  1. ok, is your system 64 bit or 32 bit?

running 64 bit on a 32 bit system will have problems.

another thing, you say you are downloading, so that means you are using leaked versions of win7 that are not the gold version. that is another way of having problems. the win7 is coming out gold soon. the RC version is not the gold version, but a version that is released before the gold version, and the first gold releases will go to OEM venders. then the upgrades will come out next to the consumer and then the full retail versions will be out

  2. well, it has been bout a year now. i have used boot camp, slipstreamed my CORP XP PRO with SP2.

funny thing is i tend to use the mac more now. strange, it is accually easier than i thouhgt it would be. did take a little time to learn all the short cuts, but having to not have an anti virus program running has been the big change.

things are working out alot better. i have heard there will be a version of co pilot which is a mapping and gps program that right now for trucks on a pc will soon be available for mac.

so now that i have used it for a year now, i am thinking of converting my roomy to it and i think i should have gotten her daughter a mac book instead of the dell with xp in it.

thanks all for the help when i first got the mac book pro.

  3. if the hard drive was reformatted, then pretty much you are SOL.

now there is a program that is used by the law enforcement that i believe it can sort of get some info from reformatted hard drives. but it is very expensive,

and only available to the law enforcement agencies.

there is no program to recover files once the hard drive has been reformatted. if the files were just deleted then the answer would be yes.

  4. OK so what do I do with this .exe file? Do I install it?
Wait. The offical release need patching.

if you downloaded a .exe file you just double click on it. but, do not use the rtm file. XP SP3 is not ready for the public yet.

there are a few bugs in it. that is why it is delayed to the public. what you downloaded is a leaked version of the XP SP3 RTM, and it was released to the manufactures. but there are bugs in it. just like the vista service pack that was released to the public, it had problems with the drivers not being compatible.

that is the same problem now with the rtm.

if you decide to install it, do at your own risk. the official release is not expected til the end of may or the middle of june. that is when they expect to have the bugs worked out.

  5. looks like MS is taking another bad hit. sounds like they have some developers that are taking short cuts just to get a product out in time.

It's third-party drivers that are fault, isn't it? It's been known for at least a couple months that SP1 includes a kernel update (to synchronize with Server 2008) and that often means drivers need to be updated. It's not Microsoft's fault that other companies suck.

the fault is lying with the service pack adn drivers for prebuilt systems. they include the sigmatel audio, ac97 audio, and there aer others as well as the audigy sytems.

there are others hardware driver problems too. if you check out the links, adn there are links inside the articles, that tells the problem with the hardware drivers.

it has been bad enough that some PCs haev failoed to restart after the service pack install.

  6. from another board, i posted a message about the Vista SP1, and IMHO, do not download and install yet. there is a problem. alot of people are having a problelm with the service pack.

    here is what i posted,

    read before installing Vista SP1

here are a couple of links as to why you should not install the Vista SP1, adn it looks like Microsoft screwed up again.

    and this link from MS

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method5it is about the drivers that will cause a problem .

looks like MS is taking another bad hit. sounds like they have some developers that are taking short cuts just to get a product out in time.

so please do not install the service pack as of yet, unless you do not have any conflicts with drivers. do the homework first.

i am very disappointed with MS at this time, but hope they will get their act together.

so be warned, there are major problems

  7. right now, till the bugs are all worked out of vista, it would be a better idea to convert those PCs to XP. with the so called new security that was put into vista, and with it always asking if you want to do something. so if you can get ahold of a copy of XP and even more a corporate version, that would be the thing to do.

vista has its problems, and going to xp on those PCs would make it alot simpler, and give less headaches.

  8. The 57 and 58 may have the same element but I'm pretty sure the 57 has a flatter response across the mids. Live it would be impossible to tell them apart but recording the 58 to me anyway sound warmer. I have just started playing in a new band the lead singer she uses a 58 and the bass player/singer she uses a 57. I still like my pro 63 for micing my amp.

As for old home audio way back in the 80's I had a sweet Onkyo setup with some Bose 301's (the american ones). The saying was "no highs no lows then it must be Bose" but I absolutely loved them.

the only reason the 58 would sound warmer, is the ball with the extra windscreen. i even used them in recording also. but to the average ear, there is not a noticable differance.

i also worked on a recording we did for an event that we played at. it took a month and 2 4 track recorders to get the recording ready for air play by the local rock station to promote event. it was a street dance for railroad days in 1986.

  9. wellk maybe the Bose of today might, but th eBose 901s are the tops. they are a one of a kind speaker. they had i believe 9 or 12 speakers inside the cabnet. ofcourse though you needed something to add more low end. the one thing about bose was little low end.

now as for the SM57 and SM 58 microphones, i can tell you from experience, i have used them both.

i ran sound for a local rock band for 3 1/2 years. i used many differnat mics but found that the best for stage work is the sm57.

i used them on drums, the guitar amps, and even used them for vocals.

the only differance between the two was the 58 had the ball on the end. that was the only differance, they were the same elements inside.

now if you wanted a set of stereo speakers that kick major butt, the Cerwin-Vega D-9s. the power handling is over 350 watts. i bought mine in '88 and still use them. i now use them with a surround system, along with a pair of D-7s.

call me crazy but i know a little something about sound and music. i worked in a music store for 15 years as a technician.

when you buy speakers you have to look at a couple of things, first is the power output of the amp, and the total harmonic distortion rate.

also if the music you are playing has extra bass, it is wise to use a sub. but, the main problem with blowing speakers is distortion. also if the music was recorded at a very high level, that would increase the distortion, mainly in the bass, and will destroy any speaker.

what many did not realize is back in the 80s, KEnwood had the lowest distortion rate than any manufacture out there.

just an ideqa of the sound system i used, Peaavey Prtoject One system, with 3 CS-800 amps. two on the mains, tri amped,

had 4 EQ-27 eqs, three on the mains and one on the monitors.

and a peavey Mark IV 24 into 4 into 1 mixing console, in a built in road case.

  10. itunes does video, movies, tv shows, audio, podcast, audio books even PDFs. And lets you put them all in playlist.

i guess i will have to play with it. i have a large library of MP3s that i transfered from an external hard drive that i use for back up storage.

i tried to load multiple songs at once but i have not found how yet. guess i could try copy and paste multiple files to it. i will play with it more.
