I am also trying to test video using my desktop and the girlfriends laptop. I think my problems so far are firewall related (If I turn off firestarter I get the green light). My qnext ID is 165565, I am more than happy to test the video with you. I did get a chance to try the file trandsering (a 1 gig file (*.tgz to be exact) in about 12 minutes, not too bad in my opinion) mine is 167722, I can't find any one on the network (tried searching my number and yours..) will try after work..

windows 98 will run (poorly) so will red hat 6.0 and 6.3. both will swap out alot.. the issue now is a lot of distrobutions have upgraded to match hardware, and give all the fetures it can.. if you build a system from the ground up (like gentoo, linux from scratch, slackware, bsd, netbsd, freebsd) you have a good working system.. evil wm takes 32k to run an simple windows manager.. I have gentoo runnning on my xbox (64 megs ram with 24 taken for video) and 733 mhz celaron. it can be done.. just needs to be built or use an older version like red hat 6.3..

ok I have been playing with this alot.. http://haeger.homeip.net/webCDwriter/ it lets you share your linux cdburner on any system (with java that is) check it out... its short coming is no dvd support unless you pay.. but hay, this guy did some work...It may be worth the cost

hmm a few notes... all Linux distros have a package manager, Red hat uses APT or YUM , SUSE has YAST (think synaptic for yum) second, you will need an older distro with an updated kernel to get wifi support. try an older slackware or something. Puppy and DSL (damn small linux) should run, but installing new software is not what they are made to do, as they are live cd distros.. here is a write up about linux on old computer.. http://www.fraw.org.uk/pubs/ssp/ssp-01.html while there is a cool factor of getting that last bit of performance from an old system.. $300 is well spent on a newer mach

900 mhz phones can causse cross harmonic interferance with 2.4ghz. it's the reason the FCC started requiring wattage limits and frq regestering on both 2.4ghz and 900 mhz. 5.4ghz is out of range to interfer with either 900mhz or 2.4ghz (hence no regulation on power for 5.4) I have noticed that if its just wireless going out (not the cable ) then its most likely a power problem with the house (older house ) or older wireing (power) is emmiting noise in the 2.4ghz range. a spectrum ananlyer is the only thing that can tell you.. with my Linux system my wireless driver tells me my noise floor (if

if it is an OEM cd.. use the key on the sticker on the side (or call dell and they must replace the cd if they did not provide one) a non OEM cd will not accept an oem key.

according to the OEM license if you bought it with a pice of hardware and replace tha tpice of hardware .. then yes you lose your license.. reading here http://members.microsoft.com/partner/india...er/default.aspx would also tell you it is no longer leagal to buy an OEM version by buying just a harddrive, as an opend OEM pack can only be sold to another OEM builder that can be tracked that they did build a compleate systems that follows the OEM rules (relpace MD no license) I called MS today and got the answer that you will be directed to your OEM distribter if you replace the mother board an

These are good points.. I never pay anything for my OS (as I use Linux and my work buys my windows License for me) but with some systems the OS is no cheep cost atx-mini $89 30 gig hd $45 case $35 windows xp $150 (upgrade) as for Mac OS X, my upgrades cost me $25 (student.. always stay in one class to keep the discounts..at this rate it will take me 10 years to get my masters..:)0 it iratates me that if you pull the drive from said computer and move it to a difftent computer you loose the license to run the OS... (I guess this would mean for VMware also) I have yet to get 10 years out of any o

maybe I need something better to do, or this upset me a little. anyone who has delt with MS licensing (OR OTHER propritary licenses) find that the company and or the coustomers are always confised on this matter. in a artical I read http://www.theregister.com/2006/02/17/microsoft_oem_shocker/ Microsoft states that if you bought an OEM computer (dell, HP ect..) and you replace the mother board, you need a new license to run windws.. so this means that the licesnse you have is for that computer only and not for the software. meaning if your dell melts down.. and you build a new system you do no
