  1. Thanks marty, I appreciate your help. Btw, you can order the newest version of Ubuntu for free:-) I've got a link you can use in the Linux forum:-) Thank you folks, it is good to know that my daughter's XP Pro unit isn't hooped.
  2. Heh-heh, yep, she smirks at me, Liz, when I go on and on about how much I love Linux. She loves everything about Microsoft. I won't be able to get her to join my cult:-)
  3. Thanks for the information marty and TT_75! I very much appreciate your help:-)
  4. Cool. Thanks, shanenin:-) That's good to know! My 12 year old hates Linux........go figure:-) Agreed. Winders should adopt a better file system, imho:-)
  5. Hi, I know a bit about Linux, but, I know jack about Windows. I've been working hard to maintain my daughter's Window's XP Pro box. Lately I've received a strange message when I try to defrag the unit. It says "Windows was unable to defrag some files on the HD" Should I be concerned about this? Is there anything I can do to defrag the files? Maybe I should just install Slack on the unit, lol. Thank you for any and all answers.

    Remember 9/11

Very well-said, my friend! We are all very lucky that there are people like you who are willing to put everything on the line when they go to work. We all owe you a debt Chappy for the selfless work that you do in keeping us safe! Thank you!! I will never forget 9/11 and those brave people who gave up everything.
  8. First of all I would like to apologize to you, xxkbxx. I have decided to open this thread again. I have done some investigating with the kind help of Honda Boy and shanenin. It does appear that if you have the licence and you have a Microsoft CD then you are allowed to do a repair re-install as PC repair shops do this. I went to the Microsoft site last night, but, could not find a link to where you could get a CD if you have a licence. Good luck with finding a CD. Microsoft does not like licences being switched from one computer to another so if you use the CD on the same computer as th

  10. It may be possible, but, it is not legal. At Besttechie.net we do not condone, promote the use of software that is not fully recognized as authentic by Microsoft. Please do not ask questions about obtaining software that may be less than legitimate. If you are getting a Microsoft CD without a license it is pirated software. I'm closing this thread.
  11. We miss him too in our neck of the woods, marty:-) My children loved his shows. The World has lost a great person.
  12. Yeah, Updating in Suse 10.1 is quite bad, however, it is an exceptional distro even if you can't update it. Hopefully Novell will get Yast updates working in Suse 10.2. The broken update functionality killed my interest in Suse. Suse has very good hardware detection especially in the area of wireless a buddy of mine tells me:-)
  13. Thanks sultan_emerr! I'm happy to hear that martymas is recovering well! Excellent news!

  15. I like the high work bench areas, shanenin:-) I also hate bending down to work on stuff, I'm tall, and like you that hurts my back. Very cool set-up:-)
  16. Congratulations, my friend!! Stick with it, robroy:-) I also was a smoker as a kid in my teens and early twenties. I quit 24 years ago. I still like the smell of people smoking though, I guess you never get rid of the craving.
