Hi All!

I suppose this should go in the rant thread, but the cafe needed a bump, so *bump*! Hopefully it didn't tip over, I have a pretty big rear end.....and besides, I need a beer....

When does school start??!? Today my kids drove me crazy! Arguing over the one internet ready computer (no we haven't connected PG yet, it "fussed" and I wanted to make sure it wasn't the hard drive dying!), I got tired of hearing it, and went to town to run errands.

I came home and Son was attempting to connect it to the net using the disk from Charter, with no success, except p*ssing daughter off because he kicked her off the Dell...(he had to unplug the modem) After dinner, Son decided with 15 minutes until his Soccer practice to try to install the net again (after I showed him the Charter manual and he read it....!) Then he got mad when I told him he couldn't install the net until we installed the Firewall/AV and 15 minutes would not be enough time, considering it took 3 hours the first time the "trained tech" installed the net on the PG (ok, it was being fussy that day)....eye, yi, yi,yi, oy VEY......After Son got home from Soccer Practice, they fought over the telephone.....I finally "lost it" and then the dog got concerned (I'm "her pet human") and would not leave me alone, she wanted my lap.....When, oh when does school start????

If lawyers mime and can't talk, can they still lie? Ah, nevermind, they can......

Puts a new cushion on Sidekickcat's rocking chair.

:D:D:D Macmarauder, I use Duct Tape!!! Well, as a threat. When I am with Son's Morris Dance Team and they start to get mouthy or talk when they shouldn't, I take out the roll of tape...they know without me saying a word that they need to shut up!! :D Although, I think my kids are immune to the threat....!

Whats up with that? Maybe it's time *he* learned how to make a wrench fit in his hand.... I'd make him at least be your tool bubba for that job. See how he finds the time... (a trip to the library for a Chiltons to study wouldn't hurt either)

?? Who's clutch??

When my son wanted me to fix something on his car I would ask why are you not fixing it,he said I do not know how.

So I go out look over problem I ask where did you learn to not fix things like this??,he says auto shop in school(three years worth) :(

So I get needed tools hand them to him,hes like what??

I say your gonna fix it,I will tell you how.

New age fishing lesson

He can fix his own car now just fine..... B)

I love working on cars...almost as much as computers, but there are times that I still call my father up and ask "want me to bring the car by so you can take a look at the problem?" He ends up always replying, "What did you touch this time?" I usually have nothing to say back, then he hangs up...my dad is a trip sometimes...

But everyone here has a point...get his @$$ up to fix his own problem...it might need some supervision (this is where you come in), but the grunt should do the grunt work...the library is a great idea, even the internet, no problem is to difficult, except for laziness.

Don't know about cars, but "sometimes it's easier to do it yourself". I understand where Robroy is coming from :):) Although if my Dad made me do my own car work (if my car broke, my trick to get him to fix it was, "well, I'll just do it myself" and poof, he'd fix my car! Joys of being a girl and a klutz.), I would learn how to replace wiperblades instead of repairing them with rubberbands!!

So how's everyone? Whatcha been up to? Me, just pulling out crabgrass (my "emergency Roundup" is looking real tempting now, but need to feed the compost pile green stuff), doing laundry and enjoying the less humid weather.

What have I been up to?

Well been working some long days this past week or so. Yard work is slowing down some. Don't seem to be cutting the grass as often lately. Days are already getting shorter...*sigh*

Other than that.....not much else. (I know... ...boring... :( )

Looks over the trifocals at RV's avatar....where's Jimi?? Who's that?? I know about the shorter days, miss that daylight till 10pm....Pshaw, with the drought W.MI has had, we've cut the grass (or weeds) a total of 3 times--normally it's about once a week!! Still waiting for a ripe garden tomato.

well it's kinda technical but i'll give it a try. i've come up with a new new idea for a combustion engine. or well a borrowed idea. old steam engines have a ton of more power than most people think. this is mostly because they use basic cylinders and pistons similar to car engines. it pushes steam into the top of the cylinder pushing the piston down. then where it's different from a combustion engine is that it then pushes steam into the bottom of the cylinder under the piston head pushing it up. like a combustion engine when one is going up another is going down cause a shaft from the piston head connects to a spinning crank which connects to the next piston. so with this system you double your power. i am trying to design a new type of piston head and engine block that will allow this same system as a combustion engine. it means more gas used but double the efficiency and power. the biggest problem i have found out is that normally behind the piston head is the flow of engine oil which cools and lubricates the piston head. i am making a self lubricating piston head by holding a amount of high heat oil used in motorcycles to lubricate the piston rings. in a steam engine the steam it's self also lubricates since the pistons aren't all metal and are more of a rubber sometimes. but i'm still teaching myself steam engines from what i can find on the net. that's what that week or so of locking myself in the shop was for.

other than that......... no job, no girl friend, nothing interesting. ^_^ just the way i like it sometimes.

/me walks into Cafe.. been a while!

I hear that!

Good to see you're up to your usual self mac. Man Liz, I wish I didn't have to cut my grass like that.. then again.. I wouldn't want a drought... hmm, Ill have to ponder that.

I would be around more often, but I've been heavily working at GeeksToGo in HiJackThis training. Having fun there :)

What else.. uh, Just got back from band camp. That was it's usual adventure ^_^

The show we're doing this year is Tommy, by The Who. Probably one of the best albums of all time! *points at avatar*

I'll try to stop in the cafe more often

Hi Liz...

Well.... -_- ... Jimi H. is taking a holiday...said he needed a change. So I hired Jimmy Page for a while. Seems he has a problem keeping his shirt on though...

Ahhh.... you know how it is with these rock stars... <_<

Mac...

Thats interesting stuff you're doing there. Sounds like you have a pretty full agenda all right.. :)

Wow!! Folks are busy!

Macmarauder, it sounds like you are on to something with Steam Power. After all, it was the "preferred power" for a long, long time, it's efficient and a renewable source (if it ever rains!!) What's the saying, "everything old is new again"? Instead of rubber parts, think plastic, maybe?? Plastic can take higher temps, can't it?

Matt, you're a Band Geek? That's awesome!! What do you play? My guess is percussion or low brass, tell me if I'm right. :) And Tommy, how cool is that!! Son was a Band Geek, a drummer (he tells me he's not a percussionist because he refused to learn to read "real music"---took him 6 years not to learn to read music!!.) His girlfriend is a Color Guard Coach this year. They're doing "The Incredibles". Son checked in at Band Camp and I guess this year's Marching Band stinks...new director, an *gasp* orchestra teacher!!. Their band has placed in State Competition for the past 6 years, but maybe not this year....And why is Band Camp always the hottest week of the year?

RV, I'm kicking myself--that's what I get for looking at Jimmy Page's face instead of his lack of shirt  Hope Jimi has a good holiday!

macmarauder,

Have you thought about ceramics?

A chemical plant I used to work at was experimenting with a long fiber ceramic.

A lot stronger than short fiber.

Several companies were buying the stuff ($50,000 a barrel) to experiment with.

Can you imagine a ceramic engine?

Unlike metals, ceramics don't expand, or contract, with changes in temperatures.

Ceramic also don't melt in extremely high temps, which is the main limiting factor in increasing the power output of turbines.

Ceramics would also generate very little friction.

Just, food for thought.

What am I up to? Humm, enjoying the veggies from the garden. Stopped by a roadside stand and bought sweet corn. Grilled that and a zuchinni, sliced up cukes, maters, and onion in sour cream. (some jalapinos for the Brit) Ahh, a great summertime meal.

Great news, my Dimage5 broke a while back :( So I sent it off to Minolta for repairs. <_< Got the estimate back, sent off the $158 and then got a call from them... Seems it needed a lens body, and they had no idea how long it would take to get the part. Would I be interested in upgrading to a A200? This camera is 8.2 mega pixles, smaller, lighter, faster shutter speed, still in production, and has a few more features then your old one. For the price of the repairs you just paid for? :D Any guesses how long it took to decide?? Can't wait for it to get here...

i don't know. ceramics just doesn't seem strong enough. remember you are exploding a mixture of gas and air after all. so far the best idea that i've come up with is this. imagine a piston head with 2 piston rings. one at the very top and one at the very bottom. the bottom of the piston head is capped off just like the top. inside of the piston head is a reservoir of oil flowing through a intricate series of chambers with wholes in the chamber walls. these are filled with the high temp oil and flow out of the head to lubricate the piston rings. instead of any other car engine which only combusts gas one at a time i'm combusting one piston up and the exact opposite down at the same time. since they are all linked at the crank pushing the one up helps the one going down visa versa. hence theoretically double the power. :D

can you imagine it? a 600+ hp 4 cylinder motor, before the fancy racing parts, before turbos or nitrous oxide, a regular street car that can do a 8 second quarter mile run. ahhh it's nice to dream. i've already decided what to do when it reaches that level. i'm going to take an old ugly beat up rusted turd ford escort and put my beast engine in it and show these pros at the track my back end. i won't even remove the rust. the worse the car looks the better the look on their faces.

I think the terminalogy you are looking for is "sleeper." A beat up rust bucket of some sort with engine mods out the arse. I ran with a sleeper at one time, althought it wasn't rusty or beat up, it just didn't have the kits or sponsorship on the outside and had stock body parts rims, hoods, spoilers and such on the outside, but a 4-banger putting down 304whp and 288tq. I sold that and bought a car that started out at 237whp and 240lbs of torque, but threw in about $6 large to make it a little over 415whp and 450lbs of torque..

If you need any suggestions for trannys and such for your engine and maybe a rust bucket to put it in, holla at me...I am pretty proficient with motors and all the things that match up with it...fuel, trannies, mounts, calibrations, gauges...etc...you know the ticks and the tocks...LOL...

Alto Sax, Matt!! Well, you're low brass as far as I'm concerned, Son is always correcting me, but they're big, they're brass....so.....!! :) Besides Sax players think like low brass and percussionists, they belong in the same group (lovingly said, by the way, they make band fun!!)

Yea Bozodog about the camera!! What a great deal. And how nice to know how well Minolta stands behind their products! Now we'll be looking forward to more of those beautiful sunset pictures (there was a stunning one last night!)

Macmarauder, I didn't understand much of what you wrote, but get that rust-bucket-sleeper-car going and blow the rest of 'em off the tracks! I know you can do it. Just make sure the rust and holes don't cut down on how the air blows over the car.

I took my "nut with a walker" out to the doctor today---3 hours later I'm home. And we never left town. Oh, well, she finally decided she likes this doctor (doctor is a genius, she pulled up a chair and listened to every one of her bellyaches and didn't rush her), so hopefully she'll trust her now!! When I'm 81, I hope I'm not like my "nut"--she distrusts everyone. Arrrggghhh.

Its raining, hip hip hooray!! Except my plans to bathe the dog and vacuum the car are out the window. That's ok, we need the rain.
