  1. My son and his wife run a business dealing with the public from their home and use their computer for both business and home. They are runing Wme on a HP Pavilion XE783. They have not had any problems running Wme. His wife wants to upgrade to Wxp home. She wants to go to a local repair shop that has just opened here in their small town and let them wipe the HD and install Wxp Home on it. Since their files are going to have to be backed up anyway, I suggested they buy another HD from ebay and buy a copy of Wxp home/sp2 and install it themselves so they would have the codes and keys if somethin
  2. Problem solved for now. It's so funny that I may post it in the comedy club or I could be having slow brain function due to so many mini-strokes. After I figured out what I wasn't doing I just laughed and now everything is working fine. Any way the problem was, I only have one monitor and when I hooked up the other computer to try the new bios, I forgot to hook up the mouse and keyboard to the other computer. When I can save up enough money I will try to upgrade to XP.
  3. OK, I got a new BIOS Chip and installed it. I turned on the power and the Bios information came on the screen and said there was a "cmos checksum error- defaults loaded". Press F1 to continue or Del to go to setup. Pressed F1 and nothing happened. Pressed Del and nothing happened. Powered down and replaced battery with a new one. Got same screen. Pressing F1 or DEl still nothing happens. I am on the learn by the seat of your pants program, so if someone can tell me what to do next I would appreciate it.
  4. Two West Virginia Redneck Kids, by the names of Isaac and Rachel, were stopped by a game warden recently with two ice chests of fish, leaving the River. The game warden asked Isaac and Rachel, "Do you kids have a license to catch those fish? I’ll need to see that license now please. If you don’t have a license I’ll need to do my job and write you a ticket of which you’ll have to go to court and pay a fine to the judge. Do the two of you understand this? Rachel replied, "Naw, we ain't got no license.†Then Isaac said, “These here are our pet fish." "Pet fish?" replied the game warde
  5. Thanks!! I'll look into biosman and see if they have one for my board.
  6. I tried to flash my bios and failed. Where is a good place to buy a new bios chip for a DEll Millennia with a DR737 motherboard?
  7. The History of a Lie First somebody told It, Then the room wouldn’t hold It, So the busy tongues rolled It Till they got It outside; Then the crowd came across It, And never once lost It, But tossed It and tossed It, Till It grew long and wide. This lie brought forth others, Evil sisters and, brothers, And fathers and mothers, A terrible crew, As headlong they hurried, The people they flurried And troubled and worried, As lies always d
  8. Well, I tried removing battery, then tried resetting Bios recovery jumper, then tried removing battery and resetting Bios recovery jumper. Nothing works so it looks like the Bios Flash did not work and I will now use it for parts. This is a Dell Millenna with a DR737 board. I got one just like it from E-Bay for nothing, which is what I am using now. I thought maybe I could flash one and if it worked I could do the other and then upgrade to XP home later. Thanks to everyone who replied and offered advice.
  9. Ran PC Pitstop test to see if I could someday upgrade to XP. It said I needed to just upgrade my bios. I ordered the upgrade from esupport and d/l it to a floppy per instructions. I followed all the instructions and when it made the backup, it ask me to press f1 to continue. I did and the screen went blank and after 10 minutes it was still blank so I shut it down. It will not reboot even with the w98se bootdisk. Luckily I had the same model computer I had just repaired so I can use it for the internet. Have I fried my bios in the other computer?
  10. If true, I sure would not want to run up on that thing. Enlarge the picture. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar.../606080402/1042

  12. The first "desert" should have two S's. Stuff Like this makes me glad english is my first language. Thanks Bubba Bob, I had an extra word in there that changed the meaning. I have removed it and now have changed the meaning again. Isn't english wonderful?? I see the Senate has passed an "English should be the official language" bill. But it has no teeth.
  13. 1) The farm was used to produce produce. 2) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse. 3) We must polish the Polish furniture. 4) He could lead if he would get the lead out. 5) The soldier decided to desert in the desert. 6) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present. 7) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes. 8) I did not object to the object. 9) They were too close to the door to close it. 10) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests Any more to add to the list?
  14. Ouch. That's gotta hurt you at the pump. OH WELL, Bubba Bob. How I can relate... My van is 16 yrs old and gas gauge stuck on full also. When I fill up at 350 miles I can actually go about 365-370 miles. When my son fills it up I never know how far I can go. I pull into Mapco at the front door to get a coke. I was going to fill up the next day when my check came in because I was only at 325 miles. I come out and van will not start. I think engine has got problems. I call tow truck and tell them exactly where I am at and the color of my van. Then later watch as the driver comes down street and

  16. Thanks TT-75 I thought I would be better off getting a better(newer) computer. I followed your advice from another post some time back and cleaned an old 15 gb hd and downloaded W98se and all updates on it as a back up. I got this computer from ebay for $60 counting shipping and it has been working fine. Maybe later I can luck up and find one with xp at a cheap price. Thanks again for replying.
  17. The computer is a Dell micron/millennia. The motherboard is a DR737.
  18. I know that I will have to update from W98se to Wxp some time in the future. I ran PC Pitstop and it said I need to upgrade my cpu from 450 mhz to 1000mhz and to install XP. Right now I believe that my computer is just at the minimum to run XP. This is all new to me and it will have to be done on a "as I can afford it plan". I have looked at some "800 mhz single slot" for around $50. My questions are these: 1- If I upgrade to say, 800mhz do I just plug it into the motherboard and that is all.? 2- Do I have to change the BIOS? 3- Is there anything else I will have to do? 4- Do I eventually go
  19. TT_75 everything is identical on both computers. Sethook you are right. It was a bad pin on the monitor cable. It was not bent, but it looks like it had broke off about halfway down. I could not pull it out and I could not see any part left in the socket of either computer, but I did round off the end where it was flat and it must be "just long enough" as it works now. I now have "red" back. Thanks to both of you.
  20. I have a Dell Micron Millennia Dr737 running W98se. I also have another exactly like it with a bad power supply. Today I replaced the power supply and hooked my monitor and keyboard to it to check it out. Used a HD that I had cloned as a backup. It was working fine. Just checked that it booted up and I had a desktop. So I shut down and rehooked my monitor and keyboard back up to the original computer. After restart I do not have any "Red Color" on the original computer. For instance, the fox in the Firefox Icon is a light brown(I belive as I am slightly color blind on light or dark colors).
  21. You all are welcome. Glad I could help. I can send pictures as attachments, so I don't know what they mean when they say you can't send pictures.
  22. Ok. The right click paste function works with Hotmail using Firefox, but still won't work with Yahoo. I have discovered that if I copy a text and then go to Yahoo mail and use "ctrl v" on the keyboard the text is inserted in the mail. Still would like to get the right click function back though. This is the work around from Yahoo. Bring up yahoo mail. OPTIONS>GENERAL PREFERENCES AND THEN SELECT THE BUTTON "COMPOSE MESSAGES AS PLAIN TEXT". Then click save. This will give you your cut n paste back. You will be able to send live links but not pictures. Hope this helps anybody else who mig

  24. My Daughter-in-law has lost the "paste" function in Yahoo mail using FireFox 1.5.01. She can paste if she uses IE. She doesn't like using IE. Anybody know what setting she needs to make in Fire Fox to get it working? Thanks
