As you all know I have no idea unless you tell me step by step. and Oh..BTW.. I'm a girl.. it's pronounced My-Kal..lol Oops, sorry for the name mix-up. To open up synaptic click on Desktop---------->Administration---------------->Synaptic Package Manager You'll be asked for your root password. No problem, you're very welcome. Yes, the Red Hat Bible is excellent, I own an older version of that book for Red Hat 9. Fedora, Red Hat are basically the same distro so all of the commands will be virtually the same. That is a good buy.

In the lower right hand corner for Fedora Core 5 you should have four little mini boxes, these are virtual desktops, if you click on these boxes you will get another desktop that will pop-up where you can run applications. So you can run multiple applications over four desktops. When you minimized your program it may be there in the little box. If you click on the box that may bring back the application. You can also type Alt+F4 which can exit running applications. Edit: added later:-) Sometimes an application can also be mimimized onto your bottom or top task bar. Try clicking on the ba

Hey Bryan:-) We all go through periods where we get bored with surfing the same forums; it sounds like you're getting ready to head out and have some great adventures with traveling and experiencing life in the real world. Very cool, man! I hope that you have a good time. I also felt at a loss when I made the transition from high school to college as your world gets turned upside down. Enjoy your college days.

Nope, no partition that I know of, I was there when he legally cloned the system, marty:-) Our company spends thousands every year on a Microsoft site licence. He hooked up my desktop to his laptop and imported an IBM XP Pro disk image using an ethernet cable, it was quite cool to watch. My copy of XP is legal and will run windows update from Microsoft and stands up to Microsoft's occasional piracy checks. We'll see how the unit holds up:-)

If she surfs the web, you will be an all linux house in no time :-) Are you sure her computer does not have a recovery partition if windows messes on its self? You need to get or borrow an XP cd to use for yourself, but of course you will just use the licence that is already assigned to your machine. Heh-heh, yep, I think you're right (I'll probably be all Linux soon:-) She's always on MSN, youtube, but I do insist that she uses FF 1.5.0.7 so that is one saving grace.......ad aware picks up very little spyware when she uses FF. Nope, I don't have a recovery partition as a buddy of mine lega

you give her a choice? ... thats not very windows like.. Yep, she can use Winders or any flavour of Linux she wants.....but.....she loves the stuff from Redmond, lol If her Windows file system ever becomes totally corrupted then my house will be 100% Linux as I don't own a XP CD. She does like using my Debian box once in awhile as it is beside her unit.
