  1. Drafting Guys Over 60

This is funny & obviously written by a Former Soldier...

New Direction for any war: Send Service Vets over 60!

I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a month, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. 'My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry.' We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some ass that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10am. Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell. Besides, like I said, I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any push ups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons, who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50...in menopause!!! You think MEN have attitudes??

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!! If nothing else, put them on border patrol. They'll have it secured the first night!

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.Boot camp would be easier for old guys.. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

  2. I installed Ubuntu version 9 a while ago on my 2nd HDD and it installed the grub loader so

I can choose between Windows XP or Ubuntu. I HATE the long 30 second wait

when I boot up windows and I remember from a previous installation that I could edit the Grub

configuration file to change the number of seconds that it times out.

I went looking all over and couldn't find it in this installation. Could somebody point

me to the right directory and file? Thanks.

  3. I did my regular virus scan today and it said that I had a file called "gzip" and that it was a decompression bomb.

I use Avast. I tried to have the program delete it and it couldn't. It couldn't move it, either.

It says that the file is in a directory called c:\users\jim\appdata........firefox\gzip and I could not find it using Windows Explorer

I am running Vista Home Premium with all updates current.

What is this file? Do I have to worry about it? How do I get rid of it if it IS a problem.

    Thanks

  4. I just discovered HULU........I have a nice big TV and it would be nice to watch movies thru my Laptop on the bigger screen.

Now--what do I need to do this? I have S-Video inputs availabe on the TV.....what would I use to go from the laptop to the input on the TV? or can't this be done........????

  5. Toshiba sent me a notice that there is an update available for my laptop's BIOS and

gave me a link to download it.

It has always been my feeling that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

If I'm not having any problems with my laptop and everything is working fine,

then should I ignore this notice or would you upgrade anyway?

    Opinions?? Thanks people!!!

  6. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. We realized last week, that our church's address must be listed somewhere incorrectly somehow, because we had a funeral and people that were coming for the memorial service kept calling the office and asking for directions. Many people commented that they went on Google or Mapquest and tried to find directions and were given incorrect information. I don't know where these sites pull their information from, but it must be listed wrong on some site that they farm their data from. Upon investigation, I find that we are listed as having an address of XXXX 50th AVE and it should be XXXX 50th STREET. How would I go about getting this corrected? The Exec. Pastor asked me if I knew what we needed to do and I really have NO idea how to go about correcting this. Anybody got any ideas???? Thanks!!!

  7. I can't get the dvd player in my laptop to play dvd's

I keep getting a pop up saying that there is a problem between the player and the video board

The suggested fix is to check to see that the drivers are up to date and upon doing so, I get a message that

all the drivers are up do date and correct.

This must be a somewhat common problem because I get directed to M$'s site and their page describes the

problem and gives the same suggestions as I got from Toshiba's

My player is a Pioneer DVD-RW DVRKD 08L ATA devise and my video board is (as installed) ATI Radeon X1250

I am running Vista Home Premium with all updates and service packs current.

Any ideas on what I could try to get this thing to play movies??

  8. You could buy a second hard drive and do a reinstall on that drive and then hook up the original drive as a slave

and then pull the data off that drive and then finally reformat the drive. A small HD isn't that expensive. I've had to do that in the past. This assumes that you have a stand-alone WinXP install CD.

One thing, if you do go this route.......Windows will ask you if you want to register Windows again, and also to activate again.

You don't have to re-register. You do have to activate it.
