To clarify a bit. A member can delete posts if they have moderation authority at a forum. Staff, Managers, Moderators, and Admin members have the ability to delete posts.

You are being more than fair! $25 is a steal imho:-) If you want to hire a technician in my neck of the woods they charge $50-100 per hour. The hardest thing is saying no to people who want free technology help. Your time is valuable:-)

If you need to run your Ubuntu/Kubuntu box as root you can do this by entering this at a shell prompt: sudo passwd You will be prompted to enter a new Unix password. Now you can log-in as root user in X windows. I must stress that this something that you should not normally do as you can damage your unit running as root user. It is safer to run your Ubuntu/Kubuntu box as a regular user and grant yourself root privileges as needed.
