  1. WinME, as well as Win9x, should not be used to access the Internet. These older operating systems are insecure even with an added anti-virus and firewall. You would be better off teaching the kids to use Linux if you need an operating system that is cheap and the computer you are installing it on doesn't meet the specifications for WinXP.

  2. Go to Control Panel > System icon > Advanced system settings > Startup and recovery and uncheck Automatic restart. This should give you a blue screen with an error.

    Then go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools,> Event Viewer > System Logs and check both Application and System logs . Look for events that occur just prior to a reboot to see if there is a clue. You can copy and paste the events that are red here for someone to look at.

  3. Knowing your system specifications would help. The usual tips will help speed any Windows system. Clear your Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders by running Disk Cleanup and then defrag the hard drive. This is best done in Safe Mode. Also the more memory the system has can help multiple programs run at the same time.

    The problem with svchost.exe hogging the cpu could be malware related.
