  1. You are running two different anti-virus programs, Norton and AVG. One needs to go. Also Spyware Terminator is a crap program that used to be on Spyware Warrior's rouge list due to adware. Remove it.

To check your system for malware, read and do the following.

We no longer use HJT to resolve malware issues. Please read these directions and post the required logs in the correct section of the forums.

  2. The U.S. Postal Service is not broke. It is underfunded plus hampered by the Internet. There is no where in the rest of the world you can mail a first class letter, have it delivered in three days for the low price of $ .44. People have forgotten how to communicate with a well written letter. They have chosen to send short emails.

There would be no problems with Social Security if the previous administrations had not robbed he funds to shore up the general fund. The cap should have been raised quite some time ago.

Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac created their own demise due to manipulation of politicians on both sides of the aisle. They bribed, cajoled and even threaten to sue every politician that attempted to place new regulations on them. Wall Street greed aided the both of them in their endeavors.

$1 trillion per year for the War on Poverty? In 45 years $15.9 trillion has been spent for this program. I believe that comes out to a little over $353 billion per year, a tad short of $1 trillion. This is still a lot of money, but I wonder the cost to the country if these people were left homeless. I could foresee a much higher crime rate and medical costs. Many hospitals would have gone bankrupt due to providing health care without reimbursement for these people. The costs of crime would have required a much larger police force which would necessitate higher property taxes for their payroll, pension and medical insurance.

Medicaid & Medicare? Same as Social Security. The fund was robbed. Plus they were damaged further by companies moving their manufacturing overseas where slave wages are paid. Without jobs there are not enough workers to pay in to keep the funds solvent.

TARP funds are being paid back with interest. This right wing diatribe must have been written some time ago.

Cash for Clunkers? Those Japanese cars were manufactured here by American workers who otherwise would have been laid off. It was required that the vehicles sold got better mileage than the ones traded in. I say it's a good deal not sending as much money to OPEC.

The right is not right when it is wrong in so many ways.

  3. Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 review

    Bottom Line

Installing the free Microsoft Security Essentials will protect your system from malware—to a degree. But you'll get better protection from one of the other well-known free anti-malware products.

    Pros

Free. Small download. Clean, simple user interface. Starts working immediately.

    Cons

Poor protection against keyloggers, rootkits, and scareware. Just average protection against general malware. In testing, sometimes erroneously reported successful malware removal or blocking.

  4. Marty, you need to copy and paste the MBAM quarantine log here. It may have picked up on the files for MSE.

JDoors and anyone else using MSE do you think it's a good security solution? I do computer support for a school we have 50 Dell laptops that came with 4 years of MaFee protection. The 4 years is almost up and to save money I was thinking about using MSE. We have site license for a vendors version of symentec corporate but we would need to expand the license to cover the laptops. We get a lot of malware downloaded to these MaFee catches some and I have a few kids that run Malwarebytes monthly for me. Even with this I still need to re-image them once in a while.

It is not ready for the corporate or educational system world. Hell, it isn't ready enough for me to use.

  5. My niece, her husband and all three kids came down with it. I ordered them to stay clear of me seeing as the H1N1 shot wasn't widely available here and with my medical issues it would not have gone well if I caught it. They had a miserable couple of weeks as it passed from one to the other, but the storm was weathered and they are now fine. My niece is against vaccinations, believing that they cause autism. No matter how much data I sent her disproving that theory she remains steadfast in her belief.

  7. GATEWAY ESSEX MOTHERBOARD D845GRG, serial #'s 4000783, 4000828 (These are proprietary boards that use a special connector from the power button and etc. Look for a serial number on the board to match it.)

Click Scan Your PC at the right and see if it identifies the drivers.

Check the following to see if it matches your motherboard. You can click on the blue items such as Front panel connector to see the layout of the pins.

    4000828

Search for something similar to your board Front Panel Connectors

You could also use the following programs to help determine what your hardware is and what drivers are needed..

    Everest 2.20

    SIW

  8. What adjustment did you make with the power off? Make sure the Cmos pin is in the right location. When changing anything in the Bios make sure to Save & Exit (F10). Study the manuals to similar motherboards in that series for the LED connections. Some motherboards may be different revisions or proprietary setups for manufacturers such as Dell, HP/Compaq and etc. and would have a different pin layout.

The pin layout should be marked on the board with very small letters. Use a magnifying glass to look for them.
