  1. See map inside.

Armadillo expansion into the United States appears to be limited primarily by temperature and rainfall. Armadillos have very little body fat, and are not good at conserving heat. Long periods of extremely cold weather are dangerous, especially to younger animals. Armadillos cannot establish stable colonies if the average January temperature is below -2°C (28°F). They also require a constant source of water. Estimates indicate that armadillos can survive in areas that receive at least 38 cm (15 inches) of precipitation annually. Comparing this information with annual weather and rainfall data for the United States, Taulman and Robbins generated a potential range map for the nine-banded armadillo. They estimate that the nine-banded armadillo could establish stable populations from Nebraska to New York, and northeast to Cape Cod. Although physiological barriers prevent the armadillo from moving farther west on its own, human introductions (accidental or otherwise) could establish populations in parts of Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. Animals released on the west coast could range from California to Washington and into parts of Canada. Regions of eastern Washington and Oregon, and part of northwest Idaho could also support armadillo populations. The published range of the armadillo in 1997 suggested that only about half of the potential armadillo habitat is currently colonized by the nine-banded armadillo. The map below illustrates the current range of the nine-banded armadillo (as of 1995), as well as the estimated potential future range.

  2. I know I haven't been on much as of lately. Spring is here and the wife has a million things planned. And I am putting on the final touches to my new fence. Replacing 104 foot of wire with wood picket fence. Boy, Am I tired of digging post holes. And nailing pickets

But as for going off line. All my parts are in, so I'm going to start rebuilding my PC. I'm going to a AMD 64, 3800 X2 dual-core setup. Have everything new. And ready to start. So I might be missing for a few days.

See you all when I'm done. :)

    Be good.

So just how many dilithium crystals do you figure you will need to run that puppy?? :P

As for the fencing you really need to try some of the 1/2 mile run's I have done (4 strand barbed) :glare:

See you when you get back.

  5. ... [politicians] sneak in user fees hoping the people don't consider them a tax, but we know better. ...

Oo-ooooo -- don't get me started on "user fees." Money that goes from my pocket to the government or government mandates are taxes and should be called what they are.

There's been a lot of talk about how much we spend on education but I don't believe they include all the fees students have to pay (books, equipment, lab fees, etc.). Over 60% of my property taxes goes to education yet you still have to pay more and more and more when the kids go to school.

... ahh, what's the use. As long as education is a government-run monopoly it'll be as efficient as any other government entity.

Not to mention some places have what they call "Pay to Play"

    Football

    Baseball

    Tennis

    Golf

    French,Spanish clubs

You name it,you gotta pay extra-extra to play

    TT75 I take it back,sorry

  7. No parking fee for high school here. Less than 400 kids with a license. Probably only 200 that can afford a car.

The strip between the sidewalk and curb must be mowed and raked by the homeowner but the trees are maintained by the city. No parking allowed on this space.

We have the second highest utility bills in the nation. My electric bill is $65 per month (budget). What makes me mad is that we have plenty of natural gas here in NY but most of it is purchased from Canada. The environmentalists don't want us drilling for the gas. The utility company charges us a high fee for the transmission of the gas.
