hitest
Interesting. I never thought I'd see the day that Yahoo and Microsoft would be in business together. They're trying to take on Google. Go Google. What do you think about the deal?CNN Money
DigitalMan
Personally I think Google wins all, and will continue to be successful. No matter how large the company or how big the offer nothing is ever going to magically destroy the Google community. When someone needs to search for something they don't "query a database" or "Bing!" it they "Google it".
JDoors
Makes sense to me to have the number two and three companies in a particular area of tech combine to fight the overwhelming number one, but one of the many things Google does well is NOT standing still. It should be an interesting fight. I have no particular feelings toward Google -- I don't know why people do. IMO it's like Apple where fans overlook and downplay the negatives because, well, they're fans.
Matt
I guess the Yahoo Search box in firefox will soon switch to bing then. But since I only ever use the Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia searches.... it doesn't bother me

Google is a rather enigmatic entity that seems intent on controlling the solar system, much like the crew from Redmond. I do like the salad bar and eats that the employees at Google enjoy. MS and Yahoo have their work cut out for them!
Pete_C
For some things I actually prefer BING.I mean in google ; more often than not when I copy a link from a search it copies the full google referral code, something huge and long . But BING lets you just copy and paste the link.http://virgintech.org/2009/06/04/how-to-ad...soft-bing-tips/http://www.techhail.com/internet/microsoft...pera-chrome/331http://www.ghacks.net/2009/06/01/install-b...d-web-browsers/I like the "clear all " (as well as see all) option in your search history in BING too.Lets you know what you already searched for as well as wipe the list easily. The preview (you mouse to the right of the search result) is incredibly fast; much better than other previews I have seen tried. This is really helpful in determining if the search results are valid for you.Gotta go make blueberry pancakes.

Pete_C
I doubt that the Yahoo search will be replaced with a Bing search. More likely it is a matter of replacing the engine and servers. IE, you will still have a Yahoo search bar; and there will still be Yahoo search; but instead of using the engine they use now and returning the results and ads that they have now; it will use Bing engine and servers and put in ads from a shared pool. Likewise Bing will benefit from increasing ad revenue by including Yahoo ad customers in their search results.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/31/technolo...ml?_r=1&hpwYahoo has agreed to present Microsoft’s search engine, called Bing, to people surfing across its popular sites. Mcrosoft will pay for and control the costly underlying computing infrastructure needed to run the search technology, while letting Yahoo keep the vast majority of revenue produced by ads on the Yahoo sites.Yahoo will receive 88 percent of the revenue that comes from search ads sold on its sites.http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/151523,...earch-deal.aspxMicrosoft's Bing will now power Yahoo search, while Yahoo will use its solid relationship with advertisers to become the "salesforce' for both companies" search advertisers, the firm said."Advertisers will also benefit from scale and enjoy greater ease of use and efficiencies working with a single platform and sales team for premium advertisers," said Yahoo chief executive Carol Bartz.Yahoo will continue to own the user experience on Yahoo search with its brand name remaining, Bartz clarified, adding that the only visual change for web users will be at the bottom of the page, which will read "powered by Bing".So , Microsoft which has had a hard time attracting advertisers to its previous search engines will now get a share of the ad revenue taking advantage of Yahoo's relationships (partnerships) with Claria (formerly Gator/ Gain) and Red ClientApps two major advertising giants http://www.pcpitstop.com/gator/Yahoo.asphttp://biz.yahoo.com/ic/106/106214.htmloffers the user a personalized Web page and provides them with advertising and related content based on their search habits and Web browsing behavior. jcl
Likewise Bing will benefit from increasing ad revenue by including Yahoo ad customers in their search results. And the little "powered by Bing" at the bottom of every page. Every time you use Yahoo!, there'll be a little "Bing" in your peripheral vision. Bing. Bing. Bing. Bing.
JDoors
Actually, that idea has already been taken. http://younoodle.com - company predicts if a startup will succeed or not. Sorry to burst your bubble! B No burst bubbles here, I just didn't want to muck up my suggestion with exceptions, explanations and caveats (I actually started to type that info, thought better of it and backspaced over it). I never cared for Google, couldn't put into words why, I just don't. Mapping's good though. I REALLY never cared for Yahoo! They never managed to make a product that I didn't have to "think" about to use (ie., "What do I do next? What's this? Where's this?"). I never "used" MSLive except incidentally, and, like Yahoo!, it was unimpressive. However, I switch entirely to Bing (on a lark) and have had no regrets.

However, I switch entirely to Bing (on a lark) and have had no regrets.I prefer using Google as I've found the search engine to be very helpful with providing information for solving technical problems. Is my opinion backed up by empirical data? No. Just my preference. Each to his own. The one thing I like about Yahoo is their web mail. I still have a Yahoo mail account even though Gmail is my main e-mail client.Perhaps Yahoo's search engine should be re-branded...........Ying?!
