History suggests that it will die. Copy-protection that's strong enough to impede the determined seems to invariable result in discs that can't be played by a regular audio systems, and copy-protection that's weak enough to be compatible is no problem to circumvent. Either way it ends up dead even if it's still on the market. In this case it sounds like it's the copy-protection is partially software-enforced -- the discs themselves obviously can't track the number of copies made of a song -- and software copy-protection is hardly protection at all. On the other hand, even ineffective copy-pr

You really think it wont last? I certainly hope it doesn't. I had no doubt that eventually it would be cracked, but I didn't think it would just role over and die. Doesn't it violate some 'fare use' rule or something? That could lead to its termination.. Matt
  3. Hey all One tutorial that I'd like to see is a complete tutorial of making the Linux switch. I know that you could write an entire book on this, but if not a tutorial, just some useful links to head in the right direction. People on the forums have been a great help, but I'm still edgy.. What, IMO, a good tutorial on this should include is: partitioning and resizing, installing, enabling dual boot, and everything important that is inbetween. The whole thing could be based of just on one distro, or something. I don't know.. just a thought Matt

  5. I know we ll knew this was coming.. the news of copy-protected CDs. Here's some info: We all know there is only a matter of time before people find a way around that, but we shouldn't have to do this. More info: http://www.latimes.com/business/custom/cot...ack=1&cset=true

  10. Hey B I tried it out, and everything seemed to work fine for me. It works with and without the themes enabled. I'm not sure what your problem could be, other than your icons may have some active process running in the background. EDIT: Try going back into properties, and click 'customize' next to the check box. Does it say 'Always show' next to your icons? Try changing those to 'Hide when inactive' and see what happens. Matt

  17. Thanks Toc, I actually started using Adblock when I was over at JeePhor, about a year ago. The sole reason I got it was to block their ads. It took me some time to figure it out, and I'm sure this will be helpful to others. Now I enjoy Adblock to stop almost ALL banner ads. Matt

    Hacking

If this person is truely interested in hacking for non-malicous purposes, then I'm all for the share of information. If they currently know nothing, and try to jump into some illegal ploy, chances are, justice will be surved to them eventually. Just my thoughts. Matt

  20. Could you attach a compiled file of the game? As for profit.. you have to assume that users will not use whole numbers. I cannot judge by quality (because I have yet to play it) but with the bug possibilites of non-whole numbers, you may have trouble selling it. Once I play it, I can give you a better opinion. Matt
