  1. verizon DSL $29.95 per month 1.5 Mbps down i don't care about upload, but mine is currently at 353kbps
  2. the sound card and NIC card can be on the same IRQ. meaning basically, the same circut. i would try using a different pci slot if you can.
  3. mike, according to your "meter" on your blog, i'm 26%.........whew.........!!! gotta go look at more porno sites before the wife gets home. she'll wonder why i'm being so "friskie" too...............!!!!!!!
  4. type in this at google: "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer" but do not use quotation marks. this is the same sentence from your warning box. you will then see a lot of forum sites come up.
  5. ok, i came up with several forum sites that someone has/had this problem. go to each site and read what worked, and what didn't. that's about all i can say for now, as i haven't run into this myself. try each of these hey, something is wrong with my link, there were several sites/forums to go to. i do not know why the link is not working
  6. have you tried hitting the button that allows the files to be put back in?
  7. your best bet would be to open up the pc, try to get a physical good look at the label on the drive itself. its possible that from the time the drive was first produced, to the time it was installed in your pc, there were spec's updates at the manufacturer's end, and possibly the web site doesn't relate this info. mid-year, or end of year changes happen all the time in any industry. it could also be a great possibility that EVEREST is wrong, afterall, no "free" program is ever 100% accurate, heck, not even "paid for" programs are 100% accurate either.
  8. for those of you using nvidia cards, there is a brand new 20.1 MB download/update. this update does seem to fix/cure the poor viewing of certain websites that have either windows media player or any other video player (viewer) you might be using.
  9. right now, i just turned on my AMD pc. its showing 34 degree's celceus, and 112 degree's farenheit. so, i'd say that 100 degree's farenheit is not going to kill my pc. as i said, the temps listed for most if not all cpu's, is celceus, not farenhiet.
  10. yes, but you gotta remember, the readings are usually in celceus.
  11. a celceus of 90 degree's will be about 194 degree's farehiet
  12. temps conversion since you have an AMD, AMD's do run a bit hotter. use the site i sent you a link to, and do the conversions yourself. then, go into the BIOS, maybe you (or by default) have the temp shut off set too low....?? if so, raise it up. its not uncommon for an AMD to run as high as 90 degree's celceus.
  13. i cannot find anything just yet about this, but some other boards i have searched asked if the graphics card, and the cpu have been overclocked (even if by a tiny bit) that they ought to be returned to normal. another suggestion would be to un-install and re-install the game. when you do this, make sure all programs running in the background are turned off, like anti virus, etc, screensaver, etc, etc. you seem to have enough ram. i am not familiar with that brand of video card, so, how much ram does that video card have? (if in your spec list, i am currently not viewing it here).
  14. i see no reason why you cannot unplug either one from the USB. i would however do this with the pc powered down. no loss of data should happen.
  15. Kaspersky.............?? i'd admit i don't know this one, but i did a quick google on it. i read some brief reviews as well, and right now, i'm not impressed. i still have AVG, and my norton has expired, maybe i'll renew my norton, maybe not. anyhow, i find that AVG works just fine for me as well.
  16. yeah, Pete_C did way too much for the old techtv boards, then he went and did way too much for the G4 boards, and what did he get.....?? not too much, i gather. he even helped set up the new boards. anyhow, the mods and admins over at G4 never treated me badly, i was PM'd once or twice, or three times, about reporting an obscene posting someone made, and i was told basically, please do not respond, just PM a mod instead. that responding i was doing (as well as some of you) only "fed the trolls". beyond that, i was as i said, never poorly treated. there are still some regulars there, and i will
  17. i was once a "dedicated" western-digital user. but when my W-D died, i thought i'd try a different maker, so i went with Seagate. i'd recommend Seagate first, then W-D second.
  18. shoot, i forgot about resetting the BIOS/CMOS
  19. get back here and tell us if you still have any problems.
  20. ok, booting up in safe mode ain't gonna happen as you really don't have an operating system right now. however, start the pc, and go into the BIOS, and make sure that you have either the SCSI or IDE enabled, whichever you have. you should first take a look-see at what type of hard drive you have, the label on the drive will tell you, but i'd suspect right now, you have an IDE hard drive. a SCSI hard drive, normally spins at or about at least 10,000 RPM's by the way (as a general, basic rule here). once that you have checked into the BIOS and you have the IDE enabled, go and check also to see i
  21. yes, typically the components you get when you buy a retail version of a cpu are adequate for the job. just do not overclock in the future without first replacing the original heatsink, fan.
  22. what o/s? if xp, did you see the tiny icon in the lower right corner indicating it was ok to disconnect the keyboard? try removing the CMOS battery for a minute or two to reset the CMOS.
  23. well i don't vote polls, but in regards to going back, i'll still cruz over there from time to time. why not, there are still some regulars there, it would be useless to say that someone would totally never go back. we never should say never.
  24. yes, remove those continuity sticks anytime, and replace them with ram sticks. you must have all those ram slots filled with something, they cannot be empty at anytime whatsoever. also, find out your systems ram limit, you can probably go higher than 1 GB of ram. although, 1GB of ram really is quite enough, i would think, as both of my pc's have 1GB of ram each, and by the way, one pc i have does use RDRAM as yours does.
