would be to incorporate the sata drivers in a new xp install cd. This second method would allow you to install without a floppy drive.
