  10. Well, we just got the leftovers of what the midwest got. First one of the season It caught all the road crews with their pants down. People are driving like they never seen snow. My wife drives 50 miles to work. Unfortunatly, she's using my daughter's Neon instead of her truck. She did 3 doughnut just going down the side street Mark
  11. My cable co. is no better. For 2 straight weeks my download speed was slower than dial-up from 7:00 to noon. Support said nothing's wrong. They had me use their speedtest. Would'nt you know it, connection speed's perfect. Of course, 2 independent speedtest sites said otherwise. Out of the blue, things are back to normal Go figure Mark
  12. Thanks. I already did that. A camera store called me to verify a different shipping address than billing address. That's how I found out Luckily Neweegg won't ship to a different address or they'd have about a $1000 . They turnned it down. My bank said no other transaction were received. There was one site I tried to purchase from that I never used before. I probably should have done my homework better. Hopeully it's nipped in the bud Mark
  13. Well, I got hacked. Thankfully Newegg rejected the order and the other company called to verify an order. The sites I buy from are trusted and secure. I'm using Firefox for my browser. I have all the MS updates Trend-Micro is my Virus and firewall program, it is kept up to date. I'm on a cable connection using a Linksys router(3-4 yr. old). What are the best settings to secure my router? What other precautions should be addressed? Thanks Mark

  19. Thanks, I'll check them out. I also found a couple at Sourceforge.net. It's not real important to have, just something to mess around with Mark
  20. I remember the thread and the MS article JDoors mentioned. It was back in the old TTV days and if I remember correctly it was PeteC who posted the link to MS. I doubt if it's still archived, though Mark
  21. I'm in Ohio, it's been blowing pretty hard all day. My wife just informed me we lost 12 sections of fence and her garden shed Mark
  22. Does anyone have any recomendations for freeware/shareware messenger programs for a small office setup involving 2-3 computers? Thanks Mark
  23. This subject has been hotly debated for years. Both sides making good points. Pete, Rema, and Preston were always dead set against it. I do trust their opinions. Besides, programs like Mike Lins or codestuff are small and free so why not use them. Mark
  24. On this, I'm confused. Say you're slow-cooking some ribs. You might have your oven set under 300 degrees for hours. Now, why can't you set your oven to 300 degrees for a few hours to heat your house in an emergency? What's the difference? Do the ribs absorb the CO2 or something, making it safe to run the oven for cooking but not for heat? When the power goes out 'round here, and it goes at least once a month, I use the oven, set at a low temp, to keep from freezing to death. Should I put a slab of ribs in there first? Sounds good to me Mark
  25. Also, don't use your stove for a heater. We had one genius here actually use a charcoal grill. Make sure there's no birds nest in the heater flu, and clean the creosote out of the chimeney Mark
