  1. I turned off the server the other day, and Now I cant mount the drives at all: I need to know how to repair all of my filesystems because they were not clean....Does anyone know how to easily repair the drives?? I want to scan them all and fix them, but i need to mount /dev/sda2 and fsck said it couldnt read block 32781. Is there a way to repair this bad block so I can remount the drive and move my files, or at least repair it until I can get a replacement drive for the server?? I want to remount all drives and I think /dev/sda2 is the one who is stopping the works

  2. I have been advised, as has been said above to remove adaware and spybot from my arsenal as well. MBAM does such a good job that it is what I use after running a scan with Panda. There are other tools that are faster, smaller and better, and with S+D 1.5, I cant get all of my protections locked in when I immunize.

Thanks Brian. I apologize for putting this in the wrong spot. Is there something I can do to get this thread deleted?

    Your welcome ;)

One of our Mods or admins ON BT will probably see this and either move it, or lock it so that it is in the malware forum. If they do, you won't have to worry ;)

  4. Tried this again, and made a password for my accounts, the thing is that I have to start it from a shell before I can vnc - I can use vncviewer4 or my older version of vnc, but want to set up specific display numbers for certain logins so I do NOT have to be root initially - I was able to start vncserver and then do:

    192.168.1.60:display#

Then it came up with a password prompt, and I entered it and it worked - I don't know what the heck I did, right or wrong, but may need some more help on this: I get this right, and I can go live on the net next week :)

  5. I cant seem to run VNC4 Server and successfully connect to my linux machine's desktop - It shows that it has a valid display #, but when I try to use a VNC viewer from my windows box, I get a password box, I enter the right password, and then get "VNC Authentocation failed" which means i cannot connect to the linux box:

    brian@Eliveserver{pts/0}:/root> vncserver :0

You will require a password to access your desktops.

    Password:
    Verify:

Warning: Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us:0 is taken because of /tmp/.X0-lock
Remove this file if there is no X server Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us:0
A VNC server is already running as :0
    brian@Eliveserver{pts/0}:/root> vncserver :6
    Found /usr/share/vnc-java for http connections.

New 'Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us:6 (brian)' desktop is Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us:6

    Creating default startup script /home/brian/.vnc/xstartup
    Starting applications specified in /home/brian/.vnc/xstartup
    Log file is /home/brian/.vnc/Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us:6.log

    brian@Eliveserver{pts/0}:/root>

is there any way to start this thing and allow connections to the linux box from windows? It was running before, but I couldnt start it right, and I had no password, so I had to install it again on elive.

    Any help would be appreciated....

  6. I agree that the economy is in dire straights and needs to be revitalized. There has been too much of a "wait and see" approach to Washington Politics for 8+ Years and it is time for the common man to have a stake in what is going on.

I see that we have a banking problem, we have businesses closing, we have double digit unemployment, we have a HOUSING crisis and we have banks that will not lend money, even after they took some of the TARP funds - This is unacceptable - This proves that we need to do something to get the economy MOVING..........The time for people to SAY we have a problem is OVER. we have to SOLVE it.

Dems and Reps and Inds. need to stop playing the same political games they have played for many years, and realize that we need help. It also does NOT help that we have Wall Street "fat cats" still playing the same games, and congress putting in earmarks (PORK) into this bill when Obama said "There will be NO EARMARKS in this stimulus package."

I like the part that says that people who are disabled will get more Foodstamps and will get a one time payment of $250 - I just wish that we could have gotten the first "stimulus" check this way rather then going through the IRS HELL to get it, because filing taxes is a nightmare, and I don't understand it, and I don't think I will. (I didn't file for this, because I would have NOT received it)

I am sick and tired of the ritzy execs getting all the help, and little guys that can't afford mortgages and food and helthcare getting next to nothing. It is time to throw the Washington Book away, and start doing unconventional things that have been untried, and begin efforts to change what we can. Obama is NOT responsible for this crisis, but he is going to do what he can to solve it, and he says that it will take time, and I agree. So far, Obama has delivered what he said he would, and he has had his trials, but he can do it - We have to be united, and work together to get this done.

We have to upset the applecart of Washington Politics to get this moving, for if we don't we risk losing more and more jobs and banks and businesses and credit.

  7. SATA - A specification for consumer hard drive connections that boosts the data transfer rate up to 150MB/second. In addition, it changes IDE/ATA from a parallel interface requiring 40 separate wires to connect components to a serial interface requiring only 6 wires. 2x and 4x versions of Serial ATA double and quadruple the speed of Serial ATA

  8. Just need to register your name with someone like Go Daddy. If the name is available you pay them a few dollars pre year. Then you just point the url at the blog url, there are tools to do this at Go Daddy and others takes just a few minutes to set up.

And you won't be able to use a domain with a . in it. And edit out the domain you want in your post or someone could register it before you do in hopes to sell it to you.

I agree: Godaddy has alot of sales on domains, and when it was time for me to get a renewal, I registered a new domain, and transferred one from yahoo to godaddy. It is pretty easy to do, and if you transfer a domain, it takes from 5-7 business days for everything to straighten out. I think I paid $22.00 for both domains.

You should remove the domain you placed here, as Isteve states, because someone may swipe it away from you. If you registered it already, then you should be OK, but I would register it first.

    Good Luck!!

  9. OK Webmin was the cause of my confusion - I had to look at the Partition Manager, which showed this:

    Location SCSI device D

    Cylinders 38913

    Size 298.09 GB

    Model WD 3200AAJ External

    Controller 2

    Target 0

Once I fount that, I didnt realize that the mybook was mounted as a vfat device, so I mounted it as msdos and changed the permissions to my UID and my GID.

It showed that it was SCSI Device D Win95 32LBA, and I was trying to mount it as EXT3, and I did NOT realize what device SCSI device D was, until I looked at the partition manager - Then, BANG: Webmin mounted her :)

Go ME - Webmin messed me up, but she will mount automatically ;)

Thanks for the info on dmesg

  11. Is there a way to mount a Mybook 320GB External drive in Elive?

    - Connected the HDD.

    - Run dmesg and look for messages related to the drive (usb-storage, etc). The later messages should include the device node (e.g., sdd).

    - mount $DEVICE $MOUNTPOINT where $DEVICE is the path to a partition on the drive (e.g., /dev/sdd1) and $MOUNTPOINT is anything at all.

Thanks, will check into that ;)

  13. Iccaros:

I actually got Wordpress Installed, but had to access PHPMyadmin, which was hard as hell, because I figured I would NOT be able to access it. I edited the file in in /etc/phpmyadmin (the config.inc.php) file to set the database to localhost and I also went into the PhpMyadmin to make a user called 'user' with ONLY access permissions to my database, called wordpress.

After I did that, I made sure that I had permissions for 'localhost' on all db's associated with wordpress, entered 'user' as the database user, and left the password blank. I went to the server and did a

    (http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php) and she Installed.

Now, I want to make it so that I have my host pointed at 192.168.1.60 and when I do this, I want to be able to login as admin, and config the setup so I can blog, but with everything 'localhost' ot is hard to do.

Can you help me fix this??

    Brian

OK: Fixed the problem: this is how I did it.

    1. I changed all necessary setups to 'localhost' in all files necessary to make the install work properly.

    2. I logged in as root for access to PhpMyAdmin - Then created a dummy user called 'user' (Host is localhost) with no password and NO permissions on the database 'wordpress' other then 'usage', which apparently is what you get when you make a user with PhpMyadmin with No permissions given

    3. I logged in as admin, with the supplied password

    4. From there, went to general settings, and found the 'wordpress address field', which has "http://localhost/wordpress/" - changed this to 192.168.1.60, which is the address of my server for now. Also changed the Blog Address to this and Saved the info. Then I went to oddessy, and tried to login directly, and I was granted access based on the IP of the server. I tested it from my Vista Laptop and it works well.

Thanks for the help. Is there any permission changes I should make to the files in /var/www/brian/wordpress to secure them, or is root root OK??

  15. the server that has mysql is different from the one with wordpress (yes?)

if so it could be several issues

is iptables blocking the ports (try /etc/init.d/iptables stop ) on both boxes for testing..

    see http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/how-do-i-ena...ase-server.html

    for more on that

sorry it took a while.. I have been out of town.

    Iccaros:

    No Problem!! :)

The server that has MYSQL is the same as the onwe that has wordpress. Wordprerss is in my /var/www/brian directory. however, i did set up a virtual directory - not sure if that has anything to do with it, but I can connect to it from my computers - I just cant install wordpress.

Will look at this info and see what the deal is, but wordpress support for this issue sucks :(

    Thanks,

    Brian

  16. Iccaros:

I created the user, and am STILL having problems with the setup: I connect from my machine to 192.168.1.60, which is the IP address of the elive server, which is also known as Eliveserver.buddy-baker.us. I placed the server's wp=config.php here for you to see. The passwords work, permissions seem OK, but the script cannot connect to the server:
