  1. is it an option to connect it to a pc with a parallel port then use printer sharing?

No---they are paranoid about letting people access their network

with personal laptops. I can't get on with my laptop so if I want to

be able to print, I have to have a stand-alone printer and I really

don't want to go and buy one when I have this one just sitting there.

  2. Hi people. I have an older HP laser printer that still works great. It is a LaserJet 5L. The thing is, it ONLY has

a Parallel port printer cord input. I would like to use this at work with my Laptop but that computer ONLY has

USB ports. I am NOT able to hook my laptop into the company network so if I want to print, I have to have my

own stand-alone printer. I would love to be able to print to this HP because it works great and it's relatively

cheap to operate but I have no clue of how I could access it from my laptop.

Does anybody make some kind of USB to Parallel cable adapter? I have never seen one. Anybody got any ideas?

  3. I know there must be a simple way to do this but I really don't know how.

I absolutely HATE the Windows Explorer default of showing icons when you open a folder. Can't I

somehow set the default to show "details" view instead? I really would prefer to always have it open

in the detail view every time. I just can't find where to do this.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3.

Thanks in advance for any help you experts can offer.

  4. I go to control panel and then to printers. I click on the "add a printer" and choose networked printer.

I then choose the "my printer is not shown here" and refresh the network. Then I double click on my desktop

computer and choose the printer and click on OK and I get a box saying that it can't install the printer and to make

sure that I have the name right and that it is connected to the network.

It IS connected---it IS turned on.

    I just don't know what's up.

  5. I have a home network. Two desktops running XP SP3 on both that are wired thru a router.

I also have a Laptop that iw running Vista home premium SP1 that connects wireless thru the

same router. I have printers connected to both laptops and I have file and printer sharing

    enabled on ALL 3 computers.

I can not connect to either printer with my laptop. If I try to print, I get the message that there

is no printer to print to. If I go to the control panel, I can try to add a printer, and I can "see" the

two printers on the network, but I can't get either to install to my laptop.

Does anybosy have any ideas for me to be able to print from the laptop??

    Thanks...........jim

  6. Well, you are barely at miminum specs for XP home.

Microsoft says that it will run on a 233 MHz chip with a minimum of 64 Megs of RAM

Most of the things I read about it was that you needed a 300 MHz chip and a bare minimum of 128 MG of RAM and

most people that were running XP had at least 512 MG of RAM. I know that you are trying to get by without

having to stick a lot of money into your system, but you might want to thing about upgrading your motherboard,

chip, and RAM to something that will run it a whole lot better.

The other way to look at it is that if you are going to stick a lot of money into upgrading, you might as well just get

    a new computer.

  7. I have recently acquired a new laptop computer that I use for work. I travel a lot, I'm a salesman, and

I would be using this computer 8 to 10 per day while on the road. The battery is more than enough

to do this without running it down so charging is not a problem, but I do have one question.

Will it hurt anything if I just put it into "sleep" mode (just close the cover) rather than shutting it down and

then completely rebooting when I want to use it again? I'm concerned with the HD, I guess.

It only takes like 5 seconds to come back from sleep mode but it takes a couple of minutes

to come up from a whole reboot. The computer is kept in a soft case in the front of the car with me when

    not being used.

  8. I have a router that I currently have hooked up to two computers.....one is upstairs and one is downstairs.

The router is downstairs. Now......I have a laptop, too and I would like to hook that up every so often and I really

don't want to run another cable upstairs if I don't have to. I have another 4 port router that I'm not using.....can I take the cable that was running from the router to my upstairs computer and put that as the input to the 2nd router and then run a cable from the 2nd router to my upstairs desktop computer and another to my laptop?

  9. I have 6 USB ports on my computer and when I connect something to it

I get a pop up that says that I could use USB 2 for faster connections.

I have the most current drivers installed and they should all be ver 2

Any idea why I get this message or what I can do to fix it?

    thanks............jim
