Just curious. Will (or can) Ubuntu 6.06be upgraded to 7.04 or will I have to uninstall 6.06 first? The Migration Assistant looks like it can be a timesaver Mark

Can Not Get Xp Home To Boot Up
garmanma replied to tman70's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Did you remember to make the CDROM drive is the first boot device in the BIOS? Mark -
I reinstalled it and it now works and opens automatically. Mark

I have a pdf file I want to read. I went to add/remove programs and it says I have Document Viewer installed, but for the life of me I can't find the damn thing. I tried search for files and clicked and scrolled every tab/button I could find, but I don't see it anywhere. What am I missing? Mark

I got it. I gotta learn to quit being so impatient and just poke around more. I must say that so far, other than the learning curve, I like it. Mark

OK, I assume you mean when I have text editor open? Makes sense to me Mark

Well for the most part it's going to depend on what your choices are when you move. Do you know who all serves the area? Mark

On a quick break. Thanks Ham, I'll try that tonight if I get a chance. Another thing I'd like to do is have my text editor on the bottom toolbar for quick access. I looked a little bit this morning and seen some options but not for text editor. Of course I am in a bit of a rush. Gotta go Mark

I think part of my problem is my 4 button trackball, it works like a 3 button mouse. I know I'll probably never get it to work right, but I'm so used to it I'm not going to change. Maybe someday they'll write a driver for it. I must say, so far I really like it Mark

Duh.. Thank you Mark

I really don't know what this is called, so I don't know how to search for it. With XP/Firefox, when I have the browser open and I want to type in a different web address, I'll click on the web address, it'll turn blue, and I can type in another website. With Firefox/Ubuntu, I'll click on the addressar but it won't do anything. I have to backspace and get rid of the current address, then I can type in the website I want.I've compared the settings between the 2, but I can't see anything. I hope this makes sense Thanks Mark

Never figured to look there. While I'm thinking about it, is there an easy way to add all my bookmarks from XP over to the new browser? Thanks Mark

"I got the notebook for a backup, in case my desktop crashes, I can get on line and get help to repair it." Damn, I wish I could afford to be paranoid like Mark

I'm figuring things out, slow but sure, except setting up my own homepage instead of the default.. It's Firefox, but when I click on "Tools" there isn't the "options" tag where I can make the selection. What am I missing Mark

Thanks guys. I'm using it as we speak. I'll definitly be postiong back with questions.. First thing is to adjust the screen resolution so I can see the damn thing. Hopfully I can get my trackball to work properly. I don't know if I should have downloaded all of the pdates but I just did. Hope they aren't as buggy as MS have been recently Mark

Which drive should I have set to master when loading Ubuntu, XP or the empty one? Mark

Thanks guys. I'll give it a try tonight if I get a chance. We had to take my daughter to the hospital, again. Looks like my grandson wants out no matter what the doctor has to say about it. Just eating a quick lunch and back to the hospital Mark

So I'm giving up on the other machine for now, but I'm still determined to give it a shot. I took my wife's spare ntfs- formatted empty drive and put it in my computer. My first idea was to hook it up by itself as master, load ubuntu, reset it as slave, and use my BIOS to decide which drive to boot to. After some reading I know this is not the thing to do, but the more I read the more confused I get. Exactly how should I go about doing this? I don't care which OS is default. Does my XP drive have to remain connected while installing Ubuntu, for it to be detected? I really don't want to risk lo

If you do a repair install, like Curling Steve said, it should not delete any files or settings Mark
