  1. Yes. If you are harming yourself or others for this person out of "love" it may be unhealthy.
  2. Welcome back. I have attached anouther batch file that should hopefully delete the problemed file. YOU MUST RUN IT IN SAFE MODE Please download the attached file, and unzip it to your desktop. Boot into Safe Mode: Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. Once in safe mode, double click killfile.bat. It may not appear to do anything, just a box flash on the screen very quickly - that is normal. Once you have done this, reboot your computer normally, and see if the file h
  3. Thanks shanenin. I went into to BIOS last night to look around, and yes I saw that. I was going to come home today and see if it would help, but my step-dad had already called Dell and got the problem solved. He said they had him adjust the processor settings and the battery settings in the BIOS. I assuming this is something they did. Thanks jcl for the link too So I guess I can now say "problem resolved" Matt

    Congrats T0c!

I'd just like to say congratulations to tictoc5150 for becoming our newest Linux Expert! He certainly knows his stuff! As a staffer, he now gets all the BT employee benifits: paid vacations, the BT Health Care Plan, a private jet for use at any time, and a nice top floor executive office! Congrats t0c, Matt
  5. Yes, it is a Pentium M. But by the poor performance, shouldn't it "be needed"? Powerpoint alone can barely run. Is there a way to disable this "powering down" of the processor?
  6. Here's an odd issue I'm having with a Dell Inspiron 600m. The processor is supposed to be 1.4Ghz, which it what it shows in the Device Manager. However, under System Information, it shows the processor as ~598MHz. The reason I found this is because the computer is running extremely poorly (no theres no malware, its never been connected to the internet). When I saw what it said in system information is on the processor, I was very shocked. This would explain the poor behavior. But, it didn't make sense that this $2,000 laptop would have such a crappy processor. Any thoughts? Does system
  7. Alright Thacky, I attached a file to this post. Please download it and unzip it to your desktop. Double click findfile.bat. In a quick moment, notepad should open with a lot of text. Copy and paste the entire contents of that notepad in a reply please. Matt
  8. Hi Dave, I just saw this thread. Marcus came to the HJT section to have "unwanted items" removed from his HOST file. Nothing in his log showed malicoud, but I had him run HOSTER anyway. Other than a few scrap files, he was clean. Now seeing this, it looks like it should have been left alone (oops). Fortunately, this isn't too large of a problem. (I'm assuming MSAS placed thos in there, I don't know--I don't like or use the app). If so, it may just put them back. Matt

  10. Your system is clean, so I do not think your speed is due to a malware problem. About that alert, you need to run windows update (info provided below). The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again. Firefox- Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera is good as well. Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can

  15. Your log is clean, so you most likely have no malicous lines in your host file. However, to restore your Host file back to its original settings, follow these steps: Download the Hoster Here Please do not use program yet Unzip Hoster to your desktop Open up the Hoster program. Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled. Click back up Host files then click Restore orginal host files close program If you are still having problems, please post back with a new HJT log.
  16. What does mean? Because this popped up on my screen last week, and eversince my laptop has been running SLOW. Er.. what you quoted is an exact quote from the Commonly Recommended Software, Links, And Tips thread. I find it hard to believe that that pooped up on your system... Even still, with a slow running system, I'd post a log in the HJT area.. Matt
  17. Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall Download it. It will give you "full version" access for 14 days, then will revert back to free version. If while setup, you choose "advanced" mode, (this can also be changed after installation is complete) you will have 100% control of what programs go out, which come in, and what they are doing on your computer.
  18. One thing you can do is (this is gonna suck, but its the only way I can think of ATM) highlight each song (one at a time) on you one long wave length. Then, with one song highlighted, select, Edit > Split. Then go along and do the same steps for the rest of the songs. I can't think of any other way to manually or automatically seperate each song. Then go through and export each one (to select the one you want to export, just click within its wave length. Note: when you split each section, there will be blank or silent spaces before and after the cropping. Make sure to go through and ed
