  1. What is a quality company? Does it mean that a well established landscaping company isn't quality? I don't think any company should be allowed to test for drugs unless the employee showed up to work wasted or caused an accident that harmed themselves or another employee. I think that if you want to test welfare recipients then you must test all other individuals who receive compensation from the taxpayers. The taxpayers pay out more for government employees than we do welfare. I believe that we get much less out of the government employees than we do the welfare crowd.

  2. When researching the problem I noticed that motherboard failure was common on the MSI laptops. Many laptops seem to fail due to motherboards or graphics chips no matter what brand. Of course most laptop parts are made by a select few Asian manufacturers. I guess it should be expected with such cheap labor.

Both of my laptops are old IBM Thinkpad T42s bought off ebay used. They do what I need them to do and the price was right. Parts are cheap and easy to find plus working on them is quite simple. My 15" T42 even runs Windows 7 very well. They are selling newer T60/61s for less than $300 on ebay.

  3. I actually felt the earthquake here in NY. It was kind of scary! All is ok though, now I'm just getting ready to ride out this hurricane!

What a week for weather here in NY!

    B

Get those sand bags piled up around your computer gear.

  4. Keystrokes freezing may be the result of some program starting up to check for automatic updates or your AV program doing a quick scan. I have dealt with that on several systems and tend to ignore it.

Their are two lenses on a burner. The reading lens may have gone bad or is dirty.

  5. The sleeve or ball bearings are probably wearing out. Just buy a new fan the same size and replace it. It could also be speeding up due to a temperature rise in which case you may need to blow the dust out of the heatsink and/or replace the thermal compound between the processor and heatsink.

  6. Nice. I think you were very wise to pass on Vista. I run that at work and it is a dog. I still have one PC that has an XP Pro partition on it. I keep it around for itunes and for some legacy M$ games that my 8 year old likes to play.

If I bump the RAM up to 2GB I will be able to use XP Mode to allow me to run older programs. I also created three partitions. One is 15GB for either dual booting XP or some flavor of Linux.

  7. I scored a legal copy of Windows 7 Ultimate retail for doing a repair job. I ran the advisor on my trusty old home built desktop and both of my Thinkpad T42s. None were ideal candidates, but the 15" Thinkpad with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, SXGA+ screen, Atheros wifi card and 1.5GB of RAM was the better choice.

I slapped in a spare 100GB PATA drive, formatted it NTFS with my XP cd and installed Win 7 yesterday afternoon. I grabbed all updates from MS including SP1, installed MSE, SpywareBlaster, MBAM and other favorite programs. I also installed the System Updater from Lenovo for Win7. The best drivers for my graphics (even though AERO wasn't supposed to work it does quite well), sound and wifi came from MS Updates.

This laptop is flying compared to when it had XP installed. It will be hard using my old XP systems now and I can't wait for Windows 8.

  8. Quick dinner of two Hoffman Coneys with Gulden mustard and sweet relish on whole wheat hot dog buns. I just had to eat something the dietitian wouldn't approve of.

Hey Marsh, I can't use any type of salt due to it's high potassium and sodium levels. My anti-rejection drugs raise my potassium levels so I need to be careful and dialysis patients are to avoid additional sodium so the excess fluid can be removed properly..

  9. After sitting next to my desktop when the power supply's capacitors blew the PC gets shutdown when I am done using it. My printer was scorched and the paper in it caught fire from the sparks and flames out of the PSU.

When my PCs start slowing down it's time to run Disk Cleanup and defrag the drives. My computers don't normally get slow due to my cleaning the cache at the end of every day and defragging every 6 months as a habit. I haven't had any malware issues on my PCs since the 90s.
