  1. Sorry Dragon, I don't see the O3 When looking at HJT entries like Rs, O2s O3s etc that have a CLSID (the numbers/letters is braces) Your search (whether in google or within a database) would be the CLSID. So, if you are looking up the first one your query would be 107F4973-8F98-866E-C1AF-828AD0A2FB9F.About the second one.. The tutorial says the following: So, if you are familiar with working in the registry, this is what you are looking for. If you are not, however, I would HIGHLY reccomend posting and requesting for assistance. Always make a backup before tinkering with the registry.
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't clamav not include an on-access real-time scanner, or is that only in the windows version?
  3. I'm almost positive the master/slave setup is alright. No errors in Device Manager. I don't believe it is a power supply issue either, as I have had no other issues indicating there being a problem. The disk is a Western Digital.
  4. Heh, well that's odd. If I try this with IE6, it saves perfectly fine. 100%. Does everyone have all the latest updates?
  5. Ya, Dell shipped the computer with a small partition in the C:. I also have a 2nd HDD that I added, but it doesn't boot to that, unless I have Linux installed, which runns from the 2nd HDD. I'm not sure if I have any diagnostic software with the original hard drive. Could this have been cause when I added the 2nd hard drive; making it a hardware issue?
  6. Hiya TT. I should probably mention I don't have any Linux distro currently installed. It is I did fixboot, and then it asked if I was sure I wanted to apply it to C: and I said yes. There were none. Here it is: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn Thanks for the help. Matt
  7. Hi again Shane. There are still baddies in that log. Look over the Rs (database) O2s (database) O4s (database) If you need help researching, feel free to ask. *Tip* Online virus scans, such as Panda Active Scan come in handy. Matt

  9. Hi Shane. 95% of all HJT analysis is done through research, not direct knowlege. That tutorial should include resources for looking up every kind of entry you need. If you haven't already been to castlecops.com you should pay it a visit. On the left will be links to their various databaes for researching HJT entries. (For example, O4 items are called 'startup items' and would be on the link called 'Startup List') CC won't have every thing you're looking for, but that tutorial should cover everything you neeed. While most new infections can't just be fixed using HJT and Killbox, we can he
  10. Here's something odd that's been going on for a while, but I've never payed much attention to it. If I ever select to reboot my computer, upon the startup I get an error reading disk read error on a black screen, and I have to power down. Once I turn it back on, its fine. So, shutting down, and then truning it back on is ok; but 'rebooting' causes this error. I recall that this started after the first time I removed Linux and I performed a fixmbr and fixboot (to get GRUB off). Anyway, I don't pay much heed to it, rarely 'reboot' anyway. would b nice to know how to fix it though. Thank
  11. Welcome Betamaxman!
  12. Well, I was messing with my display settings, and I accidentialy set the screen resolution to 640x480 Well now, I can't change it back. When I go into the display settings area, the buttons for "apply" and "ok" are too low on the screen (even with the task bar pushed to the side). I can't drag the window up an farther to reach the buttons. I'd take a screen shot to tell you what I mean, but I don't know how to take a screen shot yet.... Also, the highest available setting is 800x600. Is there a way to up that? Of course, I need to be able to get to the buttons to change it.. Thanks,

    Install Kde

ok - cool. I was able to just select it on the login screen and set it from default. Thanks for the help guys. I'll probably have more questions about kde, so I'll post them in this thread if I do. Matt
  14. I didn't like Ender's Shadow too much, but the other was great!

    Install Kde

Well, the next thing I would like to do is install and run KDE. I recall one of the reasons I left Ubuntu was because I really didn't like gnome. It made me feel like I was working in OS 9. At the time, I wasn't aware that you could change the desktop environment. So, I'd love the install KDE, it looks awesome, and it seems most of you use it. I've tried commands such as apt-get install kdecore and similar commands expressed by crrj, but either I am told nothing was downloaded, or everything is up to date. So... I'm obviously doing something wrong, or I don't have the right files Tha
  16. Yep, its a fantastic book. You never suspect the end until it happens!
  17. Thanks shane! I'm off to bed for the night, but get ready for some more questions tomorrow! Thanks again, Matt
  18. ok, here's the cat command output: matt@cpe-24-210-251-48:~$ cat /boot/grub/menu.lst # menu.lst - See: grub(8), info grub, update-grub(8) # grub-install(8), grub-floppy(8), # grub-md5-crypt, /usr/share/doc/grub # and /usr/share/doc/grub-doc/. ## default num # Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and # the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used. # # You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry # is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'. default 0 ## timeout sec # Set a timeout, in SEC second
  19. Will do. Would like some guidance though. I know I have to change the number next to defaul from 0, but what do I change it to? 4? And since it opens in the terminal, will it save just by me exiting? Thanks Matt
  20. Ok, mine wasn't mounted. When I type that command I get cpe-24-210-251-48:/# mount /boot mount: can't find /boot in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab I'm in root. Am I doing something wrong?
  21. mmm well I dont know where that file it, lol and as I recall it was rather complicated...
  22. Well! I finally got Debian up and running. I've been roaming around a bit, checking things out. I'm not sure yet if I like this or Ubuntu better, but its most definately too early (especially for a beginner like myself) to make that decision... Anyway... the first thing I'd like to do is edit grub so that Windows is the default OS and Windows would be the one loaded after 10 seconds if no choice is selected. The reason is this is a familty computer, and I will be the only one booting into linux. Wanna make it easier for everyone else. I've done this before, but I couldn't find a post abo
  23. meh, Viewpoint isn't that big of a deal.. Some experts don't even consider it malware. While I don't support drive-by installs or the like, viewpoint shouldn't be anywhere close to the top of your security warnings. Big removal steps aren't really needed, if you know what you are doing. I know it says it may become big adware this year, but as of right now, not much is to worry about. Way to prevent this? Don't use AIM. Get trillian or similar software.
