blim
Bubbabob, I completely agree with you and Will Smith about today's Rap (never heard that lyric before, brilliant!!) I kinda liked Rap when it first came out, it was either funny or inspirational. Nowadays.....and the videos that go with Rap? Hoo boy (blush!)I like all music from Medieval to Gospel to Beck. Easier to say what I don't like. Don't like the "screaming stuff", modern Rap or Country, with the exception of Johnny Cash, and Bluegrass. And Willie Nelson is magical Mood Music for fussy babies. Don't know why, but it works everytime.Liz

blim
Goman, yep, gotta love Beck.... I'm an embarrassment to my kids, but a hero to their friends, I love all the "new stuff"--Greenday, Yellowcard, 3 Doors, etc. I "grew up" in the Hair Band and Disco age (ick) and it's so nice to have some good music nowadays (Thank God for Punk and Alternative for bringing some fun and a melody back to modern music!)Here's something amusing that the "old younger members" already know, but the "new younger members" don't. My 72 year old mother absolutely loves Punk. Son introduced it to her at his High School Graduation Party (not an Open House as there were more kids than adults, as it should be, it was his party!!) and even ended up making her a CD. She says, "this is great, you can dance to this" (she grew up in the Swing age, great dancing music!) Her favorite band is New Found Glory. Liz

blim
Preston, your list reminded me to comment on the great Christian music nowadays. Years ago (Amy Grant and John Michael Talbot era) all "Modern Christian Music" was...well....boring!! It all sounded the same and was "pre-school-sing-songy". Early U2 tried to liven things up, but none of the other artists seemed to get the hint. Give me the old Hymms and Gospel over that stuff. Now there's Lifehouse and POD and the other great music thats on your list and Christian music is fun again. That merits a "Praise God"!!Boy, there are some impressive lists here!!Liz

tictoc5150
heh, can't let a music thread slip by without responding...copied and pasted from the 3/27/05 thread with a couple additions I've listened to alot of things over the years...everything from classic rock to jazz to country to classical to blues to hard rock/metal etc. etc. etc.. Since I learned how to play guitar listening to hard rock/metal (still play 23+ years later), that's pretty much what I still listen to, even at the age of 36...No, I'm not really listening to the same bands (well, maybe a couple), there's alot of talented kids out there these days and I've kept a pretty youthful ear...and yes, I listen to the screaming stuff too...lolFor the new stuff, lately my tastes are (in no particular order):Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin, A Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Sevendust, Soil, Black Label Society, Hoobastank, Incubus, Shinedown, Three Days Grace, Slipknot, Seether, Tool, Nickelback, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Dark New DayThat's nowhere near a complete list, just what I could think of off the top of my headfor the old stuff, I'd be a little too embarrassed to mention some of the 80's hair metal but I was into quite a few good bands back then and still listen to em' a bit....like: Van Halen, Ozzy, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, so on and so on Edited August 23, 2005 by tictoc5150
