blim
Hiya, Marty!Spywareblaster is terrific, mainly because it acts like a spyware firewall, it keeps cooties from ever getting to your computer so you don't have to run scans to clean up the mess! And it's easy for "lazies" like me, you never have to run it, just update it occasionally.Malwareblaster is the new kid on the block. I ran into "Antivirus2008", ran Malwarebytes "quick scan", took not even 10 minutes and after finding a bunch of junk, my computer was back to being as stellar as ever. "They say" one is supposed to run a full scan afterwards, but the quick scan took care of the bugs so I haven't gotten around to doing the full scan *yet* (remember "lazy" ) Not a Geek (you know that!) but in my opinion, Spywareblaster and Malwarebytes is all one really needs!Liz Edited February 13, 2009 by blim

MrBill
What is in my Signature is what I have on ALL my PC's. I don't remember when I got the last cooty. The grandkids get on mainly 2 of them unless they are all over here. Then it is a free for all and I still don't have enough. They each have their own at their house and they have what I have. I have only had trouble with one of them as they had shut off AVG for some reason. They don't know why. It was a quick fix. All of them are like me and behind a router and use only Window's Firewall. flashh4
Hi martymas, here is what i have picked up doing HJT logs at MWR and WTT and other sites around.Avg has been known to report some false positive but so does others also.I use Avast which has been great for me along with hiding behind a router. Which is the best protection available.Malwarebytes is a super program for scanning your computer, i use mine about 2 times a week. But its not an Antivirus its a scanner, thats the free version, i cant speak for the paid version.Ok, enough from me.You Stay Safe over there from the fires Marty !!Chuck
Matt
Malwarebytes' Ant-Malware is really the best thing out there right now. It's fast and very powerful. We here at BestTechie even sponsor and host the application. You can download it directly here:http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exeIf you like it, I would highly suggest getting the paid version. It offers real-time protection, among other features. Worth the buy in my opinion.
Pete_C
From the free arena I find that Avast is the best all around protection . Very thorough and effective. I do suggest spywareblaster or spywareguard for additional immunization and for those who are truely paranoid threatfire for protection against emerging threats. isteve
If your os (XP or Vista) is up to date you can go to the start menu > run and type mrt. This will let you run a quick or deep scan of Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool. Not a preventative but will remove a lot of the popular badware's.

JDoors
You should go directly to the Adobe site to update to the absolutely latest version (manually; either type it in yourself or use a known good bookmark you already have, not by using a link on a random web page) as there are exploits that "trick" you into an update that actually leads to malware. That may be why updates were blocked in the first place.
