  1. Well sir ... I took every thing apart including removing the mobo from the case.  I removed all the drives and what not.  Then I checked the cpu had a little too much grease so I clean it off.  The pins are flat on the cpu so nothing was bent.  I started it with just the cpu hooked up and it worked longer than before, then turned off.  I put in a memory stick in the first slot and it worked.  I added each part and checked to see if it worked each time and it did.  I don't know exactly what was wrong but it works now.   Thanks for reading my post.

  2. Howdy .... I'm upgrading a computer and after putting it all together I can't get the power to stay on.  I hit the power button and the fans spin for a few seconds and that's it.  I checked all my connections and they seem ok ... I have a cooler master 500w P/S I know works because I just pulled it from the machine I'm upgrading from.

    This is the mobo.

This is the CPU.  I checked my hookup to the case and it looks ok.

The cpu is plug into the mobo.  An in goes into the LGA socket only fits one way you can't put it in wrong.  I installed the memory 2 2GB DDR 3 memory sticks.  A PCI sound blaster card, and a pci-e IDE adapter.  I have a PNY GForce 210 in the pci-e video slot.  Not sure what is going on:( .... ah .... HELP!

  3. Hello ... I have this analog CH Products Virtual Pilot Pro and the analog CH Pedals. I'm using them with MS FS 2002. When I hook up my yoke and pedals to the game port windows XP Pro 32 bit see them, but the pedals won't function properly ... I can't calibrate them without getting an error. The yoke works fine, but not the pedals. So I got this USB / gameport adapter in the hopes I can get the rudders to function, but when I plug it in XP doesn't see it. Is there some kind of drive I need or something. I know the USB ports work because I have other things hooked up to them.

Anyone have any idea what I can do?

  4. I have this old Intel create and share webcam ... I think it's an 1.0 ... the software was copyrighted in 2000 ... intel no longer supports it and xp can't run it ... I did some searching and found this download for a driver ... it's suppose to be for my cam, but when I install the software thru a wizard ... nothing happen after I'm done and windows doesn't see the hardware ... can anyone help me with this? ... are there any webcam experts on the forum?

  5. Mark this one as solved ... I went here and downloaded and unziped the driver ... before I started I uninstalled the audio controller ... then rebooted the system .... then went the new hardward wizard came up I when through the prompts until I got to have disk ... then I when into the unziped files ... I didn't know where to look so I just started click down the line until I saw a win2000 and xp file ... I clicked on it and it open and when back to the address box ... so I knew I had the right file. I'm not sure but I think it said the driver wasn't tested and was I sure I wanted to use it ... I did ... and it loaded the files and the wizard completed installation ... so I now have sound.

Thanks to those that posted ... and I hope this will help someone else out ... if you have any questions let me know

  6. If you know the manufacture of the audio controller than search at there web site and see if they provide a driver.

    Good luck

to add to what sceeter32 said

Okay guys ... here is what is going on ... the multimedia audio controller in the device manager claims the driver isn't installed ... the software for the motherboard... see link above ... the soundmax ... when I install it ... it claims there is no driver .... okay ... when I have window xp look for a driver it finds the realtec ac97 and tries to install it ... when it's about done ... the computer reboot on it own ... and the driver isn't installed ... everytime I try to install it that happens. The realtec is suppose to be the driver but it won't work ... I have windows XP pro ... I just don't understand it ... the manufacturer is intel/gateway ... and the hardward ... soundmax ... claims it can't find the driver ... any clues as to what is happening?

  7. Try doing a low level format, make sure all the partitions have been deleted properly. Get some drive diagnostics utility from the drive manufacturer to make sure everything is clear as far as the partitions and to do the low level format. If you still have trouble you might be able to use a drive overlay to force your computer to see the full size. Really though, if you do a low level format and your cmos is up to date with the correct version, it should detect OK.

For low level format ... do you mean getting a boot disc and formatting it in dos? I will check and see if IBM has some kind of test ... I used western digital's tool ... it would be a pretty old drive to them, but I guess I could check it out. Thanks.

  8. Well I did some checking ... I took out the 80G data drive in this machine and connected to the other machine and the bios saw the whole 80G ... and the machine bios I'm running now ...when I put in the IBM drive shows 2.1 G ... so it's the drive. I have no idea why it is doing it ... but it is ... when I did the check with the WD it saw both the 20G and the 2.! G ... really weird :wacko: ... When I removed the data before formatting it showed 18G ... so I don't get it ... all I know is ...I have to use another hard drive.

PROBLEM AS SOLVED AS IT'S GOING TO GET ... NEW HHD NEEDED

  9. http://www.evertek.com/viewpart.asp?auto=25925&cm_mmc=Evertek-_-email-_-NA09.AUG.06-_-D845GERG2-BO-R

Well, socket 478 P4 should definitely support more than 2GB hard drive.

    Have you enabled LBA ?

I hear you ... that setting shouldn't even be there. It's not there on my board in my sig. The LBA is set at auto .... it's that or disable ...

Have you changed the hard drive to "Auto" defined and then clicked auto detect drive?

It is and has always been set on auto

Preset hard drive settings (where you set the cylinders, head, sectors, and hard drive size manually ) went out years ago and are there just for legacy purposes. Modern Hard Drives should be set to auto defined and then you click the auto detect drives option in the bios. It will query the drive and download the specs and save them.

That why I don't understand why I'm even having to deal with this issue.

You mention a bios upgrade; did you remember to clear the CMOS after the upgrade? If not open the case, unplug the PC and move the clear cmos jumper to clear position for a few minutes or remove the cmos battery overnight.

Then return to running position, close up, plug in and boot to bios setup and reconfigure everything.

I did clear the CMOS, but I didn't leave the battery out over night ... I do see that the new bios took effect it has the new string up top.

    :(:blink::wacko::huh:

  10. I have a Intel\gateway D845GERG3 mobo ... the bios string is ...

    RG84510A.15A.0037.P15.0304012013

I can't change the maximum hhd capacity ... it's set a 2.1G when I try to highlight it, it simply moves past it ... I tried installing the BIOS update, but no change ... why won't it let me change the hhd maximum capacity from 2.1G? Why won't it highlight that area? Why does it skip by it? How can I get the bios to see the whole 20G hhd and more? The board I am running now is similar, (has the same bios string) see in my sig ... but in it's bios there is nothing about a max hhd capacity at all ... I don't get it.:huh::wacko:

  11. I have an Intel/Gateway mobo ... D845GERG3

    Bios String RG84510A.15A.0037.P15.0304012013

This is the driver software that is for this motherboard. I was able to confirm this was the right program with the bios string.

I followed the instructions in the read me file .... I'm suppose to put the address to the file in run ... I do as the instructions say, the wizard comes up and it starts doing it thing then I get an error message "driver not found ... reboot the system, and run this setup again."

Then I get the wizard complete box and the installshield wizard successfully installed soundmax ... but when I reboot the device manager states the sound controller driver has not been installed. Could I have a corrupt file? Why does it say it can't find the driver? I thought it was the driver?

  12. Hello ... I'm am trying to do a fresh install of xp pro ... I searched the board for help but there was nothing similar to my problem.

I installed a new mobo and am trying to do a fresh install of xp pro ... I think it's the sp1 ... it will go through the first part, formatting the drive and all ... then when it ask to reboot and it does ... it starts the installation all over again. When it get to the part of where to put the OS ... I assign it to the one drive and it tells me an operation system already exists yet if I take the cd out when it reboots ... nothing ... when I leave the cd in ... it starts the installation all over again. Any clues as to what is happening.

It's not a new drive it a 20G that was used for storing data. It never had a OS installed on it.

Do a fresh install they say ... when you install a new mobo they say ... will reduce problems they say ...

    Ah HELP!
