  1. Here are two programs that are small and easy to use. 2. Thanks novi, This mouse only cost about $10 or $15. There was no cd with it. The web site says no driver is available. Guess it just uses a generic driver. Guess this computer doesn't like a usb drive left plugged in the computer. Thanks for the advice.
  3. Thanks jimras, I went to the bios and the only thing I saw was "Legacy USB Support" that was set to auto. Did not see anything relating to mouse. Thanks anyway.
  4. HP Pavilion XE783 WXP home SP3 FF 3.0.5 Hi Everyone. Just got back from spending Christmas with the grandchildren. They gave me a Gear Head mp2000wu wireless mouse for Christmas. This computer only has two usb ports. I use one for the printer and I have a 4-port usb hub hooked up to the other. Never had any problem using two or more ports at the same time on the hub. Last night I hooked up the wireless mouse and it worked fine. Nothing else is on the hub. I shut down normally and this morning when I booted up it went to the first screen that says: HP INVENT and would do nothing else. No beeps
  5. Themes: Walnut For Firefox 1.8.43 Extensions: Adblock Plus 1.0 All-in-one Gestures 0.19.1 ChromeEdit Plus 2.7.2 EbayNegs! 0.7 FEBE 6.0.3 Image Zoom 0.3.1 Nightly Tester Tools 2.0.2 Password Exporter 1.1 Print 0.3 So far the Bookmarks menu is still working right after I re-cloned the Hd.
  6. It's warns me -- and by "warns" I mean "displays an error and exits". AFAIK that's been the default behavior for years. I have at one time or other have clicked on the "X" instead of the "-" sign and then when I restart FF it says there is another FF running and to close it first. Pete_C's post explains why I have at times got that warning. Thanks Pete. However my original problem started after the computer had been off all night.
  7. I also like FF because I can customize it to my preferences which are most likely not the same as yours. I closed out a web page and then shut down the computer as I always do. Maybe it is a glitch or a bug in FF. So far everything is working fine. Thanks for the info.
  8. I don't know of anything that updated. This is the first time this has happened since I have been using FF. I'm sure someone, somewhere has had this problem and solved it. I have yet to find anything. Would like to understand the why and how of it though. Appreciate your tip and will keep it handy along with my cloned HD's. Thanks.
  9. I have fixed my problem but have not solved the "WHY" it happened or how to correct. I keep spare Cloned HD's that I clone every week or so in case I have a problem. I can not find anything to help me solve this problem even though I also posted on the MozillaZine forums and tried a search on their forums. Probably wasn't wording the search right. so I just cloned my spare Hd back to my main Hd and now the links and sub folders all open to the right side again.
  10. Windows XP Home SP3--Firefox 3.0.4 Last night when I turned off the computer everything was fine. This morning I turned on the computer and went to Firefox Bookmarks and clicked on the file for Newspapers. The folder where I have several links opened on the left side of the dropdown menu. It has always opened on the right side. I did a restore where I knew it was working and that seemed to fix the problem until I tried to open another newspaper and the folder opened on the left side again. IE favorites opens subfolders on the right side. Can anybody tell me how or what I need to reset so Firef
  11. Bubba Bob there was so much to digest standing on the porch in the cold that is is hard to remember everything. But depending on how and what I choose it could save me $20 or $30 dollars a month. Like I said in my edit above will have to wait and see the package.
  12. Thanks for replying Bubba Bob. Yes, it is their new fiber optic network. They will be signing up customers the 22nd of Dec. It sounds good with the phone, cable and internet from one source and the rebates for signing up. Will have to check the "Welcome Package" out when it arrives in the next few days. :) Forgot to say they will be sending me a modem to hookup and check their internet speed against comcast at the same time. Also the modem is mine free of charge as they will not be renting any equipment once it is in the house. Lot to check out.
  13. I just had a visit from a representative of AT&T informing me about their new Internet and TV service is starting in my city the end of this Dec. They said their service is faster and cheaper than Comcast. Also I could pick and pay for only the TV channels that I wanted. I am interested in saving any money that I can as I am on a fixed income, if I can maintain my current level of service. Do any of you have any information about AT&T's new cable service? Thanks.
  14. Priceless .. Billy Graham was returning to Charlotte after a speaking engagement and when his Plane arrived there was a limousine there to transport him to his home. As he prepared to get into the limo,he stopped and spoke to the driver. "You know" he said,"I am 87 years old and I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?" The driver said,"No problem. Have at it." Billy gets into the driver's seat and they head off down the highway. A short distance away sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap. The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55

  16. Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America, Kentuckians, Tennesseans and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as 'HILLBILLIES.' You must now refer to us as "APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS". And furthermore .... HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT WOMEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT: 1. She is not a 'BABE' or a 'CHICK' - She is a "BREASTED AMERICAN". 2. She is not a 'SCREAMER' or a 'MOANER' - She is 'VOCALLY APPRECIATIVE.' 3. She is not 'EASY' - She is 'HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE.' 4. She is not a 'DUMB BLONDE' - She is a 'LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY.' 5. She has
  17. I posted here "http://www.besttechie.net/forums/Browser-Web-Page-And-Fonts-To-Small-t14562.html" the problem I was having with Firefox after the crash. I used FEBE extension and saved all bookmarks, passwords, Themes and Extensions in a separate folder and uninstalled Firefox completely including the profile and by doing a search and using CCleaner. I then reinstalled Firefox 3.01 and added everything back, but still had the web and text size problem in Firefox and the shut down problem. I believe the firefox crash did something to create both problems, but I have not found anything yet. I thou
  18. What antivirus do you have and do you have its automatic updater turned on? This sounds like what happens with Mcafee Internet Security or Antivirus (although it could happen with any application with an automatic updater) when the updater checks for an update and is told to standby . It has set things in motion to receive the update and install it but for some reason (blocked by firewall, their server is busy or down, just dropped the connection...) it never gets it and is left standing by. Try disabling the updater and manually killing your antivirus and see if you can shut down. Hey e
  19. I have check their programs and updated everything that I could, like flash player, java, and others. Nothing in Device Manager has a yellow or an exclamation mark, so I guess everything is alright there. Just ran "sfc scannow" again, but it does not tell you if any files are bad or replaced. So I assume it is alright also. I shut down all startup programs in the Start Up Control Panel, but could not really tell if that made any difference as the shut down problem only happens after we have been surfing a while. They will have to use the Task Manager to shut down as I am leaving for home tom
  20. I use JKDefrag and I always clear my personal data in firefox when I shut down. I also use ccleaner. Just a habit I do when I log off. I did run Disk Clean and found a WebClient/Publisher that had not been cleaned. It is something she use's in her business. I think before I was not giving XP time to clear it's memory at shut down in the Task Manager. Trying to get G-Kids ready for school tomorrow(lol). Anyway it seems to shut down from Task Manager now the couple of times I tried it, but still won't from start.
  21. Thanks Guys, The last thing I downloaded was MS updates last Tuesday(1 or 2 critical and 2 software). I did not notice anything different. My son and his family came back from vacation that Friday and two adults and two children took over the computer. My son was the last one and he said all he did was open an advertisement from an auto parts house where he buys parts. He got up and I sat down and Firefox 3.01 crashed on me and I had to make a new profile and reinstall it to get it to work. After that was when I noticed it would not shut down every time you went to Start. I had erunt on here
  22. Thanks Sultan, I had not thought of doing shut down with task manager. Never too old to learn and I did learn something new today. That will work for a while until i can find out why they can't use the "Start-Turn off Computer" option. If I don't, her other family members will end up creating problems, I'm afraid. Any suggestion on the start problem?
  23. Dell Inspiron 530s Windows XP 3 Firefox 3.01 IE 7 Threat Fire BoClean PC-cillin This started a couple of days ago. When I first log on and the few startup programs load and the desktop appears, I can go to "start-turn off computer" and I get the menu with the 3 options. After we use the computer a while and then try to shut down by going to "start-turn off computer" we get an hour glass and computer will not shut down. we have to do a hard shut down. I have run all scans and everything comes back clean. I have run "scannow sfc" and it finished. What should I be looking for to correct this pr
  24. After starting and restarting several times the font size seems to be working in Tools-Options-Content-Default font-Advance in Firefox 3.01. Maybe I fix it or it corrected on it own.
  25. Thanks Belthesar, I was able to make everything bigger by going to Navigation Toolbar-View and using the zoom function. but I have to adjust it for every web page it seems. At least now I can read them. I had another problem trying to shut down. I went to start-turn off computer but no options came up. Just the hour glass and it froze. Doing a hard shut down a screen popped up and said the program was not running. I did a "scannow sfc" and it seems to have corrected that problem as I now have the shut down option menu. Computer was fine all week and I even installed MS updates Thursday even
