Hi Joe, I'm locking this thread as a violation of the TOU. TOU- Politics

Agreed. The text-based installer is perfect for lower memory units. It isn't as user friendly as the GUI version, but, it will ask you the same questions.

A 1 GHz cpu with 512 MB of RAM and a 16 GB HD is plenty for Ubuntu 8.04, marty. Sure you could partition the 16 GB HD, I would leave at least 8 GB for Ubuntu (if you're saving lots of media files add more space of course).
-
Ubuntu 8.04 is a long term support version ( supported until 2011) But, yeah, I'm like you I like to always run the latest and greatest.

Ubuntu 8.10 is due out this month, marty ( in 10 days). You could try an Ubuntu 8.10 live CD and see if that will boot-up your system. http://www.ubuntu.com/ Another option is to try to use the wubi install and have Ubuntu run within windows. That is a less invasive way to run Ubuntu.

Bummer! Lack of flash support is the reason why FreeBSD isn't my main desktop. Adobe has not ported flash to run natively on the BSDs. You can run windows flash using wine in the BSDs, but, I don't do windows:-)
-
Heh-heh, I like it:-)

So how do you really feel about Vista, marty? Sorry. Couldn't resist. I'm not a Windows user and haven't tried Vista, so I won't offer an opinion about the OS.

Adobe recently released an updated version of flash (version 10) for Linux. Updated my Slackware boxes last night. My FreeBSD 7.0 box still has linux-flash7, grrrrrrr.

A very beautiful picture, JSKY:-) It is cool and wet up here in Northern, B.C., Canada. It is just above freezing......I'll probably be putting on the snow tires later this month.

Happy Birthday:-)

I agree with TT_75, marty. Have you tried this mouse on another computer? If it doesn't function get a new mouse, they're relatively inexpensive. If it does work properly then maybe you have a PS/2 port problem ( or a driver issue). Good luck:-)

Gecko rules. That was an amazing performance by Michael Douglas.

Oops. As JDoors said, by all means fix the car. On the Interent it is difficult to determine if someone is serious. If you're serious about the trust issues with your gf, yeah, that is a problem. When you feel ready I would talk to her about it if you're certain she's cheating on you. Are you sure she's cheating? If she isn't cheating on you an accusation will seriously damage the relationship.
