  1. well you know this dude is really cool. He, my best friend, and I all piled up at my house tonight and watched like 12 episodes of one series. Initial D. It's an anime about cars and racing. What we watched focused heavily on an old 80's Corolla GTS (a Trueno over there I think) drift racing and beating other cars. In this anime's first season the car is only 10 years old so the series is a little old. Watching anime on an old 19" CRT Television wasn't quite as glamorous as watching it on a 42" Projection HDTV like last time. At least we had the audio going through 6.5" Pioneer Premier car spe
  2. It's a computer that people are gonna have access to that aren't skilled in Linux so it's gonna have Windows on it eventually. I wanna play around with Kubuntu some though and maybe install Kubuntu on another system (replacing Windows Vista Beta 2). The specs of the church PC are: AMD Duron 1600+ 256MB PC2100 RAM 40GB Seagate HDD PCI GeForce 4 MX420 64MB DDR it can easily run pretty much any OS other than Vista. I had FC4 and FC5 before on a 800MHz PIII with 512MB of PC133 RAM and an AGP GeForce2 MX400. I even had it on a 600MHz PIII with 384MB of PC133 and an AGP GeForce2 MX200. My systems th
  3. Kubuntu it is then. I like KDE a lot more.
  4. ok. Now I notice there is both Ubuntu and Kubuntu made by the same people. What's the difference and which is easier to deal with?
  5. ok so I'll ditch Fedora Core all together and give Ubuntu a whack sometime. All I know is Fedora Core 4 has been an extreme PITA to use. I still don't know what possessed me to ever download it. I shoulda gotten Ubuntu or whatever from the get go. First I gotta wait for some bandwidth to free up. As some of you may know, I've become an anime freak so I'm constantly downloading anime. I may just go to church and download it since we have a 4Mbps connection there while I only have a 640Kbps.
  6. back in the day when a me and a friend of mine had a gaming clan, one of our first members was from Auckland. Welcome to the board and have fun!
  7. goodbye Linux, I'm excavating my desk right now for that 98SE disc and the 95 disc too (98SE disc is an upgrade). I still don't know crap about Linux and can't even install a new version of Firefox so screw it. I can EASILY install Firefox 2 on 98SE. I'm sure my preacher can come up with another license of XP so this machine will eventually run on it.
  8. to be quite honest, I think I'm gonna dump FC4 and put Windows 98SE on this thing if I can find the disc or XP if I can get a hold of another license. I jumped into an OS too quickly. I think I need to sit down and take a class to use it. I have less trouble using a Mac. Why does it have to be so hard? Can't people just frickin write a program that installs like in Windows? I wanna like Linux but the simplicity of Windows (the use of it, not the make up. I know windows is ridiculously complex.) just makes me not wanna use Linux. I've got my machines all XP Home SP2 protected with all the neces
  9. umm double clicking the the .sh file opened something but it didn't seem to do anything. Just a bunch of commands everywhere that appear to have accomplished nothing. Do I have to extract the stuff or something?
  10. actually I think someone is gonna try to get an XP license for it. I just put Linux on it temporarily to make sure this thing can run correctly. Plus I haven't used Linux in ages so I thought this would be a good time to use it again. I need to remember to pull the XP License sticker off the case. That's my license for my main computer.
  11. I built a "new" computer for church (only motherboard is new) and all I had to install on it was Fedora Core 4. Well now I want to install the newest version of Firefox. It's in a .tar.gz file. I can open it but I can't seem to find instructions anywhere on how to actually install it. I'm used to just double clicking an .exe and pushing next a few times. Never really could quite figure out installing stuff in Linux. Once I figured something out. It was an .rpm that acted just like an .exe but it only worked in gnome but I normally use KDE.
  12. this new little booger is running like a dream. I just wish I knew my way around Linux a little better. I've got it hooked up to the network here now and I'm gonna update it. That is if Fedora Core 4 is still supported. I didn't like 5 as much and I couldn't find the discs for it anyway.
  13. it ain't bad but I've been wantin an X-Fi for a while now. I've got $50 Logitech Z-4 speakers (normally $100 at most places, $70 on newegg, got em on sale at OfficeMax) and they will tick my parents off when they are around but when no one is in the house, It's belting out DragonForce and Pagan's Mind and incredible volumes with plenty of bass. This sub is pretty good.
  14. ok, the woman that did the voice for that robot I know has to do anime voices cause I've heard her before. Trust me, it may be in another language but I have been able to notice characters from different shows having the same seiyu (voice actor) before (looked em up on the internet after hearing them). anywho, yes that robot moves fairly realistically, but again, it's a programmed routine. When they develop a robot like that, that can operate with out a set routine then it will be especially impressive.
  15. I just love building them. I just got done building a "new" one for church. Preacher gave me a new motherboard and an old processor and I used a mess of parts from other computers and got me this one going. It sports the following: XG Sidewinder Mid-Tower ATX Case (old main computer's case, covered in blue LED fans) Hipro 200W Micro ATX PSU (From my Compaq that has an upgraded PSU) Biostar M7NCD Socket A nForce2 Ultra 400 ATX Motherboard (New) AMD Duron 1600+ 256MB PC2100 RAM (2 random 128MB sticks I had laying around) PCI GeForce4 MX420 64MB DDR Video Card 40GB Seagate Hard Drive (pulled fro
  16. make sure the balance for the sound is set for center and even try setting the balance to the left speaker and see what happens. Still no sound then time for an X-Fi my friend, or at least a maybe an Sounblaster Live!. Wish I had a Soundblaster X-Fi. I'm stuck with an old Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS
  17. people keep saying trucks and SUV's are safer but still it all depends on where the vehicle is hit, how fast it was going and what made contact with it. You're doing 50 or above and whack a tree head on, I don't care what you are driving, kiss that car goodbye. I have seen a Civic T-bone a Trailblazer. It was a 96-98 like mine, only a Sedan. Trailblazer was demolished. Totaled, unrepairable. Civic, messed up bumper and fenders, crinkled hood and maybe some light frame damage, totally fixable and drivable.
  18. Touge (pronounced toga) is running on twisty, curvy roads and what not (usually back roads) and skilled drivers will try to run through some pretty hairy stuff as fast as they can. Here's a video example: Lead car is a B16B powered (Civic Type R motor) EK Civic Hatchback (like mine) Camera car is a B16A2 powered (same as mine) EG Civic Hatchback (like my old one only a hatchback instead of a coupe) These guys have skill though and are going insanely fast. We were just poking compared to these guys.
  19. gun.............like the good ole MG42 or the M2 .50 cal.
  20. I made some new friends. "Why is this bad?" you might ask. Well I did it in the most retarded way possible. I am a member of a local Tennessee automotive forum. Nice friendly bunch kinda like here but with looser mouths and most members are under 26. Well I didn't mind too much letting people know which town I'm in cause people on there meet up all the time. I was talking about one thing in one thread and I get a private message from another guy wanting to talk further about it. He also lived in the same town and asked if I'd like to cruise with him. I said sure and we met up at the mall 45 mi
  21. yeah but what I'm saying is trucks used to be cheaper work Vehicles and now people buy the real nice ones and they are never used for work. The former owner of the place I worked at had a newer GMC Sierra V6 that was also a real truck. Regular cab, crank windows, fabric seats, only thing is he installed a CD player. It was comfortable enough and it did work. We constantly loaded that thing up with crap and hauled stuff in it. My managers older Sierra despite being a higher end vehicle, it was used constantly for work and off-road. People don't buy trucks and SUV's for their intended purpose an
  22. well one thig that bugged me. That near luxury interior crap. Hello it's a ****ing truck. It's a work vehicle. Those things they call trucks now are more like jacked cars with beds. My dad's 1998 Tacoma 2WD with a 4 banger is more of a truck. Hell my hatchback is more of truck. A real frickin truck is my and my brother's old 66 Chevy 3/4 ton or our 78 Chevy 1/2 ton. Real trucks that were used for real work. My dad's Tacoma has seen more work than any of these luxury vehicles are ever gonna see. Also, a Lincoln truck. you have got to be bull****ing me. It's getting to the point where trucks are
  23. Funny. That's a lie if I've ever heard one. I am southern through and through, and not only do I holler at ANYONE while driving, my family and lots of my friends do too. Also it's throwin' a hissie fit and havin a conniption. Born and raised southern by people born and raised southern. Grandparents the same. Long family history in the south.
  24. Whoops I just realized a mistake. I put F22A1 as the engine code. Actually that is an old transversely mounted SOHC accord (or maybe prelude) motor. I meant F22C. 2.2L DOHC VTEC that powers the rear wheels. 240 stock ponies naturally aspirated. Throw in some performance parts and some boost (turbo or supercharger) and then you got one rockin 4 banger that can easily match that Volvo motor.
  25. despite the fact I don't know German, I understood that commercial. Of course both Deutsch (German) and English are Germanic languages with much of English being derived from Deutsch. Let's just say that this was far easier to understand than much of the subtitled anime I'm watching. I'd be entirely lost without subtitles but that Opel ad, I picked much of it out. Doesn't seem like a bad little car but I wouldn't really be smoked by a 30 year old Opel. It has a newer turbocharged Volvo motor in it. A turbo'd F22A1 can get some wicked horse power too (upwards to 450HP or more to the wheels on a
