  1. Twinkies and root beer DR. CHARLES M. WOOD II Guest Columnist The Logan Banner A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer. Then he started out on his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old man. The man was sitting on a park bench feeding some pigeons. The little boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie. The old man gratefully accepted it a
  2. I finally found the settings that I needed to get the thumbnail to show in all My Picture folders and all sub folders. First you have to open the folder, right click a blank spot and click properties and make sure the "enable thumbnails and archive boxes are checked and read only box is unchecked". All files transfered from a cd will be read only, so they must be unchecked. Do this for all folders and sub folders containing pictures. Then follow these steps. If you cannot use "Customize this folder" check properties to be sure "read only" is unchecked. Graphic Thumbnail Preview in Windows 98
  3. Comments made in the year 1955: "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20." "Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2000 will only buy a used one." "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous." "Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?" "If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store." "When I first started driving, who would have thoug
  4. You could be right. In my area the house's were pretty well in line with what they sold. Still---it does give you a reference point to start comparing.
  5. I found this site that lets you see what houses are selling for in your area. If you are thinking about buying or selling or just curious, it will give you an idea without going thru a realtor first. Just point, click and drag the map any way you want. I found it interesting.
  6. Dear Sir, I am writing in response to your request for additional information. In block number three of the accident reporting form, I put “poor planning†as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more and I trust that the following details are sufficient: I am a bricklayer by trade. On the day of the accident, I was working alone on the roof of a new six-story building. When I completed my work, I discovered that I had about 500 pounds of bricks left over. Rather than carry the bricks down by hand I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley, whic
  7. JDoors and TT_75 thanks for the input. I thought what both of you have said might be part of my problem. I just had a slight problem that was just bugging me and was wondering if I could find an answer. Since I am disabled I have nothing to do except play around with my computer. I used to tinker with cars, back when all you needed was a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Now you have to have too many degrees before you can even open the hood. I have been thinking of updating but I will have to wait until I can find something I can afford. I only paid about $30 for this Dell Millennia from E-B
  8. Thanks JDoors Did what you said and set all my picture folders to "enable thumbnail view". I then opened windows options, view tab and clicked "Like current folder" buttons and then rebooted as sometimes windows 98se will not make changes until a reboot. Still nothing. I went back and clicked the "reset all folders" buttton and rebooted. Still no thumbnail option in view. Since it is working in the Main Folder, but not in the sub folders, it has to be a registry glich---right?
  9. Thanks sethook As I explained above that was one of the things I tried. I have searched Google and Microsoft and have tried all the options I have found, but so far nothing works. I have made a backup of my registry and have tried about three registry fixes for putting the Thumbnail option in the View Option. But they did not work either, so I have used the backup to revert my registry back to orginal settings. I have the Tumbnail option in View when I open "My Documents Folder", but not for any of my picture folders within "My Documents". I think I am missing a setting in the registry or I h
  10. Thanks TT7_5 I had done that. It still will not put thumbnail option in View. I even did a MS search and copied a new set of Pictures to a temp folder, deleteed the old folder and renamed the temp to the original name, followed the above directions, but still no option in the view dropdown. I have followed every direction I can find, but still can not get it to work.
  11. In My Docs-view-thumbnails the few pics I have there all show as thumbnails. For some reason I have lost the ability to view pictures as thumbnails in my sub folders, which I had before. The sub folders in My Docs where I have several folders of family pictures will not give me the thumbnail option in View. I have googled this and have tried everything that you normally do, like right click folder or inside folder, go to property and click on enable thumbnails. I close out and reboot and make sure sub folder is set to view as web page, but there is still no thumbnail in view. I think I am m
  12. Hi Preston, I always clear the recycle bin and temp and cookies after a session. I have got it running good now. I was able to scandisk both Standard and Thorough in safe mode. I have also defraged and ran all spyware and anti-virus. I am now waiting for the new HD to arrive so I can transfer everything before it does go bad. Thanks for the comments. GO LADY VOLS!!!
  13. Making progress, but it is slow. Finished running scandisk Thorough this morning. It fixed some errors, but said there was over 2 million bytes in bad clusters. Thank goodness I have another HD on the way to replace it. While it was running last night my son was able to get on the internet and transfer the pictures of his art to a server on a website so he can download them later. He was also able to transfer some other documents and cleared up a lot of space. I think he was able to transfer most of his important data. I am running diskkeeper lite now. It will take a long time to finish I know
  14. Tried burning a couple of CD's but it kept saying there was an error and then it would eject the CD. When I looked at them on my computer it said they were full, but nothing would show and I could not burn anything to them from my computer. I did finally get into safe mode and ran scandisk Standard. It fixed some errors and said it had over 95,000 bytes in bad clusters. I tried a Thorough scan and let it run all night. This morning I had this: " ScandSKW caused a general prtection fault in Module KANL.386.exe at 0002:00002618" "Explore caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.DLL at 016
  15. Thanks for respondind JDoors. I was able to do that already, but I still can not do anything else. As I said before, I have not tried to delete any files from his folders as I do not know what they are. I do know a lot of them are pictures of art he has painted on canvas and I will have to wait for him to say what needs to go.
  16. My sons Gateway computer running W98se with a Maxtor 40 gig HD has just started to show this message. "You have run out of disk space on drive c." It then says to run disk cleanup, but it will not run. I can not do a scandisk or a defrag or get into safe mode. I have not tried to delete any of his files until he comes in from work. All he has is a white screen with icons and if you click on a program the icon disappears. I think he had some bad sectors on his HD. I have run Maxtor PowerMax 4.21 and it says there are some errors. I believe his HD is shot. Is it still possible to save his file
  17. I have a medical site that I have to Login to obtain information. When I enter my password in FF 1.5 there is no submit(Go) button to click. The button shows in Opera and IE, but I do not want to use IE or Opera. I had somethig like this a long time ago, but can not remember what I did to correct it. I'm running W98se and FF 1.5. I found another link to my medical site and now the submit button works. Don't know what was wrong unless it was a bad link in FF.
  18. I have been having problems getting wmv to play in FF 1.5 using Windows Media Player and have had to use Real Player for those files. I have just found this extension for FireFox 1.5 called MediaPlayerConnectivity and have now uninstalled Real Player. http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?s...yerConnectivity Hope this helps others with same problem. Sorry, but I have been gone and just saw that I had put FF 1.05 instead of FF 1.5.
  19. Dear Louanne Ellie Mae, I'm writing this letter slow because I know you can't read fast. We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen within 20 miles from your home, so we moved. I won't be able to send you the address because the last West Virginia family that lived here took the house numbers when they moved so that they wouldn't have to change their address. This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine. I'm not sure it works so well though. Last week I put a load in and pulled the chain and haven't seen them since. T
  20. I have a comcast e-mail address and have the spam filter set. But for the last 2 months I still average 4-5 spam mail a day. I keep clicking "the spam button" but I can't tell that it recognize's the spam as it still is the same misspelled junk that Hotmail & Yahoo automatically reject. How long does it take Comcast to stop letting spam into the inbox??
  21. I agree Barb. It would not have been long before someone took offense to the "precieved"slander of one of their "beliefs". There are other places for those kind of discussions. Lets keep this place a family place and all get along.
  22. Shirley and Marcy... A Mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him ... because he was a "big" boy. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe. So, she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, if she would please follow her son to school in the mornings ... staying at a distance, of course ... so he probably wouldn't notice her. Mrs. Goodnest said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it being a good way for them to get some exercise in
  23. I remember bread came in waxed paper (if store bought) and milk had the cream on top and you had to shake the glass bottle to mix it. You split your own wood for the the stove. You sold popbottles back to the stores for a penny apiece to get spending money. As for the movies-----a dime to enter, a nickle for pop (medium size now), a nickle for popcorn(medium size now), a nickle for a candy bar( large size now)---and for all that you got two movies, selective shorts, newsreel, previews of coming attractions and cartoons and it all changed every two days. The bathroom was outside, central heat w
  24. Oh!!! You mean "Just use common sense and some maturity". Use G4 as a reference as to "how not to act". Correct?
